I still remember the Texaco Sierras arriving in Bathurst for the 1987 1000km endurance where they won 1 and 2. They were very slick cars.

Great show Adam . I lived in New Zealand at the time of group A .It was an exciting time for touring car racing . Whilst it could never have continued for lots of reasons , the technology and politics on and off the track made for plenty of great racing . Can i also say I really appreciate the accuracy of Pauls knowledge of these cars and this time . When I moved to Australia in 1998 , one of my 1st trips was to Dick Johnson Racing,s workshop in qld . What a great thrill it was to see his old and current racing cars as well as one of my favorite Ford Sierra racing car in the flesh . They are truly one mad little car from that time !!

I use to work for AVON race tyre`s in the late 80`s , we did some tyre testing with andy rouse and a few other top driver`s .when speaking to some of andy`s lad`s thay told me andy rouse would build you one of his spec rs500 for £117k , while eggenburger in germany would charge £150k for one of his car`s and andy`s car`s where near as fast as eggenburger`s rs500 , only 0.36 second`s in it

You can hear the passion in his voice for these cars it’s great hearing a true enthusiast share many years of knowledge interested to know if Paul has ever done any work for the McRae family I know Jimmy still has the works RS500 that the 3 of them rallied . I moved to the Scottish highlands and the amount of old Fords hiding in barns up here is unreal I keep dreaming I’m gonna come across a bargain Gem one day and bring it back to life . I could listen to Paul all day chat about cars and Adam maybe they should have a joint channel on Fords alone ? Keep up the great work guys 👍👍

As an Australian, while the Texaco Sierras which were DQ'd at Bathurst in 1987 do come in reasonably high on my list, there are several other cars that spring to mind first. Various Peter Brock, Dick Johnson, and Allan Moffatt race cars come ahead of it, as well as the much-hated (at the time) Nissan Skyline GT-R. Top of the list is the Day-Glo Orange Marlboro Holden Dealer Team Commodore that Brock drove to wins at Bathurst, Sandown, and Surfers Paradise in 1984.

The 1987 Group A Bathurst 1000 race saw the Eggenberger Racing Sierra's pulling to 170 mph (280kph) on Conrod Straight. The race was won by Steve Soper and some French guy in the Texaco. Famously, history showed us that they were chucked out after a protest, the win going to the late, great Peter Brock. After that debacle, the Dick Johnson Racing 'Shell Sierra RS500's of 1988 were the most powerful and fastest of the entire Sierra fleet world wide. I was lucky enough to drive one at a track day at Phillip Island a while ago. Powerband as thin as a razor blade but power as thick as a rocket.

I imagine the toys did a lot for the memories people have for the Texaco RS500 . i have the Kyosho RC car , Matchbox and Scalextric versions . Most boys had one as a kid and from searching for my own collection only Scalextric did other coloured racing RS500s . The RS500 Scalextric track was massively popular as well with the lights working . I wouldn't be at all surprised if the toys made this car so famous even more than its racing career . My love affair started walking to junior school past 3 moonstone RS500s every morning . I wasn't even a teenager and i already knew my dream car and i have never looked back since .
