I've been spending the last 5 days finding good recs for several of these things. This is the first of probably 30 videos with what i was looking for and MORE!! THANK YOU!! MWAH ❤
Thorough, informative and entertaining. I particularly appreciated the information about the bottomless portafilter and the tamper. I’ll probably be adding those to my setup, as I did for items from your previous video.
I suggest going to a real specialty coffee place. I would've said this before too, but now I know that espresso can be made so well that it tastes SWEET and less bitter than most of the regular coffee I've ever had..... crazy stuff honestly. Highly recommend going to a real legit place for it.
So you changed your mind on the wdt tool since your last accessories vid, i see. Can you go through the process of how your mind was changed? That would be really helpful also.
I still don't use one actually, with the Weber Workshops Key so far it's been good enough for me to not invest more time and money in a longer workflow
Came across your channel and loved some of your vids on tips and gear! Question for you, do you know where i can get these ACME cups? Only found them wholesale. (I'm in MTL, you might be too ;))
Great video as always; perfect way to spend my Friday afternoon coffee break. I notice you said you use the Breville basket, have you done much exploration with none-stock baskets?
I have not! I thought about getting a new basket, a new screen, but then upon research many people were saying they didn't see any improvement so I didn't bother
@@GadgetsGearCoffee From what I've read it seems the 58mm breville baskets are a lot better quality than their 53mm baskets, I definitely noticed a benefit when using non-stock 53mm baskets. I've never actually used the stock 58mm baskets, I jumped straight to a VST one so can't really say either. But you're right, I've heard there's very little benefit to swapping out the shower screen.
I just got an IMS basket for my portafilter. The Breville Dual Boiler basket was allowing the steam to come together, but I haven't gotten the IMS dialed in yet. Have you looked at new baskets?
the question I get asked the most haha I have, I read that the improvements were null and that the Breville stock basket was actually really great! The only basket I'd consider getting is the WW Unibasket but I'm not sure if it fits on Breville's non standard 58mm naked portafilter - Lance Hedrick told me it fits his custom BDB and the portafilter that came with it but as its custom.. I'm not sure it translates to the Breville.
Loved the tips Jess - my one “go to” for puck prep is the Edo Twister, rarely gets mentioned and not cheap but it’s really helps my consistency. Not really a fan of WDT nor RDT, but the world would be boring if we all liked the same things eh?
"but the world would be boring if we all liked the same things eh?" you get it :p sometimes comments are so adamant on things so I try to clarify in my video, what works for one person won't necessarily for another dependent on well, everything! I've never heard of the EDO twister, it looks pretty insane though like a propeller for your coffee, I guess it does the same thing as an WDT? I looked at a video about it, I think I'd be annoyed with twisting that thing up but that's me!
@@GadgetsGearCoffee I used to have a Breville Oracle, which had a built-in distributor/tamper and worked really well. The distributor bit was a very similar propeller to the Edo. As you rotate the top the prop slices any clumps and rises through the puck. I then use a Normcore tamper. My Crem One Profiler does the rest, but pressure profiling is yet another rabbit hole…
HELLO OKAY IM JUS GONNA MENTION AGAIN I DEFINITELY THINK THE JUS CUZ WAS WAY MORE CATCHY AND THE INTRO WHERE YOU SAID I AM ALWAYS FIXING THINGS AND UNFORTUNATELY ALWAYS BREAKING THINGS WAS JUST EXTREMELY HILARIOUS 🤣😆🤣😅 ESPECIALLY FOR WHEN SOMEONE THAT JUS FELL INTO THE 🐇 RABBIT HOLE. I MEAN IT JUST MADE PEOPLE LAUGH BECUZ THEY REALIZED THAT THEY FELL INTO THE HOLE 🕳️ AND NEED TO LAUGH ABOUT IT, 😹
thanks for sharing :) do you use it to improve your extraction as well or just cuz you want to keep the shower head clean? I don't have an issue maintaining my screen cleanliness with a brush cleaning it but that's the magic with all of this :) everyone has a different workflow
Yeah - puck screen can help with extraction, but it can be a pain to clean the screen itself and you need to adjust the dose down and grind if you were previously at max basket volume with your dose, so ensuring the screen doesn’t hit the shower screen.
Did you go with the same brand and get their Dezcal for descaling your machine? My friend moved and he gave me his little container of Cafiza tablets and a container the same size as your Cafiza powder of Dezcal
I got it yes but I haven't used it! Prevention is best, I hear the descaling is quite bad for the machine so I use these filters amzn.to/3MFDOXj for my breville dual boiler and to maximize its use th-cam.com/video/DFZLjwhWCh4/w-d-xo.html
@GadgetsGearCoffee well, gravel decided the Bambino plus and Bambino don't get that little black bracket in the bottom of the tank like yours does. There's a whole Forum on Reddit where people are discussing how to use these resin filters. I watched a staged video from the UK where the Bambino plus has the filters so I bought the filter holder from Breville and once I received it I realized there was nowhere to mount it. Right now I'm trying to figure out which other tanks use the same mounting bracket screwed into the bottom of the tank to stick the filter on to. I know the Dual boiler and the Barista Express have unequally spaced screws and it looks like the Barista touch has the same equally spaced three screws holding the bracket in the Bambino plus would but I really don't want to throw $60 at a whole tank unless I'm absolutely certain. I might do it anyway because I really want built-in filtration. Right now I'm just using bottled water but I'm either going to buy a quality pitcher filter or this filter holder and I would really much rather to simplify my life and dumped water in the tank and just change the filter every 3 months like you can. I can't fathom my Breville North America doesn't at least offer the bracket for people to buy as a replacement piece but no matter where I go I can't find a part number. I was even digging around on the Netherlands Rubble site to cross shop and find part numbers for the filter holder and verify the tank has the same part number. The European part number is identical to the North American part number but the North American part number does not include that little black bracket in the bottom of the tank and therefore it seems like an unattainable part. So frustrating! I know it exists, I know other paint on other espresso machines are likely to be using the identical part and I'm even willing to buy the whole tank assembly to cannibalize and steal that little bracket with the gasket to sit the filter holder on and I just don't know which tank to snag!
One problem with a knock drawer is that they get very humid inside. I got one to raise my grinder, and steam would waft up from the pucks as they are full of water and very hot.
oh good to know! my pucks feel generally dry but I don't use a drawer at the moment - I do see there are vents on the drawers. Have you tried keeping the drawer open a bit and then closing it after?
hey Bruce, when I de-listed the last tamper video, I didn't see if you responded to my ask about doing a verification of some espresso facts for an upcoming video or ones I'm unsure of, you seem very knowledgeable in espresso and it's always good to have a second eye! if yes, you can reach me at gadgetsgearcoffee@gmail.com
I think most of the gears produced from china/taiwan/hk so you would be able to find good one with reasonable price from aliexpress. Thanks to you! Quick question on the scale is it water/splash proof?
It def is! It's possible to get water in from the bottom but you'd need to work hard to get water in there. In normal use it's good. I mean most of the world's products are manufactured there lol lots of great coffee brands coming out of Taiwan like zpresso
just took a look, it appears to have a wood center piece? that would explain it - my knock box has a centre rubber piece as well as rubber underneath the knock box - I have some suggestions in the description!

"C'est pas fou" with a perfect French accent! How come!? I am French (living in SF), and was surprised to hear it! Great channel and videos!!! 🤣
here's a little secret, I in fact do speak French 😉
I love your idea for the single dose. I never thought of it. Thx.
Glad it was helpful!
