Troy Donockley is playing the Uilleann Pipes. He's an excellent multi-instrumentalist with a great voice as well. He's been performing with Nightwish since 2007 and became a full-time member of the band in 2013.
@@MrsRealistic I highly recommend you react to "My Walden" from the 2015 Wembley show - it is a great introduction to Troy (he introduces the song, sings the opening bars in Welsh, and as Floor shouts: "come on Troy, bring us your beautiful pipes").
In the 2018 Buenos Aries version of I want my tears back, Troy sings 3 part harmonies with Floor and Marko. Floor dances even more and audience participation is crazy before they even start the song.
Fun fact. At one point, Empu switched off (or lowered the volume) on Floor's in-ear pack, after checking with Troy (who you just met). Funny how she refuses to show her back to him afterwards, towering over him as they both laugh (while playing for 82 thousand people). Gotta love them
Troy is yet another dimension. They have simphony and choir for background sound, a metal band with 2 great singers and there is Troy with about dozen instruments and backup voice. This configuration lets them play anything. For as long as Marko was in the band, of course. We'll see what they use on their 10th album this year.
"Last of the Wilds" is an instrumental. When the next song plays, Floor returns to the stage slightly late because she has a wardrobe malfunction that is not easily visible. She changed outfits and the zipper in her left armpit wouldn't go up fully. During GLS (Ghost Love Score), after Empuu's guitar solo there is an instrumental part where everybody is offstage. Floor gets the zipper fixed. If you watch closely when she returns, you see the zipper all the way up. In an unrelated note: There are 15 songs in the set list. One is "Last of the Wilds". Of the 14 remaining songs, half originated with the first NW singer Tarja Turunen and the other half originated with with the second singer Anette Olzon. Since Floor was hired just to finish the tour, the only changes made were to optimize the set list to her voice. When Floor and Troy were hired as permanent band members, songs were written to accommodate their voices on the next album (and yes, in addition to playing several instruments, Troy sings as well).
Another good one to see, with good close-ups, Troy play the pipes and another of his instruments, is ELVENJIG & ELVENPATH, live in Buenos Aires 2018. Elvenpath is the opening track of Nightwish' debut album Angels Fall First (1997). Elvenjig is a later addition as a prelude to Elvenpath. Gives Troy a chance to shine. Elvenjig is traditional kind of song, something like what Troy used to play in the band Iona. Tuomas was about 20 when he wrote Elvenpath. The lyrics are very much influenced by fantasy literature/films. Tuomas was concerned whether Floor was able to sing the song with a straight face, and not bursting into laughter.
You got it Mrs. realistic. Troy Donockley was a guest for this tour. Now he is a permanent member of Nightwish. They want their childhood tears of innocence back. Where is the wonder where’s the awe Where are the sleepless nights I used to live for Before the years take me I wish to see The lost in me I want my tears back I want my tears back now
Hello Mrs Realistic from Neolithic England! Like myself, Troy is also English and hails from the Cumbrian town of Workington in the North of England (I live in the South near Stonehenge). He is a multi-instrumentalist and as well as being a full-time member of Nightwish, is a founder member alongside Tuomas and his wife Johanna on the side-project 'Auri'. Troy has worked with Midge Ure, Mostly Autumn and even plays folk covers of punk songs with English Comedian/actor Adrian Edmundson in another side-project called 'The Bad Shepherds'. Troy has been associated with NW since 2007, playing as a session musician on the two albums that featured second singer Anette Olzon. Since 2015, Troy has become a fundamental piece of the NW jigsaw, and his musical influence is inter-woven into the Nightwish sound. Take care. Kevin
@@bujin1977 Yes I live extremely close to Stonehenge, which is covered in leylines, as well as longbarrows and chalk white horses cut into the hills. Cheers!
