  • Brassband Kempenzonen performing Lake of the Moon composed by Kevin Houben directed by Raf Van Looveren at World Music Concours 2009 in Kerkrade, Netherlands.
The travels of the Aztec people as they headed south through North America looking for a new home, acted as the inspiration for Lake of the Moon. The composition contains small fragments of Oriental music and South American rhythms and occasionally, Russian Cossacks seem to raise their heads. The journey from North to South is not without danger, which is represented by threatening sounds within the music. In the Adagio divoto the composer takes us along to the Texcoco Lake, which the Aztecs called the lake of the moon.

Absolutely beautiful! Having played this piece in my local brass band, I understand the challenge of this piece, and this sounds almost perfect, other than a minor mispitch at the beginning somewhere by one of the cornets, it was pretty much perfect!

@@iCupboard Well we were competing in 1st division and it is divided into two sections. “The preselected section” and “the self chosen section”.
This was our piece for the “self chosen Music piece” and we actually came 1st in that category. But we came last in the “preselected Music piece” and we Therefore got 3rd place overall in the 1.division that year
