The first time heard this song, back in 2019, I saw the guy! How could you just stand there and do nothung!
My buddies and I, back in the 1990's, used to go to the Heavy Metal concerts...most were at night, so we showed up in our business suits & we all had shorter hair, but it didn't stop us from head banging! I remember seeing Mega Death, before their first album, then almost 2 hours of Judas Priest!
Metal Concerts are always so good! I do pray that Nightwish will come to Dallas, Houston or Austin Texaa..I would love to see them live!

I’m 52. I’ve been listening to Metal since I was 8 years old (VH 1) and Nightwish is the only band that has ever and continues to get me emotional. No matter how many times I’ve heard these songs, it’s always like the first time.
The talent on stage could not be improved in any form whatsoever. You are definitely not on your own with the "welling of the eyes" when you hear Floor sing. She just brings that out of you. very special person!

Emppu, the guitarist is 5' 3" tall. He also has a black belt in judo. He is a good-will ambassador on stage, always smiling, tossing picks and even sometimes playing pranks on the other musicians. Congratulaltions, by the way, on spotting the "Time Traveler", the guy who kind of stands out in the crowd for being so different. There is an entire story that has been made up about him, but I can't remember it all and, hopefully, someone else can fill you in. Nice reaction, and I look forward to the next.

This wacken concert is legendary but the more recent shows are just as satisfying.
Great reaction! Cool that you spotted the "Time Traveler". Within the Nightwish Army he is called that because he looks so out of place. Hawaian shirt and straw hat in a sea of black and no expression on his face! We figure he has traveled back in time and appeared in the middle of the concert with no clue as to what is going on. This song is from the Imaginaerum album that this tour is in support of. A concept album about a composer on his death bed reminiscing about his youth. Album was recorded with their second singer, Anette Olzon, who Floor replaced mid tour about 10 months before this concert. The band also wrote and filmed a movie of the same name to go along with the album. The movie can be found on YT.
Song is inspired by the 1982 movie The Snowman, an animated Christmas movie that is very popular in Great Britain and Finland. The idea for the music of "Storytime" was born when Tuomas wondered why no-one had made a remake of the film, and wondered what his version of the score to the scene in which "Walking in the Air" plays would sound like. Storytime is his answer to that question. To quote Tuomas,
"How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity."
One of Tuomas's favorite themes for his music is the idea of the loss of imagination and wonder as we grow from childhood to adulthood. When you here the words dead boy in a song he is referring to himself and his loss of that childlike imagination.
The lyrics references several classical pieces of fiction including the character of Peter Pan and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as well as the mythical Gaia who is the spiritual embodiment of Earth and thus life.
Concur that Wacken versions of songs are some of the best although I would go with the Buenos Aries 2018 performance of I Want my Tears Back. Floor does a lot more dancing and the crazy Argentinian fans serenade the band with a chant adapted from the local football (soccer) club.
Ah yes, The Time Traveler also. I speculate his time portal malfunctioned and he ended up in the middle of a concert and culture he doesn't understand. He has to remain as motionless as possible until the portal cycles again and he can get on with his journey. He is obviously not dressed for this time and place.
The Snowman is one of my FAVORITE Christmas movies of all time. It was a fixture in our home from the time my now 24 year old daughter was a toddler... our youngest is 9 and it still makes me emotional to watch it.

I always love watching Jukka play but for some reason even more so in this video!
I don't know if anyone has noticed, or agree with me, but I always think that in the middle part Jukka is actually playing the melody with the drums. Which is so f***ing cool! :)
And he is banging those drums. I mean really slaying them. Like he has entered to and medieval tavern and been told that out in the back there is a dragon that he needs to slay just with his drum sticks. So he goes out and there is this loud, near apocalyptical noise for quite a long time. Then all of the sudden, quiet. The whole tavern hears the door open and Jukka steps back in. His drumsticks have all worn out to be mere toothpicks as he walks to the bar and says: "You didn't say there were 5 of them."
You were talking about the wine rack that Tuomas has in his keyboard stand. There is a great moment between him and Floor, at the concert in Buenos Aires, 2018, between Kinslayer and Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. He hands her his bottle of wine and encourages her to drink up!

