Yeah, your spot on comment: "A lot of these JRock bands are eclectic and diverse". No fear in experimenting and surprise the listener. No lazy, no boring. All they are the best.
Fuki is like an actress playing a different role. This is a love story type of song. That’s why she sounds different and sings differently. Fuki has such diverse music pieces in her career. She (not UM) currently sings the opening for a super hero type of TV program for kids. You can bet she sounds different for that, right? Fuki is awesome vocalist regardless. 🤘
This sounds more like Fuki's solo releases. I bought one of her solo albums and have a solo Blu-ray as well. I haven't really gone through the full concert yet and just skipped through a couple of tracks on the Blu-ray, but the album itself is not really for me. It's well crafted though and she has the support of fantastic musicians (on both the album and Blu-ray), like with most of her projects. I am sure plenty of people will really like it. I believe Unlucky Morpheus wanted to go for a slightly different sound on this album (a little more soft) and come out with an other album last year that was heavier, but the heavier one didn't come to pass unfortunately (only the Shiren song they released). I personally prefer their heavier sound. Their latest album only has a couple of tracks I really like, the rest is a bit too power metal or poppy for me personally. But it's not like it's bad, just a taste thing, they are obviously still fantastic musicians whatever sound they are going for.
I have always had the feeling that Unlucky Morpheus did Amyrillis, because they could, which something they tend to do now and again like with Cadaver/Revadac. I've read so many comments on how they don't like Unlucky Morpheus, because they make Fuki sing the way she does, not realising that it's her choice to do it. So they did a song that's a J pop/rock song that Fuki does not sing the way she normaly does for them. They normally tend to do the not so normal metal songs on their Touhou songs, esp the last one.
This one would have been a better fit for one of Fuki's solo projects. For an Unlucky Morpheus song it's a bit meh. Still OK but not on the same level as their usual stuff, like everybody is holding back a lot.

Fuki goes full on kawaii and the drummer is wearing a tie, so song is looking for more main stream listeners. But it's UM and it's still good.
Fuki's vocals at first sound like a opening theme to a teenage anime.
Unlucky Morpheus have quite a few "poppy" songs in their catalog...they have released around 20 full-length albums since 2009!
Never thought I'd hear Fumiya playing a "disco"/"dance" beat. Cool! LOL

Feels like an anime opening.
The new evolution album is overall quite poppy except "The Black Death Mansion Murders"