Wolverhampton. The home of Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. Does your Dad still have his Black Country accent I wonder? There is a more recent song called 'Harvest' that Troy actually sings the lead on. You could accept this as a non-patreon request if you felt an affinity with your English Cousin? Lol. Love your channel, and I look forward to your net reaction (whatever that might be?) Big hug
Yes on "High Hopes". The General provides the list to guide people to the best videos for each song. There is no need to feel obligated to go in any particular order as I'm sure he would tell you. In fact, I'm going to go do a superthanks and request that song. Time you got a good listen to Marko's clean voice.
@@MrsRealisticNightwish's rendition of Pink Floyd's High Hopes is absolutely incredible.... coming from someone who generally hates covers. That one is a tribute, however. Even David Gilmour loved it
Down the road check out this song from the Argentina concert 2018. Floor and the crowd go nuts dancin'' - - - - - it's great. She has a way of floating cross the stage. One thing I noticed among the comments surround Floor. She's obviously a beautiful. sensual woman that any man would be attracted to but I don't remember seeing any inappropriate comments. Only thing I can come up with is, Floor is so likable and talented out of sheer respect people just don't go there. (Thank God). Troy is also an accomplished guitarist. He and Floor have done several acoustic versions of Nightwish songs. All of them are just W O W. Glad to hear "High Hopes" is on your radar - you won't believe it when you see it. While you're on the End of an Era concert, try Tarja singing NEMO. They absolutely burned the place down with it. Tarja was/is an amazing singer. More operatic than Floor but an incredible singer. It still amazes me how this band has been able to have 3 world class female singers back to back to back - Good Lord -
He's Troy Donockley from Cumbria, England. He's been a permanent member of Nightwish since 2013. He is a multi-instrumentalist, who plays pipes, whistles, acoustic guitars and "space" guitars with E-bow device. He is also the main vocalist in the song "Harvest" and do some backing vocals. He's actually about 6 months younger than me, turning 60 in the next May. ⛄👍
Troy and Floor were asked to be members of Nightwish ,in June 2013 at a festival in Finland but, they only made it public at the start of November 2013,just before the dvd of wacken and the film "imaginaerum"came out.😉
Thanks! I won't do paypal since my bank accounts got hacked through that service a couple of months ago, so I'm taking this way to request Nightwish's "High Hopes" from the 2005 End of an Era DVD instead.
Thx for the reaction!! I will recommend My Walden live from Tampere for more pipes and a Low Whistle. Long ago I was in an Irish Pub and in marched 6 bag pipers , blew my mind and my ears it was so loud ! Btw I can’t wait for the High Hopes reaction 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼
Hello Mrs Realistic. This song is amazingly happy. Those guys are full of surprises as you can see. I really enjoy your reactions. Also the version in Buenos Aires is sooooooooo goooooood! Thank you.
Yes, you're right, this is a Uilleann Pipes. And the person unknown to you was probably Troy Donockley (born May 30, 1964). He is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist and has been a session player on NW studio albums and World Tours since 2007. He only comes on stage live when one of his instruments is needed. (It's funny that as an Englishman he plays Irish Folk music). In NW he is best known for his playing on the Uilleann pipes and flutes, but also for his use of the EBow. (A small, handheld device that is known as a handheld synthesizer. It works by emitting a magnetic pulse which interacts with your guitar string and pickups to create soaring, sustaining notes and synth like tones. (watch him play the EBow FM 0:00'30": "The Greatest Show on Earth" 2015 Live @ Wembley Arena). Although he has performed with many artists as a session player, he is particularly notable as a member of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, of which he became a full-time member in 2013.
Troy plays BRITISH folk music. The style is common to all the British isles, including Ireland. He has also played in several of his own bands and has solo albums out as well. He's currently also in the band Auri, with NW keyboardist Tuomas and Tuomas' wife, Johanna.
The live performance from Hartwall, Finland from 2012 adds a fun wrinkle to the mix. They throw in a violinist (Fiddler?) with the Irish bagpipe. What does detract from that performance (which is great) is the camera work. We don't see enough of Troy doing his thing. The Buenos Aires performance is also wor;th watching. Everyone is having FUN!