You cry at the beauty of perfection. And when it is an emotional NW song you also cry because Thomas has equal perfection in composing your emotions. When you get around to Floor on the Dutch Beste Zangers singers reality show you really see what a generational talent she is. A quick recommendation for that is to find the English captioned versions and start with her first appearance when she does the Vilja-Lied aria for Henk Poort.

I always have been a great fan of female singers, in the 80s, one of my favorite was Kim Wilde. Tarja is one of element that brought me into Nightwish in 1999, but really, Floor is "something" !
Couldn't agree more with I want my tears back from Buenos Aires. It makes me happy every time. I wouls also recommend The Greatest Show on Earth from Wembley 2015 over Tampere that most people suggest. I understand why, but Wembley is a once in a lifetime event, that will never be replicated.

Great NW reaction again Mrs. R. Thank you. - I'm now 65 and have never really been into any bands, not to mention metal music. Then one day I heard and saw Nightwish and Floor and something unexplainable happened. Floor's voice, personality and appearance touched something in me and I was gone. The Valkyrie Goddess captured my soul like so many others into the ranks of her army.
It's not surprising... she is something special to behold!

You have a good sense of observation, since you noticed the "time traveler" in the crowd :) we, the fans, call him that, because he seems so disconnected from the reality around him. I actually thought he came from a future where time travel will be commercially available, as trips to witness historical events - I bet this concert will be a very successful time destination :))

Great Reaction! Floor can go from filling an outdoor festival with her voice to doing a cover of the song Shallow and sing so softly and still have amazing vibrato while doing it.
Not often that you stumble across a reaction channel that is new to you and immediately 'click' with the person :) It doesn't hurt matters at all that you are as impressed as us with our Valkyrie Queen of course :chuckles: Fear not, many of us never cease to be moved to our hearts by Floors voice. I'm a stoic, sixty year old, Englishman, who has been kicked around by life somewhat and Floor brings tears to my eyes often with the transcendent beauty of her singing.

Wacken 2013 is always a good place to start, and yes it was a very special show for Nightwish 82,000 people and they have this fill in singer Floor Jansen. She joined Nightwish in the middle of their world tour, replacing Anette in the United States. Floor was not an official member of Nightwish yet, and had only been performing with them for 10 months when this show happened. Marco the bass player, even introduced her to the crowd just before the 3rd song, She is My Sin. She and Nightwish just slayed this entire show, a few months after this Floor was officially named the new lead singer for Nightwish. She is still the lead singer for Nightwish today, and only getting better, more skilled if you can imagine that being true.

Floor's soul control is unmatched. I have witnessed this live, and although I am a grown ass man, I had tears in my eyes through the whole concert...
Awesome tune , although it is kind of a pop/rockish sound (originally sung by Anette, the second singer of Nightwish), but Floor gave it soooo much POWER !!! Including this "Operatic" part, what was originally done by children's choir because vocal limitations on their second singer (Great singer also, I might add), but Floor has none of that "Limit".
Nightwish lyrics are often a bit interpretive, and not as "straight forward" as many other bands, because Tuomas ( The Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen: founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish.) prefers people to put their own interpretations and life experiences into the lyrics. you connect with songs on a personal level when there is something there that relates to things you have gone/are going through, and you may even find new connections later on in life when you have gone through other big events/emotions. there might be songs you are quite indifferent about (oh, nice song) and then you go through something big and all of a sudden it makes you break down in tears because now you relate to something in the lyrics you didn't before, and see it from a whole new perspective. imagination and life experiences are powerful, and Tuomas has great appreciation of this.

There's a video, (Nightwish' technicians telling about the instruments Nightwish has), where you can see the wine bottle holder: "Nightwish Gear Gods". At 6.50
On the 2 hour Nightwish documentary, "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours", Jukka, the drummer also shows the wine holder. On the same documentary they show Tuomas visiting a Napa Valley wine maker to choose a wine for Nightwish.
During the End of an Era concert (2005), the last concert with the original female lead Tarja, Emppu, the guitarist, goes, runs to Tuomas for wine on two occasions. He keeps on playing while Tuomas pours wine to his mouth straight from the bottle, in the middle of a song, and then Tuomas also takes a sip, of course. Emppu usually drinks beer, Corona.
There is long 20 minute song, "The Greatest Show on Earth", they performed in Tampere Finland 2015. In that video you can see the wine holder, or actually the bottle sticking out. There's a moment, when Tuomas has nothing to play, so he is hiding behind the keyboard stand, but you can see him take a sip and putting the bottle back to the holder.
WARNING: Most Nightwish fans recommend you do not react to this song, performance, too early. I agree. Maybe a dozen more reactions to Nightwish before it's time for TGSOE.

