    Here for Motty's legendary commentary....RIP John! Fabulous goal I've watched countless times, but just seeing the joy of the fans....what dreams are made off....I was one year old at the time!

    Goalscorer Ronnie Radford passed away back in November last year and now commentator John Motson passed away today.
    This match was Motson's big break to becoming the recognisable voice of English football.
    RIP to both legends of an unforgettable FA Cup moment.

      You said it, mate- was telling my nephew about it in light of Maidstone's win against Ipswich. I can remember EXACTLY where I was when I saw I: eight years old in a Wiltshire prep school. I love everything about this clip: the state of the pitch, the transfer fee (£300!), Ronnie Radford, the great Malcolm McDonald, the kids in their snorkel parkas... Truly moving.

    When clueless pundits refer to 'the magic of the FA Cup' this is what they mean. Arguably the greatest ever FA cup tie - it had it all. David v Goliath, a pitch fit for cattle, fans up trees and on pylons, the epic Ronnie Radford equaliser and the early heroics of goalkeeper Fred Potter, who kept Hereford in the game... AND the priceless 'Macdonald is a fairy' chant.

    • @NYJALB
      @NYJALB 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +tigerarmyrule It annoys the beJesus out of me when sides like West Ham, Newcastle, Stoke etc etc put a weakened side out because they want to save the players for the P.L.........ask the fans if they want to take the Cup seriously or not!...And more importantly, if you are going to field a Micky Mouse side, don't ask the fans to pay to watch it.........I think perhaps it is a generation gap thing though tiger......not sure how old you are, but I'm 55 and I still love the FA Cup, but I think the younger generation are Champions League obsessed, which ironically, despite me celebrating like a mad man when we won it in 2012, I am totally unimpressed with..again, probably a generation gap thing but I still believe it should be contested by League Champions and the holders ONLY!!!

    • @tigerarmyrule
      @tigerarmyrule 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NYJALB I totally agree with you. I'm 50, slightly younger than you but essentially the same generation and I remember those absolutely huge 1970s cup seasons when it seemed every ground was packed in every round and winning the cup was a dream come true for everyone from chairman to youngest fan. I'm an Everton fans, 1984 cup was huge. we were back in the big time and Evertonians everywhere felt liberated from failure and the red shadow........If they ban replays then its time for true fans to simply turn their back and allow the great old competition die a death. By the way you are also right about the CL. It should be champions only and knock out but the money men would scream at lost TV revenue in Asia !!!
