I love how you can see the progression of Lucas’ love for her in season 6. It starts with the flirting during the meet cute but he backs away when he thinks she’s married. Then, he finds out differently but doesn’t really act on it until she comes in to yell at him about Allie. You can see on his face, by the time she walks away, he’s head over heels. In the next episode is that brief scene where they discuss needing a library and you can see the wheels turning in his head. This is where he decided to donate the building to the town but I’ve always thought it was mostly for her because she wanted it so badly and he wanted to make her happy. Then you see them working together and he asks her to lunch. She says no but this is also the first scene where L and N realize they both like her which is the reason N makes that comment about L being “a lover alright.” Then we get Dangerous Liaisons and E goes weak in the knees; Lucas was totally flirting with her here even though he said otherwise. Next, he has to protect her from Amos and he literally puts everything he has on the line for her. You don’t do that for a casual acquaintance. Last you have the meeting in the library where he says he would never let anything happen to her, then their flirting at the festival and the dance where he is ecstatic she chose him. I believe he was meant to be the choice from the beginning because she didn’t show any interest in Nathan until season 7 and that was just because she was confused. In season 6 it was always Lucas and in season 8 it was always him. She chose early on beginning here in season 6.
Thanks ladies on another podcast well done, I've enjoyed them all and look forward to seeing/ hearing more. I wanted to comment on the Dangerous Liaison scene, I believe Lucas knew exactly what he was doing he answered the question Elizabeth was trying so hard to ask but couldn't quite bring herself to finish asking. He was in fact attracted to her. In choosing this particular quote from the book it actually said what he has been thinking about Elizabeth for awhile. He did successfully get our girl hot and bothered and If she had a fan she would have used it. I've rewatched this episode just for that scene quite a bit and it still makes me smile. I knew right then that he was the one.
Elizabeth sees: Nathan hurt - continues dancing and is all smiles Lucas hurt - immediately asks Nathan to take her home before their dinner date even starts
Love your comments about Lucas & his coming to HV. The first time we saw him was in the cafe & he was a perfect gentleman, friendly to everyone. I thought Bill introducing himself as " the Sheriff' was hateful & cocky. Think he had a chip on his shoulder just because he didn't get to buy the saloon. But then, Lucas meeting Nathan was ugly also. Nathan was rude & cocky, too. So, I loved it when Elizabeth defends Lucas to Nathan about teaching Allie 'to Gamble' & for Opal getting hurt when the kids went into the woods. One of my most favorite scenes is when Lucas & Elizabeth are in the library & Elizabeth talked about the incident in the saloon, that she could have been taken from her son. Lucas says he wouldn't let anything happen to her. He'd do everything to protect her. After all that was kind of his thing now. Elizabeth gets the cutest little smile that she tries to hold back. I think this is the beginning of their attraction to each other. I agree that Elizabeth was looking for Lucas to ask him to dance. She looked at Nathan sadly just because he looked hurt. Already you can just see chemistry between Elizabeth & Lucas, but nothing really with Nathan.
I completely agree. If you watch all of season 6, she chose Lucas and had a very obvious attraction to him. From their meet cute where she was kind of flirtatious to dangerous liaisons and their work in the library then their time at the festival and the ladies choice, it was obviously Lucas until that last glance at Nathan. In season 7 she was very undecided but I believe it was because she was fighting the Jack thing that cropped up at the dance. After Lucas left was when she realized she wanted him.
Thank you ladies for another wonderful discussion. I just love all of your commentary and insights. I always learn something or get a different insight after listening to you all. I then have to go back and rewatch the past episodes, which is a joy. Keep up the great work!
I am glad this is a topic. I felt that in Season 6 people were relatively mean to Lucas & super judgey. Nathan especially was such a jerk to him. He confronted Lucas in the saloon & told him that he didn’t belong in Hope Valley. Say what?! Then, I loved how Elizabeth defended Lucas in the infirmary when Opal got hurt in the woods. Nathan was trying to blame his poor parenting skills on Lucas……just like with the card trick. What Lucas did to try to help Ally assimilate to school was very sweet. It wasn’t Lucas’ fault she took it too far & used it to cheat the other kids….that’s on Nathan.
I so much agree with you. It is also possible that Nathan was resentful that someone he was jugding as bad and a "misfit" in HV, was having a somewhat good relationship with his niece. He could not read that this person was actually helping him and helping his niece adjust and integrate into this new community. That was too much for his character because he would then be forced to admit that there is something good in this person. Just a thought.