Gabriel’s list is great, but at this point just go where your heart will take you. There are no bad choices here. Last of the Wilds is great - all instrumental (and Floor took a costume change break into the Xena outfit).
@@MrsRealistic The short leather skirt with half cape and leather corset…the one she wore in Ghost Love Score! A lot of us call that her Xena The Warrior Princess outfit. There’s more than a slight resemblance there… 😅
"I love the way she dances, like you know an Elven Princess". (Perfect! How's this for Floor being like a magical Elven Princes dancing to pipes as her remarkable voice enchants?!) "The leaves were long, the grass was green, The hemlock-umbels tall and fair, And in the glade a light was seen Of stars in shadow shimmering. Tinúviel was dancing there To music of a Pipe unseen, And light of stars was in her hair, And in her raiment glimmering. There Beren came from mountains cold, And lost he wandered under leaves, And where the Elven-river rolled He walked alone and sorrowing. He peered between the hemlock-leaves And saw in wonder flowers of gold Upon her mantle and her sleeves, And her hair like shadow following. Enchantment healed his weary feet That over hills were doomed to roam; And forth he hastened, strong and fleet, And grasped at moonbeams glistening. Through woven woods in Elvenhome She lightly fled on dancing feet, And left him lonely still to roam In the silent forest listening. He heard there oft the flying sound Of feet as light as linden-leaves, Or music welling underground, In hidden hollows quavering. Now withered lay the hemlock-sheaves, And one by one with sighing sound Whispering fell the beechen leaves In the wintry woodland wavering. He sought her ever, wandering far Where leaves of years were thickly strewn, By light of moon and ray of star In frosty heavens shivering. Her mantle glinted in the moon, As on a hilltop high and far She danced, and at her feet was strewn A mist of silver quivering. When winter passed, she came again, And Her Song released the sudden spring, Like rising lark, and falling rain, And melting water bubbling. He saw the elven-flowers spring About her feet, and healed again He longed by her to dance and sing Upon the grass untroubling." J.R.R. Tolkien From "The Tale of Tinúviel", or (The Song of Beren and Lúthien)
My second daughter is named Lorien... from the Loth Lorien forest in the lord of the rings and I read some of the "lyrics" to this song and knew that was her name before she was even born (or we knew she was a girl) An Elven-maid there was of old, A shining star by day: Her mantle white was hemmed with gold, Her shoes of silver-grey. A star was bound upon her brows, A light was on her hair As sun upon the golden boughs In Lórien the fair. Her hair was long, her limbs were white, And fair she was and free; And in the wind she went as light As leaf of linden-tree.

Hope it helps you... Bye!👋🇮🇹🖖
@@MrsRealisticMarko's own composition. The song wasn't a good fit for his own band "Tarot", so Tuomas thought it could be a Nightwish song, and wrote the lyrics for it.
@@MrsRealistic Since Marko has left, Troy took over many singing parts. Perhaps it is time to move on to some newer Nightwish songs, you can see more of him.
@Mrs. Realistic: You asked what this song was about, "who they wanted their tears back from." I personally think it's time. Or age. I say this because of the lyrics, where they talk about "before the years take me, I wish to see what I've lost in me." Or something to that effect. Given this, it's an old Irish pub drinking song, and I can see not just the Uaeillan pipes, but even a fiddle (e.g., violin) playing this song. Thus, this song is about maintaining the wonder and awe in life, even as one gets older. In some ways, it's about enjoying the journey of life, and a reminder to not let life get to you. It's also a reason to dance, and to celebrate the fact that we as people live, for as Dr. Richard Dawkins says, "We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born." When I think about that quote, and how it seems as if so many people waste away and become bitter over life, how can one not think about the very fact that we live, that we are alive, and feel the joy in that? So much to the point that we should dance? But now you know about Troy, and what he adds to Nightwish. While I'm not a fan of the Scottish pipes, the pipes of Ireland have always stirred something in my soul -- and whenever I hear them, I think of the Emerald Isle, a place a part of my ancestry comes from. And my heart, if heavy, becomes much lighter. That being said, enjoy Troy playing in Nemo and Last of the Wilds, the next two tracks in the setlist, if you are going in order.
