That's exactly how I've always felt, especially considering that I graduated high school in 2003. I think it feels like that because of the rapid changes that happened with society, there was SO many different cultural trends, music genres, styles, etc. that have come and gone during that era in between 1979 and 2003. I remember thinking in 2000 that 1990 seemed completely different even though it was only 10 years ago at that time. The rise of the internet at the time has alot to do with that feeling I think.
Some of my earliest memories were when my dad would take us to Burger King and I remember specifically around this same time there were some really cool Pokémon toys you would get. What great memories

I smoked in line at a Burger King as late as 2001. Times were different. They were grosser. They... they weren't "good," necessarily, but in many ways they were more enjoyable.
When I lived in the 90s as a late teen I thought 80s was the same way I see the 90s today. I think the morale of it all is when we take the time to reflect is when we find fond memories, because those memories at the time were stolen from not being present. So future does prove past.

Yes i was a smoker at this time the clean air act stopped it in 2003 I believe thats when bars became very popular and casinos to this day you can still smoke in depending on your state
So that's how Burger King used to do their burgers.... 1) Cooked burger comes out from top of broiler, with toasted buns coming out from bottom. 2) Person puts burger into buns, then places them into a warm storage bin. 3) When a burger is ordered, person removes burger from bin, takes off the top bun, places meat with bottom bun into microwave to quickly warm it up, then adds toppings and top bun. Nowadays, it seems to be: 1) Cooked burger comes out from broiler, and is placed into warming tray. 2) When a burger is ordered, person grabs fresh buns from bun package, drops it into quick toaster, takes warmish meat from warming tray, and assembles hamburger. 3) Microwaving is forbidden unless asked for by customer (which I do).
Guess it depends on freshness too. Seems like at bk the burgers are premade on that rack. But at McDonald's they don't make it until they get the order
I was 34 in 99 and had given up smoking by then. Those who I know who continued to smoke died of cancer, heart attack or severe COPD. It is not worth it. I was happy when they got rid of smoking in all places in NY.
I've worked at 3 BKs in my life with 4 and 11 year gaps in between from California to Pennsylvania and we never made our Whoppers like that. The buns are supposed to be either in a steamer or dropped through the toaster after the customer orders, and the Whopper patties are supposed to be placed in trays so that they can soak in their own juices and then placed in hear chutes to stay hot. The only time you're allowed to do what they did in this video is if the customer asks for the Whopper patties to be straight from the broiler, in which case they'd have to wait way longer. Even then, though, those buns are not to be taken out and unless they're freshly toasted. Everything in BK's sandwich making process that might seem benign or irrelevant to an outsider is straight up law for those who work there because they've conducted taste studies throughout the years so that everything is perfect. Like, you can't just assemble a Whopper any which way you want so long as all the ingredients and condiments are the same. You have to put mayo on the top bun, then add the lettuce, then the tomato. While doing that, the bottom bun with the beef patty is supposed to get nuked with or without cheese for 10 seconds. Then, you have to add the pickles, then the ketchup, and lastly the onions. If the manager catches you doing anything other than that, be prepared to be fired and possibly spend the rest of your life in prison!

@@AntiMasonic93 Back then you could actually somewhat live on those wages.
@@AntiMasonic93 no nothings changed since then. they're still teens and they're doing the job for a paycheck not prideful bullshit
yes its exactly like this now aswell
I smoked in line at a Burger King as late as 2001. Times were different. They were grosser. They... they weren't "good," necessarily, but in many ways they were more enjoyable.
I remember places that had smoking and none smoking areas.
Before I even start the video I am already LMAO at the thumbnail of dude with a butt hanging from his mouth lol
When I lived in the 90s as a late teen I thought 80s was the same way I see the 90s today. I think the morale of it all is when we take the time to reflect is when we find fond memories, because those memories at the time were stolen from not being present. So future does prove past.
moral of the story, don't take the present for granted. There's a lot to love about the current world, people just love to think they have it the worst.
@@JunkBondTrader right. The good Ole days were once present too.
Smoking while at the counter, WOW!
Exactly how it should be. 👌
@@Gameboy-Unboxings hell no

Yea dude. I was 100% a 90s child and I miss it so much. Riding our bikes to the local BK was always a treat with the local neighborhood kids...Was born in 88 so I remember MOST of the 90s
@@ptrekboxbreaks5198 yeah I was born in 83 so remember some of the 80s and 90s were my real childhood. Its incredible how different those two decades were. I guess the 00s were different, too, but I was an adult by then so might not see all the nuances.
Civilization has REGRESSED, my goodness
The Wild, Wild West poster in the background. Didn’t need to tell me it’s 99, that’s a dead giveaway lol
I remember restaurants having designated areas for smokers. Never remember anyone being rude enough to smoke their cigs in the general population. I can’t stand the smell of cigarettes. Anyway so glad they got rid of them in public space.
Customers could smoke while eating their food at Burger King in 1999.
As well at McDonald’s too
in which state?
Yes i was a smoker at this time the clean air act stopped it in 2003 I believe thats when bars became very popular and casinos to this day you can still smoke in depending on your state
I miss the 90’s
I dont remember that. Not in my state.
Nowadays, it seems to be:
1) Cooked burger comes out from broiler, and is placed into warming tray.
2) When a burger is ordered, person grabs fresh buns from bun package, drops it into quick toaster, takes warmish meat from warming tray, and assembles hamburger.
3) Microwaving is forbidden unless asked for by customer (which I do).
They actually brought back the microwaves!
Once I got to the words "nowadays it seems to be" I just fell out laughing 😂🤣😭
Interesting. I wonder which way is ultimately the fastest
Guess it depends on freshness too. Seems like at bk the burgers are premade on that rack. But at McDonald's they don't make it until they get the order
I just order mine off the grill to ensure it’s fresh and juicy.
The Whopper was huge & delicious back then too.
Entirely different burger than it is now
It's 99, I'm 9 years old just got out the theater from seeing wild wild west aunt takes us to burger King for lunch. Best times of my life
Wild Wild West. Wow. I remember the sunglasses that came with the happy meal.
I would give anything to go back to 1999
I was 34 in 99 and had given up smoking by then. Those who I know who continued to smoke died of cancer, heart attack or severe COPD. It is not worth it. I was happy when they got rid of smoking in all places in NY.
I was 15 years old in 99 starting my freshman year of high school

Sir, this is a Costco
I've never seen a career-BK dude take himself so seriously as I just saw in that burger diatribe.

It's kind of funny seeing guys like the cigarette dude today as old men. This video brings back so many memories. It's amazing how much things have changed, and also what's stayed the same.
I remember the whopper was a dollar
For the entire decade basically!
You people here in shock about no gloves should Google "The DISGUSTING Truth About Wearing Gloves While Handling Food"
The problem with looking stuff like that up online, is it often gives mix messages then a definitive answer. Like one group of researchers might say it good that they are wearing gloves, and the other might say it isn't good. It's all as to do with perception too. People nowadays are more grossed out about others handing their food bare handed, then back then. Most local health departments today mandate it too regardless.
Damn i miss 90's we have more freedom back then 😔
Now, it's gone
early 2000's was good too.
Those tenders man…they were the best thing ever with some of the BK bbq sauce.
I’m still upset they were taken off the menu, and I have no idea why. They were fantastic and I’d be so happy to see them come back (and I don’t think I’m alone).
If anyone from BK sees this, bring back the damn tenders and redeem yourselves.
WoNt be the same. Quality control is very different now
they don't offer those tenders anymore? wow! they were good with honey.

I preferred them with the BK bbq sauce, myself.