Since then I've seen the band lighting up your face as you take it in. This song brings the joy, and tender heart felt emotion.The innocence and imagination, from stories and precious memories of such a time. Floor conveys this in her body language so perfectly when she sings "Every memory that you hold dear". Nightwish just has the natural ability to convey what they want us to grasp. So here's my theroy on the Time Traveler. (Unimpressed guy you pointed out.
I've spent a LOT of time watching clips with him in them, and I'm pretty sure he was digitally inserted as a joke. He's probably someone on the crew and it really fits with the band's sense of humor to just stick a guy who absolutely doesn't fit with the scenery in there with no comment.
I'm not positive. But I ve looked a LOT. and I'm almost positive it's a still image that never moves.
Well now I have to check every video from that concert 😅
You can see Tuomas’ wine bottle rack in Romanticide but it comes up in other songs on the Wacken concert - and other concerts. He takes time out on tour to visit wineries.
8:02 you can see the open wine bottle neck with white ribbon, next to Tuomas’s bend knee. He takes a sip in some videos. I think in one video, he offered his wine to Floor too, when she was singing next to her.
Fun fact: the name of the tour chosen by Nightwish was “Imaginarium”, but as this name was already taken, bassist Marko came with the idea to change it to “Imaginaerum”

Tuomas is ofcourse a masterfull composer and the whole band are fantastic musicians but, Floor brings something extra besides her singing,it's her moves or presence,as you like, wich makes it even more epic for me.🤘

She was somewhat unexpected if you hadn't heard her previous bands. She was not on the Nightwish ticket when sold. WOA sells out a year in advance. At the time Anette Olzon was the lead singer of NW. When Anette was fired in (Oct? 2012), Floor was asked to finish the tour with NW. Floor captivated us (I was there) with the first song in the set "Dark Chest of Wonders". BTW, of the 15 songs in the set list, one is an instrumental (Floor is backstage changing outfits). The 14 other songs are split between songs originally written with the first singer of NW (Tarja Turunen) and the the second singer (Anette Olzon) - seven each.

The keyboard player is the composer of the music. He is called the Mozart of Metal. In the video Romanticide you can see him drinking from a bottle.

Every time my 4 year granddaughter comes to stay or visit, she says..."Papy, it's time for a story." She has been doing that for 2 years. That's her favorite song. She even has Floor's windmill stance down pat. It's my favorite song of Nightwish also. We both like the Tampere 2015 Storytime performance also. Nightwish - Storytime (Live at Tampere 2015) (4K). Her dress and make up is so different in that version. Check it out in your spare time, no reaction video needed.

Imaginaerum is the concept album / film music for the movie of the same name and it is the tour for it. The movie premiered during the tour. He was probably also the reason for the sudden break with Anette, the second singer.
The song introduces the main character. The film is about his trauma that made him inconsiderate of his surroundings.

Floor was once asked who would win in a fight, her or Empuu. Without hesitation, she replied to Empuu. He has a black belt in judo.
Tumoas doesn't always have a wine stand. Sometimes she just stands on the floor. But this is where it comes in handy. They know what there alcohol limit is. The first bassist didn't know what to do and had to leave.

Fantastic reaction again - whilst it is true that this is probably the best show by anyone ever, and you should definitely do everything from it, its worth mentioning that all their shows are amazing, with different setlists and incredible performances. Its even true that not every performance from Wacken is the definitive version of each song - for instance, the performance of 'I Want My Tears Back ' from Buenos Aires is indisputably better than the Wacken version, awesome though that is. Basically, you should also do the Wembley show, the Tampere show, the Buenos Aires show, the Hellfest show (look for the remastered version) and the Diechbrand show. Theres also other assorted live bits and pieces and of coarse the music videos - should keep us all happy for a while 🤘🙂🤘