A rundown of the shenanigans going on here...(timestamps for this video): 2:07 Emppu (lead guitar, lead band prankster) goes over to plot the deed with Troy (MULTI-instrumentalist, singer) - playing the Uillian pipes here (a.k.a., Irish bagpipes). He plans on running by Floor at an opportune time and unplugging her in-ears from her control pack on her belt. 2:14 Troy: 'Are you sure you want to do that? She's twice as big as you...regardless, I want no part of it!" 2:23 Emppu decides, 'I'm gonna do it!' pumps his fists in the air...wearing a devilish grin... 4:21 Emppu looks over at Floor...'Not yet!' 5:02 ' Not yet! but zeroing in on the target!' 7:52 Emppu: 'Just about.... if she would just look away for a second!" 7:56 Emppu: "'I'm going' in!" Runs by Floor, does the deed... 7:59 Floor glares at Emppu as he's running to the other end of the stage...Floor looks over at Troy who gives her the...'It's just Emppu doing Emppu things...what are you gonna do...' 8:26 Emppu comes slinking back by Floor who is TOWERING over him and giving him her best, 'Not this time, little man!" look as Emppu gives her his best impish grin.... 8:30 Emppu walks by Troy...'Mission accomplished!'🤣
Great reaction. Song is from the Imaginaerum album, a concept album that tells the story of an old composer who is reminiscing of his youth on his deathbed. In this song the composer is wishing that he could once again experience the powerful and deeply felt emotions of his youth. I am sure you can remember how more dramatic and strongly felt your emotions were as a teenager before you matured into adulthood. Thus the composer want's his tears back, i.e. to be able to cry again when sad things happen and to experience the ecstatic joy when good things happen. If you really want to see Floor dance then you should checkout the 2018 Buenos Aries performance. The crowd serenades Floor with a chant/song before she starts singing and Floor takes her dancing to the next level covering the whole stage. In some shows you see Floor try to get Emppu to dance with her and he usually just gets out of the way. When I saw them in Boston in 2022 as soon as the song starts Emppu moved off the main stage and hung out by Troy. Others have mentioned but you can see at the start of the song Emppu goes over to Troy and starts plotting a trick to play on Floor. Then later as he crosses behind her while Marko is singing he apparently messes with her in ears. Next we see Floor trying to fix whatever Emppu did while looking at Troy. Troy just laughs and nods his head as if to say, Its Emppu. What did you expect!. A short time later Emppu crosses back behind Floor and she turns while towering over him and staring him down. Almost daring him to try it again. Other's have mentioned a number of other songs where Troy and his pipes appear. I will through my support for Last of the Wilds from this same Wacken concert. An instrumental that prominently features Troy and his pipes. There is also a lyrical version of the song that is called Erämaan viimeinen with the lyrics in Finnish. They are sung by the Finnish pop singer Jonsu of the band Indica. One of the few songs Nightwish has with Finnish lyrics. A beautiful song that almost never gets reacted to. Perhaps a double header with Wacken first and then the lyrical version. This is a well done fan video taking the studio version and adding beautiful visuals of Finnish forests and lakes. htttps://th-cam.com/video/rA-XIXy5vw4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MvGypMtkmaEqY-ds. Video has the lyrics in both Finnish and English.
I was wondering what was going on with Emppu and Troy 😆 I noticed Floor laughing and turning around, looking at Emppu! Thank you for the info and the link!
