Always amazed at the super friendly people along your journey. The two of you bring a happy attitude and it seems to be contagious. Enjoy the adventure 😁
You guys are finding the best in boating life. Folks who are friendly, helpful, and willing to pass on knowledge. You make me wish I was young and adventurous again...
Ha ha ha. “You got any balls?” Mister you have no idea. Look at the boat they just came in with. Of course you don’t know how far they traveled but still. Good luck guys. We are pulling for you.
Nice to watch you come into Oriental, we kept our boat there for several years before we moved to SouthPort, NC. I know you have probably already learned this lesson but someone once had to teach me too, Always have lines and fenders ready, prior to arrival at a dock. You should also have one person with a "roving fender" if you get too close to another vessel or obstruction you can hold out the fender and get it between the boat and whatever. Y'all are awesome. Your'e probably gone past Southport by now, but if not let me know. I'll take you to dinner if I'm there when you are.
always nice to have a helping hand when docking, there are a lot of good willing people who will help when needed, enjoying you adventure very much, keep them coming
I just admired you both for following your dreams. I look forward to your videos, they're intoxicating. Your "Can Do" attitude makes anything seem possible. Love you guys!
Love this channel. It's a hire wire act. A true life gamble. Tense, suspenseful, yet funny at times too. Plus the commenters: Equal parts encouragement & love, and the know-it-all, finger wagging, head shaking, abject horror at what they are attempting. Can't wait to see what the heck will they do next. Pass the popcorn.
You guys are awesome and have the right idea. Go now and enjoy, the boat will never be 100% ready, so you’ll never leave if you wait for that. Ignore the trolls and continue being chill and taking it slowly!
So far it looks like the Wind God has been good to you when docking. Read up on using spring line attached mid ship as well as using motor to pull stern to dock. Also, prepare your lines and fenders way before hand.
OMG, you two have been blessed with calm weather and a great engine. I am sorry to see you have missed all the fine southern cooking available at stops along the way.
Idiots don't even know to unscrew the breather knob on their fuel tanks, thats why they complain about their engine going slow, stopping and lack of power , every episode
my favorite people to watch while i should be working at 9 am the pleasure of being self employed good luck guys we have been getting so much rain here in SC that my dock a a few neighbors have been damaged by flooding on lake hartwell stay safe out there
As you now know, never come into a dock without your lines ready and fenders out. Also as you must realize your motor is made for very short trips to shore on a small dingy. Not to push a 30 foot cat for hours. Please please buy a motor made to push a barge that big with some degree of reliability. Then learn how to maintain it. Said with love. Also it's SUPER easy to rig your tiller so you don't have to stand and can set a course and do other things while you leave it.
When coming up to docks I usually ask Jess to get those fenders and lines ready and long story short she doesn’t want to so I’m not going to get into another argument about it and just let it be. Setting a course with tiller lock would be useless with this boat. Every second minor input is needed due to wind and currents. It’s like Tokyo drift out there.
@@9to5less Okay that makes perfect sense. A lot of couples argue on boats because it's stressful as you now know. Most of it is blissful but moments of stress test every friendship. You could at least rig the tiller so you can sit and rig a canopy to protect you from wind and sun. Both are brutal on skin and your brain. Google the symptoms of heat stroke. I'm a psychic. Your engine will die at sea. It's only a matter of time. It's sad to see a sailboat with no sail. Or a motorboat with no motor. Or either with no dingy. I'm tempted to buy you a motor myself. Start a fund me page. You should go back for your mast and get at least a main sail rigged. I know -- it all costs money but that little motor is about to quit and you're going pay at least 1000 per hour for vessel assist. Minimum. Or be rescued and have to leave the boat to drift off at sea. Just a matter of time. Have a plan for everything.
as an older man that has spent most life going on adventurers, you will look back on this later and be so glade you did it!! i had an injury and have not gone anywhere fore years!! (this is was a TBI) but i help others set up and start their adventurers!! as i get better i hope to go on more soon!! am trying to learn to film so can have old man adventures on youtube!! stay at it and have fun!!
