- It's no secret that VoicePlay is one of my favorite a cappella groups, and seeing them on a tear right now makes me exceptionally happy. Then this song came out. "We Don't Talk About Bruno" topped the Hot 100 charts, and is still cruising at #2 six weeks later. There is fire around this, and I just have to see how VoicePlay recreates this masterpiece.

Okay, so... Geoff's costume change is actually BRILLIANT. Its a hint that he's not playing Bruno at all! In the movie the "seven foot frame..." verse belongs to Camilo. What does that have to do with the costume change and Isabela's line? Camilo is a SHAPESHIFTER. This is one hundred percent a thing Camilo would find funny.
Now I'm hoping for fanart of Camilo and Geoff!

I love their faces when Geoff takes over the Isabella line. Ashley looks like "Why is he singing my line?", Layne looks over like "What the hell?" and Cesar looks to the side as if saying "What's going on here?" ^^

Cesar too...in almost all of the VP videos now, there's some brief interaction between Cesar and Geoff.
I adore the "married couple" energy between Pepa and Felix, and Ashley/Cesar capture it perfectly.
Right down to her eye-roll when he apologizes for interrupting her story. 😂
Plus he nails the little Felix correction after Pepa sings, "It was my wedding day," with, "It was OUR wedding day!" Love that. Felix is just happy to be here, and Cesar channels him here.

In fact, Geoff is portraying Camillo, the shapeshifter. In "We don't talk about Bruno", it was this character that was imitating Bruno. So it is coherent that he switched costume for the Isabella part. This last change was not in the film in the song, but it is sooo well done !
That hair flip by Geoff just sold it for me.

In a Patreon Q&A, Geoff was asked who decided he should wear the same shorts and shirt as Ashley. Turns out, the plan for him to sing the second line was in Layne's arrangement. GEOFF said, wouldn't it be funny if I was wearing the same thing. The clothes came with two sizes (rental) to make sure the fit was right. Geoff is apparently one woman's dress size larger than Ashley.

Love this one! One reactor paused the video on Geoff's face in the flower section, and said, 'Look, that is a perfect Disney princess!' Hilarious!
Cesar is such a great addition to the group - I can't watch him without grinning because of his humor.
This is one of those VP videos you have to watch at least five separate times, just to focus on everything one performer is doing all the way through. So many little jokes and nods to the original. Like Layne taking Dolores' part, which had the rhythm of her shoes while dancing as such an integral piece of the whole (and his voice is just so naturally sweet and unassuming). Geoff getting to switch roles just like Camilo. And of course, everyone's side-eyes and eye-rolls! So much fun acting in addition to the great vocal performances and amazing arrangement.
I think my favorite “acting” bit in this is the way Ashley sympathetically strokes Eli’s head when he’s lamenting his hair loss. 😂
The “nutella” thing you heard was the part where Eli rapidly sings “Why did he tell her?”.

Have you NOT done "If I were a Rich Man/Girl"? It's an absolute must! It's a mix of the original show tune and Gwen Stefani's "If I Were a Rich Girl" and Ashley Diane kills it.

Fantastic mix of crazy-talented vocals and humour - just a joy to watch. As they said in one of their webchats, they take the music seriously, but not themselves. That's why we love them!
Geoff is playing the role of Camilo….the one who can shape shift, so he changes from Bruno to the sister after Ashley sings that line.

I really enjoyed how Geoff and Layne work together to create such a solid rhythm section. It gives the rest of the group the best platform to shine, and adds a really powerful dynamic.
Definitely one of the best reactions/review of this one I have seen. And I have seen most of them. Lol. When Geoff started singing Isabella’s line, the look on Ashley’s face like she was so pissed. Then Layne glancing over during that,like ‘WTF Geoff.’ And Cesar looking towards the exit like he wanted to leave. was so funny. When The Isabella line starts, I turn all my attention to the reactor now. Lol just waiting for the laughter.

I have been following Voiceplay since I first found them years ago. I absolutely love their performances, talents, and productions. They have grown, in my opinion, from a young group of marvelous talents to a miraculous group of vocals rivalling anything out there, and surpassing most.
But for all the love I have for their music and talent, I have to say I may have laughed more watching your reaction. Priceless!

I think that is what I like about Voiceplay. By changing one voice each time they are able to put in the perfect selection for the job.

I admit at first I was confused about why Geoff went from Bruno to Isabela (hilarious though it is), then watching the original it hit me -- he's not Bruno in the green, he's Camilo shapeshifting into Bruno as he describes his 7 foot frame, rats along his back and all. And if Camilo can 'become' Bruno, why not Isabela? Plus Geoff doesn't just do it, he OWNS it, with that smile. Too funny!

Love your reaction...Kathy is the one throwing the petals at Ashley and Geoff.....I love to watch your expressions as you watch....I am glad you rewound and caught Ashleys expression when she sang about the dead fish....So many miss it because they close their eyes or look away that that part....Most reactors have watched this without having watched the movie first, but watching the movie gives much more context and understanding to the song....
Another reactor, Mortius did an interview/live stream with Cesar for their birthdays....Cesar confirmed that the scream wasn't actually Geoff, but the screaming goat sound effect....

Well, to be fair, beyond that purple light was his wife Kathy, flinging rose petals at his face. 😍 They actually slowed the video down to half during those scenes to make it look like the petals were wafting their way on a gentle breeze, but they were really being blown in their faces by a high powered fan. 😂
@@maskedmallard537 That is of course true, I have also watched the BTS video, and Geoff often looks off to one side in videos, where I'm sure he's looking at Kathy, though in this instance he's clearly looking above her, the line of sight wouldn't be right, but I take your point. He's just got such loving eyes anyway, you can't act or fake that look of love that comes from within. I see it often even as he looks into the camera.
You should definitely do the rich man/rich girl song. It has one of, if not the best runs I have ever heard in a song. I really think you would enjoy. Plus just a good song in general

Ashley gives a very good rendition of Stephanie Beatriz, Mirabel's voice.
Also, you "really" want to react/analyse their rich man video. There's a lot to say musically and technically about that video... And Ashley obliterates everybody else in that video with one spectacular run
It took me a whole lot of viewings to catch all the details in this: Layne’s and Cesar’s expressions when Geoff is in the blouse (Ashley’s too-she’s all, “you stole my line!”). So many musical nuances- Geoff is always kind of partly percussion with those low notes, but more so in this, and Layne’s amazing inhaled bass at the end. Eli’s acting (And I am going to grumble just a little bit here-I think there must be a reason Eli is usually separated from Geoff, but in this case, putting him behind Layne, who is a tall guy, kind of blocks some of his physical expressions). Ashley really blends well with these guys vocally-I hope it isn’t another year before she is featured again.
And just a suggestion, you really should react to “If I Were a Rich Man/Girl,” because Ashley does some things vocally that are well worth your attention.

Didn't go through all the comments so I don't know if this was mentioned before but Bruno's original name in the story was Oscar. Lin-manuel Miranda asked them to change it because Bruno was easier to rhyme with 😁
I was smiling and grinning the entire time with you despite having rewatched their video countless times; your glee is infectious. :) I recommend "A Chance to Fly" also by Voiceplay, their amazing medley of songs from Wicked the musical. Unrelated but another recommendation: "Oath of the Gatewatch" by Planeswalker for a bunch of reasons you'd appreciate.
We don't talk about Bruno, but we sure talk a lot about talking about Bruno! I first heard this when watching the movie and loved it there. As usual VoicePlay does a wonderful and funny cover. And - again as usual - you take us through all of the details, pointing out a few things I know I missed, all while simply enjoying the piece for the entertainment it is! Thank you!