Anyone who hates the bagpipes doesn't understand music. That said, watch the version of this song from the Buenos Aries concert. I promise you will love it. Floor is next level river dancing.
Wow! Absolutely the best reaction I’ve seen of this. Also you’re the first one I’ve seen who noticed the time traveler. Floor got Emppu back for his trick. He hates apple juice and she switched some for his beer one night. Here’s some other stuff I read about her. She’s a cancer survivor. She was seven months pregnant and showing during one concert. (Image what her daughter will be like.) Backstage during one concert she saw Hannes Van Dahl of Sabaton drinking whiskey and asked for some. Then she asked if he would share a cigar. He’s like “A rock goddess who likes whiskey and cigars? I have to marry her.” And they did it. Got married I mean. But that was later. It’s not generally known what else they did that night. (Use your imagination.) Luv ya girlie! (I’m 75 so I can say girlie.) And just so ya know, I’m tired of young hotties lusting after my body alla time so don’t get any ideas.😊
It IS a bagpipe...Uilleann pipes are the Irish variety of bagpipes. Troy plays those, plus flutes and whistles, bouzouki, guitar, and he sings, too. You'll see/hear a lot more from him as you move out of the Wacken 2013 comfort zone.
Yes, he actually does sing with Marko and Floor in this video too! You only observe him singing a couple of brief times, (the camera only really focuses on him when he is playing the pipes and laughing with Empu) and his voice isnt very discernable here, but he is singing. You can see and hear him sing more clearly in the Buenos Aires version. As mentioned elsewhere he sings lead in Harvest, and also The Carpenter in the Buenos Aires concert. That song isn't everyone's cup of tea (I really like it) but he sounds great with Floor in that.
The "Time Traveler" is a Health & Safety worker. There were several others that I saw (I was at this concert) but they weren't visible in the crowd on camera.
Love the way you have your screen set up. We all want to see the performance. You make it feel like your sitting there with us taking this incredible ride.
Awesome! Thank you! I've only had to blur out the video on a couple of artists, due to it getting blocked, but I like my "audience" to be able to enjoy the visuals rather than just looking at a huge screen with me on it 🤣
this is so Irish folky :D and still Nightwish.. I really love the adoption of the celtic/Irish sound in Nightwish songs - Irish Instrumenst are soothing, magical :D
Troy sings on this song too! He sings along with both Marco and Floor! It’s just the camera doesn’t show him! As a musician I can hear the three part harmony clearly. Now with Marco gone, Troy sings all the male parts! Good reaction 🏴
The audience, and the performance, here are nothing compared with the Buenos Aires 2018 version. There's loads of Troy in many concerts but more in later shows. Last of the Wilds in this show will show you more. Song of MySELF is in this same show and is my No 2 NW song. You you can't go wrong with that one. You should branch out from Wacken though. High Hopes is the ultimate Marco showcase... More about the multi-faceted Troy: Troy plays: Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone On the pipes(please learn the setlist): "You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy." Tuomas told me he'd been working on "The Eyes of Sharbat Gula" for a while without really hitting the mark. As I was listening to an early demo I thouht it sounded so intriguingly hypnotic that it really didn't need explanatory lyrics. When I mentioned this to Tuomas he said it had never occurred to him to think it like that. The song became an instrumental although there are some ethereal human voices in the background. TONI: Troy, the other new member, didn't have to jump in as dramatically [as Floor], but he has become an irreplaceable part of this group, too. If there's tension in the air for some reason, Troy casts a spell and magically dispels the bad vibes. EWO: Troy radiates the kind of cheerfulness that we sulky northerners can only dream of, but I guess some of his positive attitude has rubbed off on us, too. TUOMAS on touring with Troy: We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way. Floor changes on her stage clothes and warms up her voice in her dressing room, while we`re warming our fingers in ours. Back in the day, I used to get scared stiff before the show - it was just nauseating, pure horror. It all changed when Troy did some kind of a hypnotic trick to me in Los Angeles in 2012. I really don't know what happened during those twenty minutes, but afterwards, I haven't really panicked before going on slage.
