Young was 37 here and running like that.. geeez O_o
Namekian Pepper Sauce not sure why people are surprised..quarter backs don't even exercise lol
Roided
abc xyz
*excuses*
Namekian Pepper Sauce great athlete
Honestly the way Young played at 37 in that era, makes Tom doing what he's doing at 40 seem like nothing that special.
Steve Young is one of the most entertaining quarterbacks to watch when he scrambled. It was like watching an action movie, where the hero gets out barely alive.
Glad he got traded from Tampa Bay back then. How/why they ever have him up is still a mystery to me.
Great anology
True and funny. Good one
Lol that made me laugh because it was so true.
Steve Young never seems to be mentioned when talking about the top all time quarterbacks but he was a ridiculously talented player.
Steve Young didn’t start for the 49ers until he was about 30 & STILL made the hall of fame & won two MVPs. As soon as his career ended the 49ers immediately went from a contender to look like an expansion team. That shows you how damn good he was.
Who are you talking to that Steve Young doesn't get considered? That's what I want to know, he's definitely in that conversation.
@@andrewjamshidi1549 exactly. They were 12-4 in 98 & were oh so close to making it to the NFC title game. Then they start the 99 season 3-1 with Young starting, then go on to lose 11 of the next 12 when he went down.
@Brandon Ohara And tough and elusive, he was hard to tackle in the open field. Russel Wilson is a Steve Young type QB imo.
ya if he had started early in his career they probably would mention him. but montana was a beast lead them to 4 of those superbowls
"PLAYOFFS?!?!" 🤣 gets me every time
Must be a panthers thing
Steve Young was amazing.
A legend to replace a legend is rare indeed.
He's my all time favorite QB. Greatest of all time IMO.
Potatoe Flute Whats your point? Dan Marino has no ring so he's among the worse quarterbacks of all time. See how stupid that sounds?
Devilz DandruFF ikr best BYU qb ever and he was great on 49ers
Edgy Memelord I would definitely say Steve had the best NFL career from BYU, but I would personally take either Jim McMahon or Ty Detmer. Sarkisian was pretty good too. Hard to argue against Young though. He's my favorite all-time NFL player.
Steve Young...best dual threat QB ever!! He was deadly accurate with the deep pass and could scramble out of anything!!
B L if only Vick had taken his career seriously in the beginning. Had he perfected reading defenses and mastered the mechanics he could’ve been a top 3 all time. But no doubt Young was the best dual threat ever.
Montana Elway game was pretty amazing.
Have 98 Young vs today's LB and CB, he'll run them over wit his size
Big RazO look at the first clip. the man was running straight up and was barely touched when running into 4 defenders. in today’s game, he would be left with a concussion or some broken ribs. young is definitely overrated and wouldn’t run anyone over. his form would leave him with injuries all season long
You know where I like it... i’m saying he is over rated because a lot of people still believe that he could do better than players in today’s era which is false. how much more do you need me to dumb it down for you “idiot”. if you put him in the game today he would be an average dual threat QB, but he could never be the all-time great people put him out to be. you put a lot of QBs from this era back in his years and they would excel. and if you think running someone over is defined as jogging around a stand up defender trying to arm tackle, you need help.
"I just hope we can win a game!" That's how I feel as a 49ers fan right now.
Joseph Nguyen me too my friend. Building towards the future I guess. Kyle and John are the real deal though.
Joseph Nguyen I have you winning this week agasint the colts. I hope you do lol I'm a titans fan :) hate the colts
Ser Josh do you know who Steve McNair is and Vince Young
Some person Here yeah of course
Ser Josh Who's your favorite out of all quarterbacks that played for the titans/oilers I would say Warren Moon
The NFL should release this whole game. We know they have every game ever dating back like 50 years.
They got games from the 1940s
The NFL Network played this entire game several years back. I had it saved on my DVR for a long time and watched it several times. Great game
They do have this game in its entirely. Just type in the teams name the year and full length game and it'll come out
@@leogetz3570 1998 dude
@@bryggreen77 Yes.... Not sure what I was thinking when I typed my comment!!
Dam in Today's game if some rookie went 6tds-14ints they will be a bust. Good job peyton for your bounce back career
Dom B
I was just thinking that. Stupid ass media nowadays would’ve been all over Peyton crowning him a bust and the Colts would’ve drafted another QB in the next draft.
Sometimes you just have to let players develop. If Jim Caldwell was on the staff sooner, PMs int number would be a lot smaller
Dom B the internet has ruined our ability to be patient
Facts
People are saying dak Prescott is a bust and he has 9 tds (1 rush) to 3 interceptions
Jesus, this game was stacked with talent
Seven Hall Of Famers in this game - Manning, Young, Faulk, Harrison, Rice, Owens, and Doleman
Watch your Mouth!
