@@stanbarnes7284 You could do it with duct tape, but the ole #9 seemed to do the trick just as well. Just like when the wifey runs out of nail polish, she'll use a can of rust-o-leum to get the job done.
Somehow, I happened upon an empty thighmaster cardboard box. Had Suzanne Summers demonstrating it's use on the cover. Kept my '80 F100 warm all winter.
Here's one for you. Back in 1978 over Christmas, my wife and I and a friend were driving from Vancouver to a place south of Golden BC in 77 Honda Civc. And it was COLD in the mountains (-25 with no wind chill outside). Going uphill was fine; going down, not so much. Towards the bottom of the big inclines the engine got so cold (from not working) that it was freezing inside the car, literally. I knew what the problem was, but didn't have anything to use as a winterfront, until I spotted our old Rand McNally Giant Road Atlas. So, I ripped off the cover (a light cardboard) and stuffed it in the grill. Problem solved. Bet you can't do that with a GPS. Ha.
Haha that was a good video! I can relate to the cardboard front and actually when I was on my trip from Ontario to Alberta by the time I hit Saskatchewan I think it was down to -35 and my jeeps thermostat was stuck open, so I have a picture of me on the side of the highway in Saskatchewan with cardboard on the grill that I had to rip from my moving boxes in the backseat . I owned an old Mopar muscle car back then, so of course I have written on the cardboard front “Mopar” 😂😂 I had nothing to tie the cardboard to the grill, so I just bent the cardboard and then jumped in the driver seat and drove really fast then pulled over and put the next piece of cardboard and it was so cold the cardboard just stayed put. Thanks for bringing that memory back it was 25 years ago.🍻 P.S I just realized it was 26 years ago today that event took place. That’s pretty cool….
First place I noticed this was in London England. The iconic English black cabs had their grills covered because the cooling systems couldn't cope with 5 celsius.
As a native of Victoria B.C., I’ve never needed a winter front (we’ve still got flowers blooming). Thanks for the gut busting informational tutorial. If I EVER see -10 or colder I’ll consider a twofer before heading out.
Great job. If placed behind the grill, directly in front of the radiator, paper bags will work as well. At according to the Wisconsin Winter Regulation.
Hahaha loved it. I've had MANY winterfronts over the years but it never dawned on me until now that every single one of them was homemade. Thanks for the memories. Stay warm my friend.
Happy New Year Quick! As you get older your standards change. 30 years ago I had diamond plad custom made color matched vinyl weather fronts and bug screens. Now it's a feed bag, Cheerios box, old coat, or reusable shopping bag! Now I'm the old farmer I used to laugh at....
Well, I drive a RAM (my first one was a 1953 Job Rated) but I don't have any of the SWAG. I live in S.E. Arizona so I don't use a winter front either although it was -3C this morning with a 1/2 inch of snow. Laughable by Saskatchewan standards, but for weenie Arizonans it's a freaking crisis 😂. Oh, and the way you stock the beer fridge is stellar. Thanks Q.D.M.!
That’s been done…because “somebody”drank too many beers before installing the winter front. But, “somebody” always carried a pair of needle nose pliers and a can of Watkins ground pepper.
Thank-you 😊 QDM. For taking me back to the days of my youth growing up on the farm. My Dad wasn't so keen on my choice of weatherfronts though. Same as yours except it was an old style Labatt's Blue glass bottle beer case.
I remember my Dad putting a shovel with fire burning on it, he had a diesel Thames Trader lorry and if it went below freezing, it had difficulty starting, this was back in the UK 1960s. My chore was to hang lanterns, filled with paraffin, on the lorry, for overnight street parking, good times.
Good re-use of materials ! Had to do that when the thermostat stuck open on my Buick some years ago. Snow storm 2 hr's from home... Have a great year Q.D. !!
My classic 1987 Bronco came from the factory with 'super engine cooling' - whatever that is. Works great in the summer, but winter temps would result in barely warm air from the heater. I have always had to block the front with cardboard, I just never knew there was a proper term for it. Thanks QD - I learned something today. You have officially raised my IQ level !!
I used cardboard many times. I also had an 86 chev 1/2 ton with a deer hole. (Virginia Whitetail) Haha! Thanks again for keeping us grounded while you entertain us QDM. Hope you and yours have a good 2024.
I love the cardboard winterfront and I know it well, including its adaptations to earlier, and later, Ford pickups and about 3 dozen various models of Ford, GM, and Mopar cars.
Well this is the best thing I have learned since moving to Saskatchewan this summer. Thanks definitely going to see you sometime around. My Chevy needs one of these.
As a young feller growing up in Sask., I learned the craft of winter fronting. My favourite method was the ol' cardboard box flattened and stuck down between the grille and the rad. At the end of winter, when you needed to clean the extra winter clothes out of the truck, you just fold and tuck the box flaps and you got a handy tote. If you really value efficiency, you just leave that box on the floor by the deepfreeze in the mudroom and haul 'er out to the truck the next winter.
Winterfront advice, Quick.. Thanks alot. When that north wind's a'blowing, It keeps things hot. And info on your comedy tour Shows you're a busy man. Happy New Year, Quick! From a longtime fan! ❤🎉🚛🎉❤ P.s. LOVE the Blueball shirt! Oh, hey, Blueball!
I am wearing your touke eh! Keepin' me brains warm as toast. Gave my buddy the other one. Kept the baseball shirt for the summer. Happy New Year to all of you out on the farm, and on the roads in Saskatchewan.
Hey happy New Year! I found that freezing rain works good as well . Great tip on leaving the cans in the fridge.I would drink them all first. Too time consuming before as I would have to sober up before I could header out. All the best in the New Year. Thanks for the comedy and keeping it real....funny!
Yup. Grew up in Manitoba. You found a large cardboard box, trimmed it with a razor knife so it would friction-fit in front of the rad. But don’t forget to cut a hole in the middle so you won’t overheat.
Best winterfront I ever had was an old Boh box, back when Boh boxes were 2x6, unfortunatly it blew off in a windstorm when I was stopped at a corner . . .
Yup loading the fridge was the big takeaway. Built many winter front. Some will slide in a gap between the grill and rad support. Otherwise, I do lean towards bungee cords over the outside grill. Keep up the good advice Dick. Two thumbs-up
How's she goin'? These 'winter fronts' are some handy especially when it's so cold out that you can piss off the back step and the piss freezes before it hits the ground and the ice is still warm. Nice job on the install. Take 'er easy and good luck on your tour!!
Had one made for an fld, had a 2, a 3, and two 4 inch flaps in it. At 0⁰f at 90,000 pounds, 2" open, and completely closed empty, kept her tight about 180-190. That was after replacing the thermostats.
I can’t think of a better excuse to buy a case of beer. Sorry I won’t be able to see you in GP, I will be in Mexico. But thank you so much for coming to our area. From a BC Peace resident.
As kids in the 70's my Dad always put a winterfront on our cars bc they usually were old models and it helped on the long 3 hr trips to Grandma's in the ontario winters.. Thanks for the tutorial. And Happy New Year.😊
As I heard a long time ago .Someone from sask. went to the states . He had a block heater cord hanging out front and folks were asking if his car was electric .Haha .

