Shaye's playing gets hotter and more relaxed with every passing day. What a lovely little band this is.

Tamar's voice and Shayes cornet make a wonderful couple...makes me happy just to think of them. I came here via Tamar singing 'Someday Sweetheart'...and there's no going home...Thanks Raoul...

The reason everyone is smiling, especially Shaye, is that the singer, Tamar Korn, has lit the fire of magic under the Loose Marbles and they know it ! She's an amazing jazz singer with a sound that's straight out of the 1930's, who does what great jazz singers are supposed to do, imitate the sounds and rhythms of the instruments as she does so skillfully, sounding like a muted trumpet in her scat solo. which is also unique to jazz. Shaye loves it, which is why she's smiling so broadly as Tamar goes into it. Tamar has played in NYC on Orchard Street, Lower East Side, with Michael Magro, clarinet, ( co founder, with Ben Polcer of Loose Marbles), as well as Canada, France and China. She's one helluva singer ! It's also one helluva band !

Very much enjoyed the musicianship in the vocals. This is now an orchestra of sorts. The tradition of everyone being able to take a solo will mean that some pieces could last all day. Suits me fine.

Love this ! Shaye is delighted with Tamar Korn's "muted horn" and they trade phrases.
Michael Magro, clarinet, and for many years with Ben Polcer, created Loose Marbles as a movable feast of traditional jazz players and was highly successful in New Orleans, N.Y.C. and touring for about a decade. Many fine musician got a start or a boost playing with Michael & Ben, including the core of Tuba Skinny, Meshiya Lake, Marla Dixon I'm told, and others. It's a terrific mix of New Orleans players - see below, and including Julie Schexnayder -on Bass.

the same guy that is playing in the tuba skinny band. I personally
prefer the drum kit to the washboard for this music but he is
very good at both. What a pleasure to listen to .

@@tomhendricks3841 Robin is playing in the authentic style of the early New Orleans jazz drummers, made famous by guys like Baby Dodds and Paul Barbarin, in the 1920's and 30's. Baby Dodds moved north to Chicago with the great King Oliver band in the early 20's and had a great influence on the legendary Gene Krupa, also from Chicago, before Krupa came to NYC.

+fetermcblues Oh yes. I saw Tuba Skinny a couple of weeks ago at the d.b.a. and Shaye is definitely still with them. Erika was missing however. "Out of town" I was told by Robin. Hope she returns soon.
What you see in this video is basically Tuba Skinny with a few pick up performers, therefore the appellation "Loose Marbles". Notice that Todd is playing tenor banjo here instead of the tuba. That was his instrument before he took up the tuba.
