It’s been 8 years now since I first commented on this beautiful music. In all those 8 years I haven’t had a single response, but that’s ok. I can still listen to this with tears in my eyes, because I was in my 20’s when I last played this. I am now 72, and retired from banding 26 years ago. Thank you to my dad Alec, his dad Charles, his dad Abraham, and my brother Terry. They are all long gone now, but I still remember.

When this piece was written the entire Fodens band went to see the film Things to Come, which had been scored by Arthur Bliss, to get a feel for his music.

Long Lea Valley Band (Langley Mill) placed first at Leicester contest with Kenilworth. Adjudicator Dr. Kieth Wilkinson said the middle movement swung it as this exposed any flaws. I remember nearly jumping off the balcony with my sister Angela my principal corner when the results were announced.

How wonderful to hear this beautiful piece again. I played it many years ago in the days when I was a solo euphonium player. Steve Anderson. 17 June 2013.

I think this was a national 2nd section qualifier test piece in late 70's. I remember playing flugel for Coed Ely Brass Band on this