Now EIGHT Hall of Famers with Bryant Young.
@@STP43FAN1 glad you came back to update this lol! And that’s not to mention the other “hall of very good” players that Elliot talked about. + Tarik Glenn (offensive tackle) who is in the Colts ring of honor.
That team is why I’m a 9ers fan to this day. We are coming back too! Go Jimmy G!
Niners might be in the super bowl 2020. 👍🏼
No, no they will not.. 12s btw.
Dang reading this today and jimmy g is one game away from a super bowl!
Go niners by Jimmy ain't the guy
@@determineddad7935 but your mom said he was the guy though. Oh she must have meant something totally different. 😉
Man, I miss the old Niners jerseys
Even when Steve Young was in his 30s he could still move
My first ever attended NFL game... so crazy to look back at it now with 2 hall of famers as QBs
That 1998 49ers team was one of my favorites 49er teams, there were no holes on offense and their D was pretty solid. I really think had Garrison Hearst not grotesquely broke his ankle early in the NFC championship game they could have played in the Super Bowl and probably won it. Feels like yesterday.
jon Q it was the divisional round and they'd have to beat the Vikings.
no the Vikings would a embarrassed them.
bgpeters22
This game will always be the best game ever and I can't wait to see my brother play this game will always love this
Forgot which round that was... thanks peters, it's been a whilte. Packersfan The Vikings? Did they win the Super Bowl that year or did they lose to the Falcons too? That's right. You're just salty about the Catch II.
No i got over it. They are more to life than football. I'm not salty
Young was a naturally athletic, smooth lefty that won. His stroke could really thread the needle.
this game was better than the entire 2016 nfl playoffs
Golden Tate #15hunnit #Goat #ONEPRIDE lol no. Ur just mad u put up a whole 6 points
Nick Green im not talking about one single game, im talking about the WHOLE playoffs.
Golden Tate #15hunnit #Goat #ONEPRIDE especially the cowgirls being ass as usual
Golden Tate #15hunnit #Goat #ONEPRIDE hold tho L did you not watch dallas play anything with dallas in it is number 1.
Tom Brady Shady #WOAT#MaddenCursed#SystemQuartback lol what
Lol Darnell Walker. I remember the 49ers' corners that year were 5'8 and 5'7.
Legends:
Colts: Manning, Faulk, Harrison
49ers: Young, Rice, Owens
english iranian Um for 49ers weres Joe Montana
Give me a Boneless Pizza we're talking about playing in this game...
english iranian what about Joe Montana
Montana wasn't with them by that time.
U forgot Mike VangerJact bruhhh haha
Steve young was so much fun to watch.
Friend of mine once said his favorite game was when a herd of GOATS played a football game...when I said where? A magical mystical place he called it, Candlestick....now I know which game he was talking about.
Wow. Steve Young was bad ass. Scrambling that good at 37.
These gems are great. Fantastic stories, good primers to give context and concise recaps. Keep em coming!
games like these back then wss very fun to watch.
grow up watching the 49ers during 1992 and watching steve young play, man it one of the reason why like football.
i believe when 49ers was losing bad in the 1st half, steve young never give up, even if the game ended, he always play his best.
And now Brady beat Mahomes in an absolute classic, 43-40.
Then follow up with another stunner, the 37-31 AFC Championship Game.
Yes and yes! One day this type of vid will be remember when mahomes took on the goat? Hopefully by then Pat will have several rings working on many more. He could be the closest to get to Tom. He will also remember his 2 losses to the goat too. Probably serve as motivation to winning in future. Awesome games....
@@STP43FAN1 Stunner? More like a joke. How do you let a coin flip determine the outcome of the game.. its a joke.
No. Your opinions are a joke. The Patriots won fair & square
@@STP43FAN1 yeah okay according to who you a Patriots fan.
The good old days, too bad they old😢
49ers_red_and_gold question I was born in 98' what were they saying about Manning bc of those interceptions lol through 6 games
Thankfully, we got Jimmy Gsus now. Back to being dominate!
I guess I am one of the lucky few. I actually witnessed a game winning TD from Joe Montana to John Taylor. Then watched the 49ers destroyed Denver the following year. It was a heart break when Roger Craig fumbled against the Giants, otherwise the 49ers would try a three-peat
In the old days we used verbs in sentences too
49ers_red_and_gold 49ers are killing it this year. It may be their year in the Super Bowl again. 👌🏼
This was great storytelling. Bravo!
I remember this game like it was yesterday, I was still in high school...a great game, Young vs A young Manning, a good win for my team my team 49ers
Colts should go back to the blue facemask.