I'll agree with a couple of the other comments, you should really check out the Argentina performance with this song. It's sooo much better, and more fun even. Not that the Wacken version is bad, but compared to the one in Argentina...woof. Keep being awesome, and stay safe.
Mrs. Realistic, just a few quick comments. 1. This is one of my "treadmill songs" at the gym. I'll let you guess why. 2. I actually prefer a different version of this song that has WAY more energy. It's from the 2018 Buenos Aires concert. 3. Troy is that new guy. He's the only native English speaker in the band, since he's British. 4. Troy is quite the multi-instrumentalist. Here he played those pipes, but he also often plays various flutes, and acoustic guitar as well. He also quite often sings backing vocals. 5. My favorite line was when you said, "This is like a metal Riverdance." What a beautiful description. Take care ma'am.
@@MrsRealistic I looove that you hunt the Time Traveler (like I do!) and how you caught him!!! 👍👏 I was shocked because I never saw him on this track (only looked how Floor and Empuu had fun)... You're a very good reactor but the BEST "Time Traveler-Hunter'! 😁😉😋😎
When you observed the time traveler Impuu was plotting with Troy about disconnecting Floors in ear monitor, which he does, towards the end of the song as Impuu comes back across the stage Floor glares daggers at him. She has at times substituted apple juice for his beer, as he hates apple juice.
You know Troy now. What you might not know (I didn't see it in the comments) is that he and Tuomas have a side project, along with the wife of Tuomas, called Auri. A bit lighter and folkier than Nightwish, but still very good (it's Tuomas, after all). Troy is a great person to have in a three-piece band, because he can play so many instruments (including guitars).
In your own time watch the Buenos Aires version of this. Best version. Crowd interaction is fantastic. You are right on the instrument phonetically pronounced ill-eon pipes.
For the good stance upkeep of Emppu:"Vuorinen has a black belt in judo and has won a bronze-medal from Nordic championship of the youth and two gold-medals from Finnish championship of the youth." guess he trains as backstage bouncer, LOL!
Troy has been playing that "new instrument" in a long list of bands for several decades. I remember him playing with his first band U Slosh in my home city of York, England a LONG time ago. He still lives nearby, though originally from Cumbria. Uilleann is pronounced something like 'Illen'. Like Northumbrian pipes, Uilleann pipes have a more mellow sound than the better known loud Scottish pipes. The time traveller? I don't know who he is, but he may even just be a local townsperson, rather than a Nightwish fan. The residents of Wacken, a town in Northern Germany that hosts the festival all get an invite to the shows. About the Spam comments from people pretending to be you. It happens with a LOT of videos on TH-cam. They usually offer some kind of prize as bait. Its best to just ignore them - they're nothing but con men with criminal intentions. And yes, TH-cam don't seem to bother about them.

I think most tall people get tired of it! I know I get tired of people asking how SHORT I am. I'm only 5'1" but you'd think I was a "little person"..."Are you EVEN 5 feet?" Or "What are you, 4'9"?!" LOL!
Troy is an amazing multi instrumentalist, also playing the high and low whistles, guitar, bouzouki and a more prominent backing vocalist now Marko has left.
While wacken is the gold standard for Nightwish concerts this is not even close to the Buenos Aires 2019 concert! Floor is generally called the Valkyrie Queen of the Nightwish army.

Troy became an official member of the band shortly after the Wacken 2013 show as did Floor. Fun fact. At one point, Empu switched off (or lowered the volume) on Floor's in-ear pack, after checking with Troy (who you just met). Funny how she refuses to show her back to him afterwards, towering over him as they both laugh (while playing for 82 thousand people).

One phrase on Floor, Marco&Nightwish: “Perfection never annoys”.
Take care. Kevin
"Neolithic" England? 🤨😁
Thanks for that info! My Dad is English as well...born in Wolverhampton. He moved to Canada when he was 13.
