    I am from Porto and when I want to make a day tour with one of my bikes , this is one of my favourite lanscapes: A whole day filled with beautiful spots and marvelous roads, some of them I even never rode in life. Of couse you see GS's everywhere in Portugal, but for those kind of roads it isn't needed nothing more than 27hp from my Royal Enfield Classic 500; even my Moto Guzzi Breva 750 with 48hp is "too powerful" for these tasks.😆

    The N222 is indeed a gorgeous road. Good for you the rainy days were behind you.
    On one of my trips down there I made a point of finding the source of the Douro river, which is in Spain (there it's called Duero) 138km in a straight line south of Bilbao. Wonderful memories of weeks of fantastic riding.

    Another wonderful riding road. I have to agree, the standard of the food and drinks was marvellous, and at a price that made you eat more than you really needed lol. I too followed the Douro, but on the other side (N108), just as amazing, to Peso da Regua, then north on the N2. I have a feeling your 2 amazing bridges may be at that river crossing. Looks like a reverse trip may be needed to compare haha. Loving it as usual.

    Got to say that you guys keept a modest speed for that roads (yeah i know you´re right)
    Centre/ north is green and montain terrain, the south is more plain and dry (Serra do Caldeirao in Algarve is a great exception N2 ;) )
    Same bikers are promoting a North route (Rota do Norte) that is mainly that road N222 and the N103 that part of it runs in sight of Geres national park. Really good. And the main atraction, the N2 that you did part of it when you lost the footage and cross it in this video again.
    Can´t waint to see the rest.

    When I rode the Douro valley during grape harvest the aroma alone was bordering on intoxication. Unusual hazards too = puddles of juice & piles of grapes spilt from extremely decrepit, slow & overloaded pickups used to carry the harvest. They seemed to be everywhere & the local equivalent of our white vans.

A good excuse to escape the cold for a few weeks. And we drive on the left. You can hire a GS. Not a cheap adventure but an unforgettable one. Will be ordering it with 2 extra lanyards next week. Great safety kit- don't imagine it would be great 2-up though. This will be a great addition for this years riding which will include many twisty roads. Just wish it could be across the pond. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋‍♂️

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

    Love these tour videos Andy. Portugal looks beautiful., sadly never made it out there myself. Have you ever thought of doing an in depth video for people who might be thinking of doing these trips but never done anything like it before, to give a detailed idea of whats involved. Its quite daunting if your not an experienced traveller. Perhaps you already have. Just think it would be very useful & inspire people to take a deep breath, do something like this, & even move on to Noraly levels of adventure. Keep these up. Cheers!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes well what Noraly does is on another level of adventure - what we do is the easy stuff......but great suggestion,what sort of subjects should I cover do you think??...maybe guided tours versus unguided, kit to take, insurance, carrying your helmet on an aeroplane...anything else you can think of (not nough here for a full video I don't think - maybe a bonus one)????

    • @richhelm21
      @richhelm21 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMissendenFlyer Actually Andy, you've thought of some of the things i was going to suggest. Yes, all of the above, people that have done touring have the experience of organising it but don't tend to talk you through it on a 'Peter & Jane' level as its 2nd nature to them. If that makes sense. On top of your list how about what clothing to take, ie casual non bike gear plus all bike gear you might need, what paperwork you need to do, ie what to take license, paperwork for bike, visa for certain countries?, medical insurance, maps /sat nav, etc. Tackling tolls on routes. Dealing with language barriers etc. I appreciate you have covered some of this stuff in other travel videos, but a dedicated one would be so useful to novices. You might like to invite recommendations or advice from other viewers / travellers. If you have an anxiety disorder or stress, PTSD etc, what other people do every day without a second thought, can be extremely daunting. Have as much information up front would make it so much easier to attempt these things & experience travel that they would otherwise be too afraid to try. This is way more common than you may think. I speak to so many fellow bike riders that get out on a bike to help their MH & want to tour or travel abroad. Hope thats some food for thought.Cheers!

    I’m not a sweet tooth at all. That’s why I can’t eat Turkish baklava. I tried it once; it was so full of sugar that I couldn’t eat it all.
    My bike is from 2012 and I see no reason to change it for another; absolutely nothing wrong with it.
    Great views there in the mountains. When I’m touring, on average I do about 50-60 kilometers in one hour. You can’t drive fast on the smaller roads that I prefer and why should you want to drive fast when touring, there are traffic lights, you need a pause etc.

    I like N222 a lot, but mostly from Régua (bridges place) onwards, way too hot in peak summer though.
    Roads that start with N (nacional) are mostly very old roads, and that makes them fun for riding, but unfortunately they are barely used, has you can see by the low traffic, and so very little incentive to fix them, if you want to move you tend to avoid N roads in favour of "IC" "IP" highway's and so on, but those tend to not be scenic

      @@TheMissendenFlyerI’m in Lisbon now, and I’d like to come back and ride around the countryside. I’m afraid riding there in June would be too hot, not mentioning July and August.

    It really is a fun video. I was catching up with your channel and was surprised to find you in Portugal. Enjoy.