Agreed. And the 49ers should also bring back their red facemask. I can't stand teams wearing gray facemask and don't even have a single gray on their uniforms 😩...the NFL really need to have teams to ban them. The Cowgirls and Raiders are the ONLY teams should be wearing gray facemask due to their team colors. NFL doesn't understand color coordination 😠
Thank you!!!! Finally someone else other than me misses the blue facemask. There was a year or two, maybe '94 and '95 where they had blue pants for away games wearing white jerseys. Always thought that was a good look as well
I loved the older 49ers uniforms
Fr
Central District Steelers should have a gold one
Hell of a battle
Omg didn't realize how much young and Wilson have same pocket passing n running abilitys it's amazing! Go hawks!💪
I WAS THERE!! GREAT GAME! INCREDIBLY LOUD! Only NFL game I’ve ever been to and it’s a classic. Very lucky and was an amazing experience.
I'll never forget reluctantly watching this game. Being a Colts fan and waiting for Manning to have a break out game, I had no clue it would be this game. I thought the Niners would slaughter the Colts. Me and my buddies were screaming and dancing all through the first quarter and a half......well, then, Steve Young........nuff said.
Steve Young could probably still outrun Peyton at that age
Heck, Steve Young could probably outrun my school track team at that age. Peyton would be no problem.
@@yetz2291 I'm sure young could still outrun manning even today. Manning never had legs
LOL Steve Young's corpse could outrun Peyton Manning. Not even a discussion to be had there.
This is the first game I really remember following on an internet game tracker cause I was out of state and there was no local broadcast.
Love the vid, awesome way to end it! Well done.
I swear if vanderchoke wasn't peytons kicker those early years peyton would have won a lot more.
He was the most accurate kicker in NFL history at the time, most of the losses were either on Peyton or the defense
Tbh peytons rookie year was trash.
Peyton threw over 20 interceptions his rookie year
andromeda gen lol. Most accurate kicker of all time until it mattered lol. My cowboys gave him like 3 million bucks to miss several kicks then cut him.
Kyle Adrien 28 lol
Football just isn't the same anymore 😞
Valo P. It's better
@@bigty390 uhhh no! Early 2000's was the last time Football was great, it is good today but man I miss the days where the QB was actually allowed to be hit
True. I even miss the announcers then late 60s til then. Not bad now. But it was the Best of times.
@@bigty390 lmao NFL is trash now compared to this era ya fool
What a great piece of content you have here. Much appreciated
he was so much fun to watch. joe made me a niner fan but damn steve was an exciting player
Steve young Goat 🐐
yeah Young goat
Drewbert 420 I don’t know if he’s the greatest. But he’s in a group of Qbs that whoever you pick for a given game you can’t go wrong. And btw I’d take young over Brady. Young had drew brees accuracy and maybe more, could scramble and run like an old school RB, smart as anyone and played like an angry football fan wished he could if he could get in the game. Too bad the great ones eventually retire…
videos like this are the reason I'm a subscriber. wish ESPN had old videos like this but it feel like they're too stingy with their old clips lol. or either they dont own the right and are unable to show them! who knows?
On this day back in 1998 I was an 11 year old life long 49er fan watching this game with my dad. I remember us both looking at each other after the game ended and we were both very impressed by young Peyton's performance and we both said this Manning kid is probably going to be a good quarterback one day. Boy were we right.
Yeah and best of his era steve my man Young forever young heart to big for the league he retired I cried......
Damn I feel old listening to that draft class. I remember when all those guys got drafted now they are all out of the league lol
remember the Colts defense' was reaaaallly bad when Manning was drafted
As a kid growing up, Steve Young was an inspiration to me. He's a lefty, is fast as hell, a good person, and a great QB. He left so much of an impact on me as a kid.
You should read his autobiography, very interesting, super smart and moral guy.
Very awesome vid! Well done thanks
Assassins Creed Syndicate music in the beginning. Awesome
you know what it's called?
You read my mind! Do you know what any of those songs are called?
Anyone know where I can watch full 49ers games from like 94-98. Is there just like a index or something to find them???
Man I've been wondering the same. Not many here on TH-cam.
Great video. Great quality. Wish you would have included entire young TD run from start. Left some excitement on the table.
PLAYOFFS?! You talkin about PLAYOFFS?! Lmao Haha!
way better than N 'if' L series
Patrick DeSantis W
L
Patrick DeSantis agree completely. Damashek is so unlikable that it makes the series suffer. His podcast sucks too and Ike Taylor is the worst regular guest on any sports podcast ever.
PLAYOFFS?!
Practice!? We talkin bout practice!?
Who talkin bout playoffs? U kiddin me?
