If you have a hole in your drywall, get some paint stirring sticks, thicker bigger sticks are better, cut them so they are a few inches larger than the hole you're trying to patch. Slip them behind the hole and hand hold the paint stick until you screw it in place with drywall screws. It'll kinda look like plaster lathes behind the hole. Then cut a piece of drywall big enough to cover the hole. Pop in a few drywall screws to your drywall patch, mud it, sand and paint. You're done! Much easier than replacing a larger section.
