Hey so bit of back ground I'm a massive petrol head! I also enjoy things like photography, cinematography and TH-cam. For instance I've watched every single vlogger, 'influencer' there is going. So not just a passing comment, but genuinely, what an outstanding production, use of camera angle, camera movement, different lenses, even the colour grading was great! But most importantly this guy, he's got it, he's infectious, and a real pleasure to watch. Top job my friend, just gained a sub!

Hey Jack, this was a fantastic video. Really well done. I watched it a couple months ago and actually purchased my MK5 because of it. Good job and keep it up with the great content!
So glad to have come across this video. Am in the market for a Golf (been driving a Proton Wira for the past 7-8 years, yikes) and you, sir, have got me sold on a Mk5 GTI.
Makes me so sad i sold mine and moved to a wrx. Tho I fell in love with wrx's first, the guy is right... mk5 gti was the perfect driving car in every aspect possible. Comfortable ride, plentiful tuning options for ludicrous power to weight ratio, handles twisty roads like a champ on proper suspension setup, never ever broke down, steering was insanely smooth, the smile was always there when I sat for my commute. (+slap a nice 3" high flow catted downpipe, blow off valve, and milltek cat back and the noises are a symphony to the ears. also a neck breaker) I miss it so much :'(
I love my MK5 and it's dual clutch (not for the purist i know but i'm quite lazy) is amazingly quick and only occasionally gets it wrong when not sure if it should be changing up or down a gear. Damn i brought mine three years ago and it wasn't 3000 quid (i wish it was) but having very low kms i was happy to pay twice that. I've only ever replaced the battery and tires and that neat feature that alerts you time to get a service is so handy. Be safe man.
About to be 26 and I love my gti. Never even of thought of owning a vw but when I test drove it to keep me busy why the dealer was looking for the keys to another car I was looking at I fell in love with it and I love it more and more everyday.
Summed up perfectly why I want this car! My mates think i'm mad for wanting a MK5 over some diesel BMW or Audi. It's called F U N. Also can't believe this is only your first video, so refreshing to watch!
I own a mk7 and I love it! I wasn't expecting too much when I stumbled upon this review, I mainly thought it was something nice to have in the background but you have lots of personality and I love this review.
I like your video, even if iam a BMW guy. Was in the same situation. And got a 330ci e46 with sharper cams and professional tuned ecu. Got a big trunk, rear seats, its rwd, its reliable with that 3 Litre I6 and looks cool in my opinion. Keep up the good work, really nice quality!
Good video, mate! I still have my 2-doors mkv gti bought new in 2007! I love this car so much! Now is 150,000 kms on the clock. Will plan to keep it to another 10 years.
This is genuinely the best video I have seen for a while and certainly the most perfect sum up of this car on the internet for me, thumbs up and subscribed! :)
I agree with everything you said about the MK5 Golf. I never had a Volkswagen and when I finally got one, it came in the form of a Mark 5 R32. I cannot think any other car will give me the experience that I get to enjoy on a daily basis. And because mine has the 4Motion AWD, it is great in the snow too! I love the MK5 and secretly wish I could add a MK7.5 to give the MK5 some company.
I bought a Type R EP3 Premier Edition for £3,200. 200bhp approx standard been modded a little. 0-60 approx 6.6secs. Naturally Aspirated VTec. Plenty of fun. Downside - Not the most civilized in stand still traffic at peak time..... but I think the FUN FACTOR of this car is.. ...a lot of fun try it

I owned one of these for a few years. Stage 1, downpipe, struts and springs, running around 230hp. 150k-180k miles I ended up burning my wallet. I believe I spent around $4000 in a year just to have it run. Endless misfires, cold start start misfires, electronic codes were also endless. I own an Abarth now. But I will say, the ride, handling, and amount of power was my favorite of any hot hatch I've ever been in. If money weren't an objective I would have kept this as long as I could. I just couldn't spend more time getting towed somewhere, spend a grand, then it still never running correctly. I checked oil regularly, changed cam follower every oil change, had over 4 well trained vw/audi mechanics, and it still wasn't enough. I'm not trying to hate on the car or anything, just putting up my experience with one. If you have questions or anything, feel free.
Mate best car review ever. Why? You spoke clear and fast about the brand. Like me you want a small, fast, reliable, and not so expensive car. Extra point for small car because i live in England and streets are quite slim so, small car with good agility its a must!
Bought my first Golf GTI for $3000. It was a 2001 VR6. Had it for a few years and loved it. Just bought a MK6 Golf R 4 door with 40,000 miles and it’s even better. Golf’s are a great all around car and the easiest to find in manual

I owned a MK5 GTi. Shortlisted cars were mustang(4 gen), celica (3 gen) and mini (3 gen) but the GTi won. Drove it for 150000kms before selling it at 260k. It was faster 0-60 than my friend's v8 ram. Few things I changed were brake pads, tyres , brake fluid and dsg fluid. If I were james bond this is what I would drive, a proper hitman :) Loved it.
Great video, our love lies with the Mk2 Valver, currently ABF’ing ours. It is good to see the Mk5 pays homage to the Mk1, seat patterns etc. Think we need to drive one 😎
Pretty good stuff! I have owned an MK2, 2 MK4's (they are not the worst!) I currently own a MK5 GTI, MK6 Golf R (heavily modded) and a 2015 S3 Prestige. The S3 is the best, but the GTI is still so much fun to drive!
@@JackScarlett1 I live in an apartment! Or as you folks call it a flat, rent two underground spots, the GTI and S3 live there now and the Golf R has been living at the performance shop for a few months.
Great video and I just subbed to it cos of such. I got my MKV GTI back in early 2013 when it wasn't even 4 years old yet (and it cost a lot more than yours back then :( ) but I am married to it now cos of the things you said on this video. They really are a great all round car and I will be keeping mine until one of us dies lol.
Agree with everything and I do like golf hence why I'm saving for a mk5 now but for 3k I think a very good choice would be a 2002civic type R just as quick and reliable, practical and not expensive to run, it might be older but if you look there around the same milage as a mk5 golf gti, great review
Type R is limited by the fact that it's not turbocharged. Stock for stock, the Type R is better, it handles brilliantly and although it has slightly less power, there's no latency with it as it's N/A. But because the GTI is turbocharged, it will respond better to cheap power modifications. Downpipe, exhaust, intake, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, hybrid turbo & tune will see the GTI around 370bhp. To see figures like that in an EP3, you're going to have to turbocharge it on top of the existing mods to the Golf. After that, you would have to build the engine on both cars to push it even further, as they're both near their factory limits. Simply put, you're adding in one extra step, just to stay on par with the Golf GTI, and that extra step is very expensive, which means the GTI is better bang for your buck.
@@shona5512 yeah but you can tubo a type r on stock internals, I would rather spend an extra few grand as turbo and vtec noise makes me have a crisis's

I got my MKV GTI back in early 2013 when it wasn't even 4 years old yet (and it cost a lot more than yours back then :( ) but I am married to it now cos of the things you said on this video. They really are a great all round car and I will be keeping mine until one of us dies lol.
I have a mk6 and it's awesome but damn I would like to have a sick 2 door mk5 someday. They just look so badass for some reason.
I have one of those! The same colour and everything. Such a pleasure to drive! I had it chipped though, and got about 250hp on a dyno.
Good job man keep up this kind of content
Great video buddy! 👍 Keep them coming