Steve Young and Peyton Manning are who we thought they were!!!! Now if you wanna crown them, then crown their ass, but they are who we thought they were!!!
Great breakdown of a great game.
Well done.
I remember this one! Steve Young was a rare athlete!
Why did we change our uniforms?
These gold uniforms were perfect.
Next QB turnaround will feature Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Big Ben, Eli Manning, and Phillip Rivers retiring within a couple of years of one another.
It’ll be sad when they all leave the league
Rice TO and stokes where fun to watch! Along with young and Hearst!
I love these types of videos.
Steve Young is the Best Dual Threat QB ever Running/Passing.... He doesn't get credit for paving the way for dual threat QB like K. Stewart, D. McNab, Mike Vick, etc... I would take Young over any QB not named Joe Montana
warren moon and Randall Cunningham paved the way for them
Tarkenton was the first and greatest dual threat qb
+Ben Rocketship.
First, sure. Greatest? That's a bit of a stretch.
Quis Buffett I think you're forgetting John Elway
LOL no. Steve was significantly better, especially as a passer.
Never count on Vanderjagt to make a clutch kick...
BobtheBusinessBuilder Unless you're the Toronto Argonauts
I just loved those niners teams from 95-98 even though they never got a sb. 97 was our year!!! It still hurts
You do an admirable job with editing and narration.
Luck vs Peyton, his first game back in Indy will always stick out to me. The apprentice beating out the master. Great stuff.
Waiting for them fake accounts
i ain't fake
Juanjo Rodriguez the only fake accounts are the cowgirl players because they’re incarcerated
look who's talking
I ain’t fake
aint no fake players
Two legends
Peyton rookie year
Harrison and manning great side kick
Two nfl greats going at it in this game.
I really miss this NFL, I grew up watching this. Now I can't even watch a game. They ruined the game for me.
I hear ya
wait, what about when Russel Wilson Beat Tom Brady 24-23 his rookie season?
Femboy 87 I thought of that asap when I started the video up Russell and the LOB won that one in Seattle 2012 season
exactly!
Then they meet again in the SB
Pete Caroll should have run it
Run a mediocre goal line back with the clock running out - clearly surprised when he realized Belichick wasn’t going to call a timeout?
Excellent video in every way
I like Brady’s shady hilarious subtle dig on Watson with that Whiplash reference/quote! Touché, Tom
Why is everyone saying Peyton is the goat? Smh the only goat I see is Ryan Leaf 3:22
Flats The Flounder Peyton not a goat but a sheep
14 ints in 6 games? Oh right, defensive players back then were allowed to play real defense instead of just mouth their way to elite status like they do today.
Internet Tough Guy ......
Or because they were playing a rookie qb?
Other QBs didn't have those stats lol. Peyton is an INT machine.
Not everything is about “these days” dude. There’s a lot of current problem with the NFL but that ain’t one of them.
Manning threw 15 INT in 1999 and in 2000 which means the NFL went full on liberal/pussy/snowflake prior to the 1999 season. Manning threw 10 INT in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 9 INT in 2006. All thru 16 games. So the verdict is in. The NFL was tougher in 1998 and prior.
Thanks NFL, great content
that is amazing how many HOF's played in this game Steve Young, Jerry Rice, T.O., Marshall Faulk, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison.
PEYTON THE GOAT 🐐🐐🐐🐐
stop smoking crack
tom brady the GOAT
Joe Montana the GOAT 🐐🐐🐐🐐
ro pa, cherry picking qualifiers is the tactic of a person who knows they're wrong. By the way, Brady is still playing and will likely beat Manning in your two stats.
ro pa And stats aren’t a team effort? Peyton Manning doesn’t throw TD passes if his line doesn’t block and his receivers don’t get open.
Tom Brady has a higher passer rating than Peyton, btw.
Manning is the GOAT even tho I'm a 9ers fan.
Tiger ii How can you even say that? LOL.
Tiger ii you mean Peyton is a sheep
Manning >Brady
No hate.tho Brady still high level.and filling both hands with rings
My two favorite QBs of all time!
I'll tell you right now, it was a real treat getting to watch Peyton Manning play all of those years in the Colts and then the eventual Broncos. His play making was something special for sure. Football lost a great player the day he retired.

Wow, great video... all those hof players careers colliding.
I take Steve Young in his prime any day over Peyton Manning in his prime.
Check out my week 5 predictions
WELL DONE! Subscribed :)
1998 was the best year ever in the NFL. Peyton Manning and Randy Moss arrived. Reggie White won defensive player of the year at age 37 then retired. John Elway won the super bowl and then retired. Great mix of legends and incredible young talent.
Playoffs?!?!
Not if the rest of the South has their way.