Don't forget he was in Iona for a while too :)
Yes on "High Hopes". The General provides the list to guide people to the best videos for each song. There is no need to feel obligated to go in any particular order as I'm sure he would tell you. In fact, I'm going to go do a superthanks and request that song. Time you got a good listen to Marko's clean voice.
Thanks for that! I am excited to hear it!!
Troy and Floor were asked to be members of Nightwish ,in June 2013 at a festival in Finland but, they only made it public at the start of November 2013,just before the dvd of wacken and the film "imaginaerum"came out.😉
"i wan't my beer's back now" i love The Last Of The Wilds.
You should definitely watch the Buenos Aires version of this to see Floor really dance! 💃
Thanks! I won't do paypal since my bank accounts got hacked through that service a couple of months ago, so I'm taking this way to request Nightwish's "High Hopes" from the 2005 End of an Era DVD instead.
Well thank you none the less! :)
Good reaction with you, I enjoy you every time😘🤘
Thank you! 😁
Thank you!
Thanx Mrs. ❤

Gabriel’s list is great, but at this point just go where your heart will take you. There are no bad choices here. Last of the Wilds is great - all instrumental (and Floor took a costume change break into the Xena outfit).
Oh shoot...now I want to see Xena the warrior princess! LOL!
@@MrsRealistic The short leather skirt with half cape and leather corset…the one she wore in Ghost Love Score! A lot of us call that her Xena The Warrior Princess outfit. There’s more than a slight resemblance there…

I saw a comment about her dress. XENA OUTFIT. YUP now to go even further ad Gabriella to the equasion . And you got Epica with sancta terra ft. Floor.
"I love the way she dances, like you know an Elven Princess". (Perfect! How's this for Floor being like a magical Elven Princes dancing to pipes as her remarkable voice enchants?!)
"The leaves were long, the grass was green,
The hemlock-umbels tall and fair,
And in the glade a light was seen
Of stars in shadow shimmering.
Tinúviel was dancing there
To music of a Pipe unseen,
And light of stars was in her hair,
And in her raiment glimmering.
There Beren came from mountains cold,
And lost he wandered under leaves,
And where the Elven-river rolled
He walked alone and sorrowing.
He peered between the hemlock-leaves
And saw in wonder flowers of gold
Upon her mantle and her sleeves,
And her hair like shadow following.
Enchantment healed his weary feet
That over hills were doomed to roam;
And forth he hastened, strong and fleet,
And grasped at moonbeams glistening.
Through woven woods in Elvenhome
She lightly fled on dancing feet,
And left him lonely still to roam
In the silent forest listening.
He heard there oft the flying sound
Of feet as light as linden-leaves,
Or music welling underground,
In hidden hollows quavering.
Now withered lay the hemlock-sheaves,
And one by one with sighing sound
Whispering fell the beechen leaves
In the wintry woodland wavering.
He sought her ever, wandering far
Where leaves of years were thickly strewn,
By light of moon and ray of star
In frosty heavens shivering.
Her mantle glinted in the moon,
As on a hilltop high and far
She danced, and at her feet was strewn
A mist of silver quivering.
When winter passed, she came again,
And Her Song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water bubbling.
He saw the elven-flowers spring
About her feet, and healed again
He longed by her to dance and sing
Upon the grass untroubling."
J.R.R. Tolkien
From "The Tale of Tinúviel", or (The Song of Beren and Lúthien)
My second daughter is named Lorien... from the Loth Lorien forest in the lord of the rings and I read some of the "lyrics" to this song and knew that was her name before she was even born (or we knew she was a girl)
An Elven-maid there was of old,
A shining star by day:
Her mantle white was hemmed with gold,
Her shoes of silver-grey.
A star was bound upon her brows,
A light was on her hair
As sun upon the golden boughs
In Lórien the fair.