There is a great Southern restaurant near the dock in Belhaven. It may be closed for the season. Yacht crews doing the ICW plan to overnight in Belhaven so they can eat there. Another must do is Sanitary Fish market in Morehead City. Be sure to check out the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort.
I've never seen anything like it on the Albermarle or Pamlico. Once when I was out fishing with my grandfather as a teenager it was close to this level on the Pamlico Sound but it still had a gentle swell under it. But I've never seen a slick calm like this accept right before a bad thundersquall on the Pamlico River.
Oriental is where I used to sail. They used to have the best restaurants and the town is beautiful. The dragon is awesome. We spent a few New years there. Be safe.
Hey guys be safe and have fun .. Learn from advise and OJT .. In NY now but have a home in Hertford NC so exciting to see the waters that will be my new stomping grounds.. Enjoy your videos.
Been enjoying your videos from the very first one. Our boat has been in the Bahamas since Thanksgiving, but we have a slip in Beaufort NC. Maybe one day we can meet up somewhere. Have a safe trip and keep having fun .
Great for you. Carolyn n I live in Oriental NC and stay on our boat in Pecan Grove Marina. Hope you like our town. I recommend Toucans for dinner and drinks. Tom who owns all that is a great guy. Deatons Yacht Service or Sailcraft yacht service would be a great place to get your boat serviced. Greg n Carolyn Chaney in Oriental NC
Hit me up the next time you are through this area four deep water slips 3 miles from RE Mayo up the bay river enjoy watching your videos looks like you are learning very well. Always remember no one was ever born doing this Perfect the first time.
Definitely “got balls” ! Ha ha ! Too funny. You are near my old stomping grounds. grew up in New Bern and have been all over this area. There is no place like it. Oriental is beautiful and sounds like you are headed to Beaufort next. Wish I was down there to meet you and see this madness in person. Still wishing you guys the best but admittedly concerned.
Whats up Guys !!! You finally Made it !! Yes That Pamlico sounds and Neuse can get really nasty at times, glad it was a smooth ride! I am Not gonna spoil anything, and I am not gonna blow the dragon surprise. I live there in Oriental and sail my 37 ft C&C and race the Etchells as often as possible. It was so cool to meet you and Jess at the bean eavesdropping on your conversion for the interview with the local Town Dock website on your first day there ! :) I have watched every episode since, and often wonder where you are now? do hope all is going well ! Whether its mercury, the lines not in place or a tent in the cabin!:) I commend you and wish you well !! Hope you stop on the way back up north. THE DRAGON IS COMING ! :) John C
Guys a cheap trolling motor and jumper cables to your batteries will allow you to point that boat where you want it for docking, put it on the front and let it steer you in all fenders should be deployed before you get close run to a home depot and get two #5rebar about ten foot long jam it in something and bend a hook on one end and on the other about a foot from the end for a handle that gives you a good boathook to gab piling and docks you can pull the boat then without the engine. Which gives you all the control you need to move in close qaurters
You should have your dock lines and "balls" ready long before you get to the dock. In fact you should have lines attached to all four corners of that boat ready to go. You're eventually going to need them.
As always...great videography....water like glass and the sky reflected back..beautiful. There are good people out there. Sailing folks are helpful because they sometimes need each other to get out of pickles. You're going to get lots of attention. You're sailing a cat.....with no sail. Catamarans are a lot of peoples dream boats. Now....about that dragon...........
Several videos ago when you were on the "Hard" you did an engine oil change. Did you also do a lower gear oil change? If you didn't that may be causing additional engine noise and gear wear. Love the scenery.
You were back quick with this follow up video...Hope your hanging for the Dragons. My curiosity is wondering...You two are awesome..Love having a laugh along with you all...
