This triggered my interest and I am wondering if you could do another video expanding on your reasons -- would love to hear them all! Would this be possible?! Please and thank you always for your videos :)

    As an academic physician and someone who has interviewed prospective medical students, there is no mystery why she was admitted to medical school. Organic chemistry is the major academic obstacle. A great academic record and test results do not guarantee admission. This young woman has an appealing personality, superior communication skills, and candid about her life experience. I would expect her to be an effective and caring physician.
    Best of luck.

Im currently in the exact same boat you were in, I just finished my 2 years at solano CC, and I even got into SFSU for this spring semester, the same school you went to! What a coincidence! I was really worried about how going to a CC might affect my application, about sfsu being a good fit for someone shooting for med school and I have so many other questions about the opportunities available there, (and SF housing ;( ) but I know that you are busy busy. If you end up reading this, I just want to thank you for strengthening my faith in what im doing rn and reassuring me, without even knowing it, that it is very much still possible! I love that you had so much real-world work experience before going into medical school! It's crazy to think so many people go straight from high school->college->medical school and all and enter the working world with their very first job ever as a medical doctor. There's so much you learn in your first few years of working about workplace politics, leadership, your strengths, the list goes on...I can't imagine having none of that experience before becoming a doctor!
    You also made a really great point about consistency, and I don't think I've seen a lot of videos mention that!

    By just watching the first two minutes of this video I felt such a relief and inspiration, most people will say “ohh you need to take a lot of ap classes, and need to attend a a university” and as a freshman at a university who’s also in pre med, I can’t emphasize how much this helped!!!!Thank you for this video.

    I think your gpas were perfect. You’re such an inspiration. I did well in high school, took a bunch of so classes, graduated with a weighted >4.0 gpa, did a college that did not push me the way I wanted it to. And was pretty burned out by the time I got to med school. And honestly struggled all throughout med school. I saw your video on how you honored your med school classes and that is awesome. I went to an MD school and was pretty burned out. Yeah it’s a long journey for sure.

    I had a 3.7 and it dropped to a 3.0 by graduation and I was amazing with English but struggled with math. My ACT wasn’t the best. I tested out of English in college, but I took Elementary Algebra and failed it 7 times. I dropped out. I decided to avoid math. I was an Education major. I got my CNA, Med. Aide, and Activity Director and 10 years later, decided to go back to school. All my credits expired. I took 3 lower levels of math and aced them, but didn’t go back to school because I had a lot of bad stuff going on like a patient attacked me and I couldn’t do my ADLs and I didn’t have good ROM and I was raped and I was hospitalized with hemiplegic migraines, so I moved back home and I worked a lot and COVID happened and I was struggling financially. Then, I wanted to hit a restart and return to school and I’m finally going to try to work and attend school again and I want to be Pre-Med.

    I have been watching your videos for quite some time now (not creepy or anything), and you have really quelled a lot of qualms I have had prior to watching your videos. I was especially confused about if the medical profession was right for me because I am particularly SKILLED at everything I set my mind to, including my science courses, with half my siblings in the medical field. Nevertheless, as a rising junior in college with ~5 minimal volunteer experience (non-clinical or health related), with a part-time ~20 hours a week job and on 2 E-board on two clubs, I was worried that I didn't have enough clinical experience. However, hearing that you completed 50 (+) shadowing hours really cleared up a lot of heavy worries on my chest. I know that I am writing a whole essay here, but I just wanted to say thank you for making your videos and sharing your experiences. you’re really changing lives out here!!!!

    Volunteering in a medical-type setting is so beneficial for getting into med school 💪

    • @anthonyromano6921
      @anthonyromano6921 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Adnan A Volunteering does nothing. Get yourself into a research lab and get published. It’s an excellent way to stand out from the massive applicant pool.

    • @Silentstorm174
      @Silentstorm174 4 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      Over Sensing Don’t tell him that, of course it does something.. You’re hurting yourself tremendously if you don’t volunteer. Research is great too, but whatever you do, do not just assume volunteering isn’t worth your time

    • @anthonyromano6921
      @anthonyromano6921 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seth Acup volunteering won’t set you apart from the rest....What’s so hard to understand. Everyone volunteers, or has good grads, or went for a masters degree like myself. Get published if you want to stick out from the applicant pool.

    • @Silentstorm174
      @Silentstorm174 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@anthonyromano6921 And I'm not disputing any of that, but volunteering is still a critical part of the process. If you were somehow lucky enough to get an interview without any experience, one would have an awfully difficult time explaining why you weren't able to take a second out of your day, yet want to help people in the future. Setting yourself apart by doing something unique is great advice, but for someone just starting out, I just wouldn't want that to be interpreted as "volunteering is pointless." That's all. I agree with your point.

    • @silentaria3241
      @silentaria3241 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Anthony Romano essentially what Seth is saying is you can do all the research you want,but if you don’t have good volunteering hours, you might as well be saying “I’m into research,not medicine and clinical practice”

    Just took physiological psychology and will be taking human physiology this semester depending on how well I do in this course will really determine if being a doctor is for me. This will be my first “real” science class with lab. UC davis wants one of three classes for psychology majors and I chose this! Good to hear I might have made the right choice and to just expand my knowledge. Thanks for this video very insightful!

    For me I started with a 4.4 in high school, tons of AP classes and great SAT. Then went straight into a well-known competitive 4 year college as a neurobiology major. I completely overloaded myself with science classes and ended up bringing my gpa into the tank. I highly recommend doing community college and going to a 4 year that is on the smaller side and not very competitive. Your GPA is sooo important! I wish I knew this in high school.
