How much more or less reliable is this method of checking the ram memory compared to the memtest86 app

This is less accurate. I’ve had multiple situations where the Windows memory diagnostics show zero errors. Using memtest on bootable usb drive will be much more accurate. When WMD shows errors you can assume your RAM is bad. However if WMD shows no errors and you’re still getting random reboots etc… memtest should always be run.