I am so sick of hearing people say he is shady because of that 1 episode! It does not matter how many times you explain it to them they just wont listen! As for the dance scene I dont think she thought of Nathan at all until she saw how sad he looked. I love love the way Lucas says " absolutely" when Elizabeth asks him to dance!!!
The good thing about the rants from these ladies esp Div is that what we seeing in the show and Nathan attitude and demeanor. So thats what is being pointed out, nothing made up or false but whats shown as exactly that.
I always listen to The podcast when it comes out, but love to watch it on TH-cam also, so I can see your faces and expressions to things said😄 Blanca, you are right on with N. You probably couldn't hear me😉, but I was saying "amen" to all you said. And Div, your my WCTH spirit animal🤣😜🤘🏻 Two thumbs up ladies!👍🏻👍🏻
I agree whole-heartedly Lucas is a good guy....honest and truly caring about Elizabeth !! Don't know what show the naysayers are watching ?? They are a beautiful couple together !!
New here! I love your podcast, thank you for the time you put into it. I like to switch between TH-cam and the Podcast app. Sometimes I need to see the little clips added in and I adore seeing your faces. It makes me feel like I'm drinking tea and talking to my friends about all things LucaBeth!
I enjoyed the podcast and agree with everything that has been said. I for one never thought Elizabeth would choose another mountie because she suffered a lot with Jack even before he died. Now having a child that puts another spin on things. When Allie came to town and Lucas helped her to fit in, the conversation with Nathan about children needing stability when Nathan said you know how mounties work. Plus Elizabeth has commented on what a good heart Lucas has. With Bill calling around about Lucas is probably why Amos found him. He already had people in his pocket. Lucas fitted in HV better than most. One thing about it all the women knew Lucas had eyes only on Elizabeth. Nathan's character is so very flawed. He's feels because he's a mountie people look up to him. However I didn't find him honorable or living up to his oath of office. He keeps secrets and lies about things. He doesn't take responsibility for things he does wrong. However I do like him as an investigator. He's not good with children. He allows Allie to get away with too much. He has been awful to Lucas at first sight. Yet Lucas was always concerned about him and Allie. Looking forward to your next podcast👏👏👏👏👏❤
Joan, I agree with everything that was said in the Podcast. I especially agree with you on your views of Nathan & his personality/behavior. He had been so hateful to Lucas, but he ran straight to him when he needed $1,000.00. Mostly, I thought he sounded a little silly when he said I Love you to Elizabeth, but even more ridiculous when he told her, I know you feel the same way I do. WHAT?!? I just couldn't see where he was coming from...they hadn't even had a date. Thank goodness Elizabeth took her time & saw that Lucas is the one for her & little Jack.
@@sharonnorton2708 What's also ridiculous is that while he's standing with Carson and watching Elizabeth flirt with Lucas, he says, "she's gotta get to know me." I mean, seriously?? They've known each other for over two years at this point. He doesn't know her and she doesn't know him, but he supposedly knows how she feels about him. I just can't with Nathan...
@@sharonnorton2708 Yes I agree with you. Also at Allie's adoption, he asked Elizabeth to come then Allie gave her a personal invitation and Nathan saw it and talked to Elizabeth about it. So he knew for sure she was coming, so when he said her name wasn't on the list he saw he was being hurtful. True Elizabeth doesn't know him and he definitely doesn't know her or did anything other than keep saying ILY. Never any action to back his confession of love.
@@DivineLustre I agree. I just hope when Season 9 starts, the writer's don't have Nathan act like he's all broken hearted because Elizabeth chose Lucas. On an interview after season 8, Kevin said Nathan will need to heal a broken heart & I just don't think he needs to sulk. Besides, he's already talked to Lucas & seemed to accept he wasn't who Elizabeth wants to be with.
@@joanjones6394 So very true. IMO, Nathan wanted to be Elizabeth's hero, her protector, but Elizabeth doesn't need that. It's like he wanted to win Elizabeth & Lucas to lose. Where Lucas wanted Elizabeth because he truly cares for her, but in the end, he wanted Elizabeth to decide who she wanted to be happy with. I think Lucas needed to know if she 'really' cared for him & wanted to be with him....when they met on the bridge, they validated they wanted each other. Nathan may be a good Mountie & is raising Allie, but he needs to mature some. Maybe meeting someone new, someone that will truly care for him will help him grow. Can hardly wait to see how life will go on for everyone in HV in Season 9.
Lucas is a relationship builder and we learn early on that he is honest and fair in his dealings with people…business wise and socially. What I found so interesting is that the first person he tells his entire secret to is actually Nathan. And Nathan believed him.
