Nobody had any hope that 1988 was going to be a particularly good team in 1988, they won 67 games in 1987. Outside Cal and Eddie that early 80s core was gone. Of course no one thought they'd be a dozen games worse in 88
The 2021 Orioles came close to breaking that streak in franchise history even though they didn't start out the same way the 1988 team did. The next year, they were in playoff contention until the very end just like the 1989 team did, better known as the Why Not Year.
There was no promise entering 1988. Many previews expected them to lose 100 games. They had Murray and Ripken who started slowly. But they had four guys in the lineup or more each night who couldn't hit. Ken Gerhart, Jeff Stone, Billy Ripken, Jim Traber, Rene Gonzalez...they had nothing coming up through their system. Just think from 2018-21 they had 3 teams worse than this in 4 seasons with the 4th season being covid.
1988 was a long time ago don't be comparing bad teams of 2024 to the 1988 Orioles it was a different era they did rally to finish 54-107 for the season 😂
Definitely a long time ago. You are right 54 wins that year was a miracle after that start so they did rally to a certain extent. Thank you for the comment!
Well, this is something. A streak that will never happen again. The Orioles in '88 were different from previous seasons. It wasn't the team led by Weaver. The rotation wasn't there. Palmer retired. Ripken was the franchise face. Murray was right behind him in offensive terms. The team left much to be desired heading into the season.
Gregg Olsen didn’t play for the mlb team during the streak, he wasn’t called up until September that season
The videos that you have used span 1983-1988.Earl Weaver, Storm Davis, Rick Dempsey, Jim Palmer were not on the 1988 squad
The year I became an Orioles fan, this streak happened.
Life is grand.
You are a true fan!
This AI narration is awful

An amazing turnaround!

I had a friend who was a died orioles fan and he actually cried when the o's ended there losing streak.
this was the Orioles in BC(before Camden)
Exactly. Old Memorial Stadium. Now they have a gem...arguably the best stadium in the big leagues. Thank you for the comment!
@@BBUYTTV the best stadium I agree
@@BBUYTTV 33rd Street was the best.
Well at least my white Sox have won a game not saying much though
Ha! That keeps them safe for this year! Thank you for the comment!
That was even in the news.

We should be comparing the 1988 team with the 2021 team.
At least the 1988 O's won 54 games. The 1962 Mets only won 40. 😂
It’s a minor miracle they were able to win that many after that start. If not they may have challenged the Mets
White Sox weren't wearing the black unis in 88 not til 92 I believe
Cal never missed a game
Maybe a day off shakes things up.
Steady as a rock
Orioles with losing streak
It was in Chicago that they won.
As a White Sox fan, I'm not shocked they ended their streak against my team. Lol. White Sox always find ways to make history but in bad ways. 🙄
@@Jay7682 it was a rough year for your team for sure!

I know Orioles fans for sure hope it never happens again. Thank you for the comment!
A streak that will never happen again? You're pretty naive, give it enough time and it WILL happen again.
It almost happened in 2021, just didn't start the season almost the same way.
We tried to match it in 2021. Orioles lost 19 in a row in 2021
Well, at the rate things are going, the 2024 White Sox are easily bypassing the streak of the '88 Orioles.
@@dbisamazing84 it looks that way. What a terrible season!
@@BBUYTTV Not sure what it's gonna take for them to snap out of it. Be interesting to see how they fare against the As this week.
