      @@ReachStudioPro For me, I loved that they listened to feedback, but Octopath still felt like a downgrade from Bravely Second, their prior work, which felt like a downgrade from the original Default. This however felt like a somewhat better Octopath from the start which had me cautiously optimistic. Now however with this update, I’m confident it’ll surpass Bravely Second. Whether or not it’ll tie or surpass Bravely Default, and possibly (what I see as the best JRPG that’s nearly tied with Bravely Default) Final Fantasy 6, is yet to be seen.

      I don't necessarily agree. It's an interesting use for a demo, sure, but a demo's primary function is for the players who wish to try a game before purchasing. Demos should be designed with that in mind. This is more specifically a demo to gather feedback from players, and did not represent the full game.

      I think that the turn order at the top of the screen wouldn't work specifically because of how the turn order is decided in the first place, and they way that it's altered. Attacks that delay a turn will deplete the meter, having higher speed will mean more turns, ect. I'm having a hard time explaining it unfortunately, but I hope this helps a little bit. Essentially what I'm trying to say is that combat isn't round-based.

  • @slashedleaf
    @slashedleaf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I'm concerned that they did not address the major problem of actions being completely lost when you queue them without having BP.
    In Bravely Default/Second, you could queue whatever moves you want even if you don't have the BP, and the character would attempt to use the moves, and fail only if they don't have BP at the time of use. If they recovered BP from something like a dancer in the meantime, the move would then work.
    In fact I really hate that they've doubled down on the action meter mechanic, the battle system loses a lot of interesting strategies that can only be done by selecting your entire team's actions for the turn all at once.

    It´s really nice to see that they took the feedback to heart and tried to improve the game but to be honest, the battle turn order still worries me. The "action bar" and exclamation mark does help but it might no fix the problem with the way turn order is decided in battle.
    Like, I remember from the demo how some of the faster enemies could attack one of my characters, only for the same enemy to attack again before I even get the chance to select a action (and I´m not taking about the enemy using Brave, just that they got their turn back really fast). This meant that the speed stat was OP, since you could get multiple chances to attack the enemies before they could act, and the reverse was also true. In the demo I would constantly find myself using brave to defeat the enemies as fast as possible since by the time my characters got their turn (especially the slower tanks), they had already gotten attacked several times without me being able to select default (defend).
    In the previous games you chose all of your characters actions at the start and the default command had priority, unlike the BD2 demo. I cannot help but feel that this "real time action bar" thing will limit your options to speedy jobs since slower jobs will get less opportunities to act. Hopefully my worries are in vain and the final game still has similar depth as the previous two games.

  • @darienb1127
    @darienb1127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    So, my biggest concern about this game is how it functions compared to the 3ds games. In those games, you chose everyone's actions first, and THEN then turns happened. This worked really well with the Bravely and Defualt system. Now when you choose an action, it's instantaneous, more akin to something like Octopath Traveler (which this studio also made.) This changes how the games works from the rest from the series, and with how brutally difficult the demo was, i couldn't get a good feeling for it. This still leaves me a bit skeptical, especially since i didn't like Ocotpath all that much (combat was fun, but it was too grindy and repetitive for me), but i'll still have hope this new battle system works.
    Edit: also, they have a Gambler class and a class that appers to be an artist! i have no idea what it does, but imma use it when i get it.

      That was one of my biggest issues as well. In the 3DS games, being able to review your turns was so important. Turn gauges are useful but the turn order still made no sense in the demo. Sometimes one character can move 2 or 3 times before another, and sometimes bosses can move multiple times in a row and get rid of their debuffs instantly.
      I also hate that none of the abilities have descriptions in-battle, like you're supposed to have absolutely everything memorized. Or that weapons in shops don't show your actual stats, only what they would change to. Sucks they didn't address either of these.

    • @JuicedLeaf

      Think the issue with the old system is it made defaulting way, way too safe. 90% of the time the best course of action when you weren’t quad braving was to default.

    Yoooo, I’m so hype for this game! It’s old school FF at its best. A lot of people still don’t even realize that BD is technically an OG Final Fantasy spinoff. This isn’t some indie bois, it’s a full on GOTY contender and a lot of cats are sleeping on it. Also, in case you missed the first 2 on the 3DS, if you had game data saved in your memory from the demo, you were rewarded in the retail version with bonus gear and items. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do something like that here. So if you haven’t already, go get the demo now and have fun getting wrecked by that damn sandworm.

    I'm very happy to see a lot of the things I struggled with in the demo got addressed and fixed in this feedback vid, I was able to finish the demo but I really didn't want the whole game to be like what I experienced. I greatly appreciate that our words were taken into consideration and didn't fall on deaf ears, I wish more developers did this. One thing I'll say is I did personally like it better that you could input all your party members commands before the round of battle started, like in Bravely Default & Bravely Second, instead of you only inputting on a party member's individual turn. Other than that I love all the changes made and am even more so pumped to play this 😁.

    difficulty and controls were the notable dislikes?
    yeah... but also the fact that customization was completely removed... why were enemies added to the overworld?
    i preferred random encounters, because in the last TWO games, we could customize the encounter rate, we could fight as often or as little, or even not at all, if we wanted to... that is no longer an option.
    not only that, but due to the changes made to how the battle system works now... it just doesn't even feel like a bravely game, anymore... everything i loved about the other two games is gone. :(
    it's sad that all of those complaints were just brushed off and completely ignored... because of that, i can't buy this.

      The ATB thing is what tripped me the most, but I'm unclear if you input commands for each character when their gauge is filled up or if it's just an indicator of when the command you input will be executed relatively to your other characters.
      I for some reason wrongly recalled the encounter rate adjustment as a difficulty slider, but yeah now that enemies are visible on the map, the gauge doesn't make sense...
      Alternatively, in games with random encounters I've always thought of enemies actually roaming around but being invisible, so I could probably live up with this one change.

      I mean there’s no point to having the same formula. Just because it’s a bravely default game DOESNT mean it’s supposed to be the same as the other two entries. Honestly, just because u had these complaints didn’t mean every one else had the same complaints and I’m sad u feel this way but the truth is they did fix a lot of the stuff the MAJORITY was complaining about not the minority. All games as more entries are added change in terms of battle system, they never stay the exact same. Take for instance Pokémon and dynamitizing, final fantasy 3 vs final fantasy 10 vs final fantasy 14. Final fantasy games are known to be different with each entry, some with completely different battle systems and overhauls. But idk that’s just my opinion

      im willing to give this a try now that they made it a bit more easy to tell who acts when, but i agree. what i loved about the past 2 entries was organizing an entire turn all at once, and seeing it go well, or not. with the demo, i found myself not even able to utilize the brave and default functions as well because everyone acts at different times at once and defaulting feels very awkward. im disappointed, but as a fan of the series im willing to give this a try, if not only to see the series continue and finally get a sequel to third that ive been thirsting for years