Still keeping us all on the edges of our seats watching you make your way. I know you're getting all sorts of advice from all over, but the one thing I was taught that has served me well is to always prepare to dock well before you're actually in the thick of it. Get the lines and fenders out while you're out in the open. If possible, talk about your plans, so that Jess knows where you want her to be before you need her there. By thinking it through a bit and talking about which lines should be secured first, you'll reduce the stress level a bit. Sure, things may change, but at least you're starting with a plan. And don't worry, every one of us has had to take a pass or two at a dock before, no shame in that! And like the one person said below, once a crowd starts watching it's even easier to get all rattled. But as you're doing, try to stay calm and stick with it. Each time you do this, you'll learn one or two more helpful things about how to maneuver your boat in tight quarters. Be safe and keep smiling! Your positive attitude is contagious!
Woohoo 2 vids this weekend. Getting closer to finishing trip to Florida woohoo. Make sure and get in touch when close to Florida. Sent message thru messenger to y'all beers n dinner on me when arrive.
Thank god for everyone else helping dock your boat. That was hard to watch, y’all are a crew and need to get it together. Basic way to dock until you’ve learned to mauever your boat better Is to put a person at the front of the boat when pulling up to the dock, toss the line around the pillar then kill the engine and get on the dock to pull the boat in by hand. Have everything out (bumpers, lines and a push pole just in case you get to close to another boat) and in position before you pull into the harbor or marina and y’all will be so much smoother coming in.
Just an idea with the docking. Did you notice that you had more manoeuvrability reversing out than going in? You might want to experiment with reversing in. Obviously the target is much smaller going in than going out... No idea if this would help but it worked for me on my MacGregor 26 with just the outboard (all foils up)
I couldn’t believe it when I saw you already down in Beaufort SC anchored at Lady’s Island a few weeks ago. The other night I noticed that you have no anchor lights and this is extremely dangerous for you and other boaters. Please be safe.
Lucky for them they are traveling in the off season, that's why you are seeing very little boat traffic on the videos. But I agree and didn't even realize that was the case. It's not just dangerous, it's illegal not to have proper nav lights even if just at anchor.
I wonder if a good battery bank and an electric trolling motor would be a good back up propulsion system for you? It seems like it doesn’t take much power to move your catamaran through the water. I knew you made it somehow ( the video got uploaded), but I’ve been holding my breath as you cross those big bodies of water. Luckily you’ve had good weather. Enjoy the journey, Steve
I dont want to pile on....but your motor definitely sounds different over last 2 episodes. Those things only last about 3000 hours, and need service every 100 hours of use. Yours is a beast. I'm secretly jealous of the journey.
How far down the coast are the both of you now? I'm off the ICW in Charleston sc..it would be neat to see yall passing through. And if in need of any supply's we are very convenient to gas and groceries.
Me and my daughter are about to do the exact same thing, only with a CAL 30. If you don't mind me asking, what is your average monthly budget you guys are doing this on? The 'on a budget' part of your channel is what caught my eye to begin with. Me and my daughter are big fans by the way!
@@mattawa2 your right. It is. I just noticed the steam coming out of the exhaust when it was idling. When gave it gas it picked up and started pumping water. I try to change mine every other season.
Oriental is a great little town. I learned to sail cruising boats there probably 30 years ago. There is still a part of me that is baffled by these guys and their POS catamaran. It is really more like raft, and I have these alternating moments of applauding their bravery and gumption vs shrieking at my laptop for them to get some experience and a clue to the seriousness of what they are doing. Maybe they are masking competence and are working this channel as a clever way to become TH-cam stars. But I swear if I hear them discuss getting out of the ditch and going offshore to cut out some time, I’m driving East and will sink that boat!
You guys would benefit from a boat handling course, you've got plenty of balls but knowing how to handle the boat would greatly reduce your anxiety/stress levels.
When the motor starts to act up it may be the fuel. Just dump all of the gas from the fuel container into one of your gas cans and then back into the fuel container except for any water and trash. I have to do this ever so often in my boat. If that Mercury motor makes it to Florida I think the Mercury company should replace it for free. They could not ask for a better advertisement. Good luck
Yes and rig a better steering system. I've been worried about them being caught in high wind or current and that motor not having enough snot to get them out of trouble..
