I grew up in SoCal too. Would you be surprised to learn everything we knew as San Bernadino has changed to San Bernardino? The mountains, freeway signs, city, county, everything mysteriously changed without warning sometime after 2015. All my friends are shocked! This song is one of the few pieces of residual evidences I can find.

Фестиваль эстрадной песни в Сопоте, не помню какой год., был пацаном. В союзе запрет на зарубеж. По окончании концерта на сцену вышли три музыканта, длинные волосы в майках со звездами. Первые ряды как ветром сдуло настолько мощным был звук. Это была первая встреча с группой. Три исполненных песни остались в памяти на всю жизнь.. Браво Кристи🔥👍

The members of the English band Christie admitted after the song was released and became a hit that they had never been to the city of San Bernardino. I read that when the song was written they didn't know that the city was spelled with an 'r' in the second syllable, and they unknowingly misspelled it - you can tell that they say it right when they sing it. Back in those days San Berdoo was a town that many rock stars played at a concert venue called the Swing Auditorium - lots of great acts played there including Led Zeppelin. Jimi Hendrix, CCR, Santana, Black Sabbath, Elvis and Sinatra and many others including Merle Haggard (the last and final artist to ever play at the Swing a day before it was destroyed by an airplane crash in 1982!) and long before that Hank Williams (Sr!), Lefty Frizzell, Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Bing Crosby & Bob Hope and many others played there in the 40's and 50's. I remember driving 60 miles one way to San Berdoo in 1985 just to get an IN-N-OUT Burger and fries because that was the one off the Tennessee Ave offramp of the 10 freeway was the closest INO location from my home at the time! I also drove out to SB many times to shop at Harris's Store for great clothes and Lier's Music for music supplies (guitar strings and cords etc!) and lots of visits to the Orange Show grounds (where the Swing was located!) on weekends where there was an awesome swap meet on Sat & Sun. Lots of other occasions to go there like eating steak at Stuart Anderson's. I always liked this song! California city and town name songs are very cool too me. Buck Owens did one simply called 'Bakersfield' (and of course there's Homer Joy's song 'Streets of Bakersfield' 1st recorded by Homer, then by Buck, then by Buck & Dwight Yoakam), Robert Plant did one called '29 Palms', and lots of songs about San Francisco, Los Angeles (my favorite is an un-released song by Jody Reynolds called 'Streets Of L.A." recorded in 1985 for a made for TV movie that never happened), and many others. Too bad CA is such a sh*thole now!

German radio and TV would have been responsible for my infatuation with this and other bands. Yellow River must have been a phenomenon hit, as I recall it being played over and over on radio. My classmates loved it too.

German radio and TV would have been responsible for my infatuation with this and other bands. Yellow River must have been a phenomenon hit, as I recall it being played over and over on radio. My classmates loved it too.