Her hair was long, her limbs were white,
And fair she was and free;
And in the wind she went as light
As leaf of linden-tree.

UK Army popping in to get our tears back... That's Troy our UK multi instrumentalist
👍👍
@Mrs. Realistic: You asked what this song was about, "who they wanted their tears back from."
I personally think it's time.
You are so right! Thank you for this comment!
I want nineties back!! like i heard first...
Every song is a winner!🎸🤘
A rundown of the shenanigans going on here...(timestamps for this video):
2:07 Emppu (lead guitar, lead band prankster) goes over to plot the deed with Troy (MULTI-instrumentalist, singer) - playing the Uillian pipes here (a.k.a., Irish bagpipes). He plans on running by Floor at an opportune time and unplugging her in-ears from her control pack on her belt.
2:14 Troy: 'Are you sure you want to do that? She's twice as big as you...regardless, I want no part of it!"
2:23 Emppu decides, 'I'm gonna do it!' pumps his fists in the air...wearing a devilish grin...
4:21 Emppu looks over at Floor...'Not yet!' 5:02 ' Not yet! but zeroing in on the target!'
7:52 Emppu: 'Just about.... if she would just look away for a second!"
7:56 Emppu: "'I'm going' in!" Runs by Floor, does the deed...
7:59 Floor glares at Emppu as he's running to the other end of the stage...Floor looks over at Troy who gives her the...'It's just Emppu doing Emppu things...what are you gonna do...'
8:26 Emppu comes slinking back by Floor who is TOWERING over him and giving him her best, 'Not this time, little man!" look as Emppu gives her his best impish grin....

Last of the Wilds (Wacken 2013) features more of Troy on both the pipes and a tin whistle.
Aww thank you! Yes, I'm always on the hunt fur the time traveler! I first noticed him in another Wacken video... so I'm now forever looking for him 😆
It IS a bagpipe...Uilleann pipes are the Irish variety of bagpipes.
At a good friend's funeral, his best friend played the last song with bagpipes...
Troy was once asked what he doesn't play..he answered : ice hockey.

More about the multi-faceted Troy:
Troy plays:
Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone
On the pipes(please learn the setlist):
"You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy."
Tuomas told me he'd been working on "The Eyes of Sharbat Gula" for a while without really hitting the mark.
TUOMAS on touring with Troy:
We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way.
The song Last of the Wilds is the next one with Troy and the uilleann pipes… 🏆‼️👍
Thank you! And yes, I can see why it's a treadmill song! I could totally work out to this!

Another fun reaction by you to this amazing concert... and there have been many more since 2013 including Wembley 2015, Tampere 2015, Masters of Rock 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, Hellfest 2022, and the Deichbrand Festival 2022. Troy became an official member of the band shortly after the Wacken 2013 show as did Floor. He plays many instruments including electric guitar (with or without an ebow), acoustic guitar, Uillean Pipes, low whistle, tin whistle. Someone once asked Troy what he couldn't play and he said "Hockey". Thank you. By the way, this link will take you to the highest quality versions of every song from Wacken 2013. Thank you!

I want my tears back means I want to be compensated for all the work I put into this failed relationship.
I can fully understand that sentiment!
In just about any "Scottish" movie (Rob Roy, Braveheart, etc), you will hear the Uilleann pipes being played quite a bit. Here's some background: th-cam.com/video/4MxFsk4sYM4/w-d-xo.html
Really? Instead of bagpipes? I'm sure the Scots would have a thing or two to say about that! 😆
I vote for the Pink Floyd tribute.
Coming up in a few days!
last of the Wilds is great 🙂
Troy can play 12 instruments
Please do Last of the Wild. You will see Troy and only some of what he can do.
Awesome!!
Well Troy can sing well enough compared to me of course, but imho with NW he should stick with instruments
Songs with him singing lead I skip or delete and never listen to unfortunately, especially since Marko left NW