Joel Threatt way to much motor for that boat, 10-20hp is plenty and use a lot less fuel! 2 x10 hp would be perfect but they will need new mounts and a lot of rigging .
Yes the goal now is to make it to Florida safely and then we will have warmer weather to work on it. It was too cold in VA for the epoxy to cure. We’d like to get a new transom and new motors with a steering wheel and remote throttle. Maybe throw a bunch of solar panels on it and some electric motors.
I've binged watched this whole channel but not sure why there is a 2 month plus backup in videos. I want to be a patreon but I dont see you guys respond to any comments and idk if this journey is still going on or not. Also she is hilarious and I cant stop laughing. Idc what the haters say you guys do you.
@@9to5less It has been a fairly mild winter in SW FL. The cold fronts bring temps to the forties on rare occasion but it has been in the thirties at times in north FL. Where are you in GA?
Oh WOW! Do you have any balls? Man if he only knew what you kids were up to he would have known the answer to that one!!!! Having your motor acting up in the middle of that bay must have been really a concern since you have no other means of propulsion! How often do you check/replace the plug/plugs? So far I am Very impressed that it has taken you this fat without any issues(knock on wood). BTW, how is the solar panel doing as a battery for charging all of your hand helds? Hopefully it's doing a good job. the water in that bay looked a little bit cleaning than before and hopefully will get cleaner as you head south.
How many miles per gallon do you get?? Seems like you get real good weather for traveling. Free docks? The launching docks are used for people running business out of them. Tourists are told they can not be used. Every body tells me something different. You guys have alot better luck then i have.
Ok, I think most of us watching this are wondering when you are going to crash, but even for newbies this was pretty poor docking. And this was about as easy as it gets. Put her on the bow with a boat hook, get some dock lines on those forward cleats, and drive in. Everyone came running to help because you guys look clueless, not 9to5less.
They should have been ready when they came around the jetty. They are lucky as hell everyone was willing to do the work for them and tell them what to do. There was no teamwork in that landing whatsoever by the crew of this boat.
I think they did great! That tiller would give you no maneuverability. And if you have noticed, what they do best is recognize that they aren't experienced and listen to those that are willing to help them with useful advice and not criticism that is degrading. Keep it up guys. I'm loving your journey!!
Be VERY cautious when you hit the real ocean, watch the weather forecasts, and ignore the armchair sailors that comment here and have not got the balls to get out and do it themselves. (73 yr old sailor on FBk Tytass Wafflesworth.)
@@UUBrahman Im from the UK so not familiar with the possibilities. I look at google maps while watching their vids but the options are less obvious south of Charleston.
@@johnfoster3286 Intracoastal provides protected water all the way from Charleston to the Florida Keys, so thankfully they won't have to go on the ocean. Me and my daughter are about to do the exact same thing, only with a CAL 30. If you don't mind me asking, what is your average monthly budget you guys are doing this on? The 'on a budget' part of your channel is what caught my eye to begin with.
Me and my daughter are big fans by the way!
did you pack paddles justin case m8s?
I wish I could have rebuilt the carb for you while you were in Virginia... it seems like you guys are having moisture issues w the fuel
that whispering thing at the end is really creepy
I like it
Ocracoke is a cool place.
now im waiting on a dragon!
Man you guys got lucky with water condition.
I think the water pump needs rebuilding. 2stoke engines start to loose power when they heat up.
And they tend to loose power when the fuel filter needs changing.
It's a four stroke I thought
@@mattawa2 your right. It is. I just noticed the steam coming out of the exhaust when it was idling. When gave it gas it picked up and started pumping water. I try to change mine every other season.
Stay for the Dragon. : )
Where in Florida are you guys headed? I’m in Fort Lauderdale doing a refit on my boat.
We’ll sink it first!! Lol
gd job and wlsh you the best
You should name your boat "Clueless"
I think its a cute name.
Dafunk Usay🤔
I think you should rename your channel to nasty comments inc, with comments like that I think it's a fitting name for your channel.
