That transition into Know Who You Are gives me a pleasant little shiver, every time. Geoff dropping into that G1, Layne singing, Rachel's precision in her delivery... it's a pure moment.
I hope others understand and identify, but when I watch you react it makes me happy like that same kid in the candy store reacting to you and them and getting the same feelings and emotions of joy with them, and noticing the little things as well. I just feel nothing but happy watching this medley.

This was done during the time when Tony (the baritone) had left the group and they were searching for a replacement, eventually hiring J. None for the slot. Rachel has done guest spots both in the 5th spot and with the full group. Earl recently left the group and she filled in the 5th spot in their Little Mermaid medley, which is stellar.
I guess they list Layne as Hei Hei exactly because the character has no lines. Since he's the beatboxer he doesn't get to sing lyrics. Maybe it's a double play to have him as hei hei?
There's few songs/medleys that can give me a consistent physical reaction every time I hear it but this song puts my hair on end and gives me whole body goosebumps every single time I hear it.

This is a very good medley; Rachel also has a mash-up with Voctave with "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "I've Put A Spell On You" from Hocus Pocus. She sounds as lovely and clear on that one as she does here with VoicePlay.

Listening to your reactions for a complete musical idiot like me is like listening to TED Talks. I know nothing about what you're talking about, but I hear your passion, your knowledge and your genuine appreciation of the art. I've been a big fan of acapella groups for a few years, but I couldn't sing myself to save my own life. I can't distinguish different notes from each other. If anything, I'd be a drummer or a part of the rhythmic section. Hearing their talent (Home Free, Pentatonix, Voiceplay and many other) is like looking at the dream house you wish you had. And hearing an in-depth analysis with tidbits of highly scientific parts now and then (much about the human anatomy) is just golden news for my knowledge-hungry ears. Keep it up! You rock, Elizabeth!
I'm keeping an eye out for something that might interest me :) As for future recommendations, I can concur with many others about Voiceplay's Little Mermaid medley. It has a lot of similarities with this video and song (Layne arrangement, Layne video, feat. Rachel Potter etc.), but I'd be interested in how you'd react when they've changed Earl (tenor) to J None (baritone?) and how that has affected the overall sound and how the different singers adapt to the change in group composition. I'd also like to know if your newly found knowledge about how the tracks are built/arranged/produced/layered/edited (from the Layne interview) affects how you react to the video and it's many different elements. I'd simply like to see the Little Mermaid medley as a comparison to this video and how the small changes affect your perception of the sound.

Definitely nothing distracting, I just happened to notice the second one while watching and caught the first one when looking for the timestamp :)

It is indeed Eli on that bass part. He's a baritone that is usually singing low tenor. And that "in post" part was most likely Layne. He's kinda crazy like that.
Most of the songs are recorded, in a lot of them they have Geoff's voice recorded in the background, like when in the Oogie Boogie Song, when Geoff isn't singing, he's doing the background bass. Also, when they don't have recordings, and its live, Eli doesn't do it.

Those strange noises you thought were "post" were all Layne. The light was low and the type of noises he was making don't require much facial movement, but you could see it ever so slightly on his face that it was him doing it. You should also check out Voiceplay with Rachel Potter doing "The Phantom of the Opera". She is mind blowing amazing in that song. Another awesome medley from Voiceplay is their Queen medley. That video is epic.

For some songs, like the Oogie boogie song, they record Geoff’s voice more than once so he can have the lead and the bass at once

Most of the songs are recorded, in a lot of them they have Geoff's voice recorded in the background, like when in the Oogie Boogie Song, when Geoff isn't singing, he's doing the background bass. Also, when they don't have recordings, and its live, Eli doesn't do it.
My bad, I listened back a few times, it's not as deep as it was originally portrayed, it's baritone range.

I would love to see the Frozen II Medley. I love this movie, I love VoicePlay now, and they performed it fantastically. And the woman singing with them has an awesome voice

Those strange noises you thought were "post" were all Layne. The light was low and the type of noises he was making don't require much facial movement, but you could see it ever so slightly on his face that it was him doing it.
You should also check out Voiceplay with Rachel Potter doing "The Phantom of the Opera". She is mind blowing amazing in that song. Another awesome medley from Voiceplay is their Queen medley. That video is epic.