You guys would benefit from a boat handling course, you've got plenty of balls but knowing how to handle the boat would greatly reduce your anxiety/stress levels.
Definitely need some practice on a better boat. That would be nice
guys get that outboard serviced. really ,right now .
Good luck
Thanks for the advice J LUE!! That would be awesome if mercury saw these videos and donated a motor!!
Google maps showed they were in a large body of water they were unprepared for. Versus the small bodies of water they've been unprepared for... ;-)
I have a 75 horse Johnson I will give ya a deal on ;)
They need to take it
Yes and rig a better steering system. I've been worried about them being caught in high wind or current and that motor not having enough snot to get them out of trouble..
hell, the whole thing would fall apart around it, end up like a bugs bunny cartoon...stern and motor only the rest gooooooone.
Joel Threatt way to much motor for that boat, 10-20hp is plenty and use a lot less fuel! 2 x10 hp would be perfect but they will need new mounts and a lot of rigging .
@@CheersWarren Guess you missed the wink
So I started watching right when they got this new boat and stopped working on the house boat. What is the end goal for this boat?
Make it to Florida
Bruce Malo thank you!
Hey much as you advertise mercury motor on your videos they should give you a new motor
I'm guessing Mercury is hoping they don't die with one of their motors on back. They are probably contemplating buying them a Yamaha.
The only issues I can tell they are having a is moisture in their fuel
Yay another video, LOL Not suck yet. 🎹🎹🎹🎹✌😎
My Grandparents have a place 5 min from Oriental
Also try the ice cream place right by you it is great
Bro you have to go to the bean it’s literally the best ice cream place in that harbor
I've binged watched this whole channel but not sure why there is a 2 month plus backup in videos. I want to be a patreon but I dont see you guys respond to any comments and idk if this journey is still going on or not. Also she is hilarious and I cant stop laughing. Idc what the haters say you guys do you.
Are you two married, can I come to your wedding, probably be the best party ever, you guys are awesome
Where are you now? You must be in FL.
Ha! We wish Ed! We have just been hanging out editing a lot and waiting for a weather window to get through Georgia
@@9to5less It has been a fairly mild winter in SW FL. The cold fronts bring temps to the forties on rare occasion but it has been in the thirties at times in north FL. Where are you in GA?
You docked beside what?
I was on that boat last week at the MIAMI Boat show
Make, model..?
I have heard a lot of good things about Oriental. Not too many good things about Mercury.
When adding text to video, use only black & white, San serif, no boxes, no italic, all uppercase.
Put who on the bow?.
They should have been ready when they came around the jetty. They are lucky as hell everyone was willing to do the work for them and tell them what to do. There was no teamwork in that landing whatsoever by the crew of this boat.
@@danielimwalle4783 Shoulda woulda coulda, who cares?, they got there in the end and they can use the experience to do better next time, sheesh.
I think they did great! That tiller would give you no maneuverability. And if you have noticed, what they do best is recognize that they aren't experienced and listen to those that are willing to help them with useful advice and not criticism that is degrading. Keep it up guys. I'm loving your journey!!
Bring on the dragon 🐉😳
200 years from now a random catamaran floats into the harbor. Only a male and female skeleton on board.
This beast probably would still be floating miraculously
Where in Florida are you
Be VERY cautious when you hit the real ocean, watch the weather forecasts, and ignore the armchair sailors that comment here and have not got the balls to get out and do it themselves. (73 yr old sailor on FBk Tytass Wafflesworth.)
I think the plan is to stay on the Intra-coastal Waterway all the way down to Florida.
They were blessed with some of the calmest days I've ever seen on the biggest stretches of water they will have to cross on their journey and I've lived around those waters most of my life.
Yes I worry about y’all with that one small out board motor and y’all be in the middle of no where please get another one for back up
DUDE after 20 years in the Coast Guard I thought I saw it all! Love to watch as you are a complete train wreck! But I love to watch to see what happens next!!! Please stay out of the ocean!
Love your channel man but you guys gotta get a Yamaha or honda