I had no idea I was putting beer in the fridge wrong all these years. Learn something new every day. 👍
Winterfront Fluid™
I didn't know it went in the fridge??? . It's usually empty before it hits the kitchen.
Or maybe it's Winterfront Deicing Fluid?
1 at a time 🤣
😅
Somewhere out there. Another great Canadian by the name of Red Green is watching with a great deal of pride. 👍
Yes sir red green is in his glory only one thing missing duct tape.
Well you know, if the ladies don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy.
Well you know, if the ladies don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy.
Red Green would’ve used duct tape rather than #9, but definitely would approve of this!

Can't do that with a GPS!
Great video QDM- nothing beats a classic cardboard winter front- roll with them every yr myself
“the deer hole…” that was gold man
Impressive with the 2 4 and use of the packaging!!! Classic SKie color and brew 🔥 🤘 🇨🇦
This reminded me of watching Mr Dressup for grown adults. Just missing Casey and a Finnigan. 😆 🤣
Keep up the good work.
🤣
I was thinking more like The Red Green Show. 😂
😂😂😂
Don't give him ideas. He might just pull out some old socks and slap some googly eyes on them and make some co-hosts.
You’ve got to be precise when inserting your wire above, not in, the deer hole. Best advice so far in 2024.
I wrap my battery in a granny knitted sweater from xmas to keep it warm
how to ensure you get pulled over every weekend in the winter- block your radiator with an empty beer case. your video was fantastic as always
Thanks QD. You and your family have a great 2024!
Haha that was a good video!

Lol
That’s not even freezing😂
Russians have tshirts on and convertible top s down at 5c😂
😂👍 QDM you are absolutely priceless.
Cardboard fronts were very trendy back in the day. Have a gooder!!
All the best for 2024
As a native of Victoria B.C., I’ve never needed a winter front (we’ve still got flowers blooming). Thanks for the gut busting informational tutorial. If I EVER see -10 or colder I’ll consider a twofer before heading out.
Let see your rain gear ha ha ha and your webbed feet😂
Don’t forget the feed sack & tarp strap for the tractor, works in a pinch or all winter! Happy new year from Iowa.
Yup from one farmer to another I watch you all the time and so do all us farmers from alberta .
What a great way to start the day 😂😂😂
"....looks like the toilet bowl after an all you can eat taco buffet..."
Thx QDM, cheers.
Happy New Year to all. Good luck in 2024 everyone.
Awe Buddy this one hits home and also took me down memory lane as it reminded me a lot of Bob and Doug Makenzie
Humming the theme song CoooRooCooCooCOORooCooCOOOOO!!! 😝 🤘🏻 🇨🇦 ❤️
Stay warm my friend.
i would use Saskatchewan sealskin bindings to fasten winter-fronts, they work the best !!!
HA! A beer box is all I've ever used. Sweet!
Then get stopped by the Gestapo and a open liquor search of the truck.
I tried to do this following your instructions. I now have 216 beer in my fridge.
I am in Mexico and no mater where you put it it. It is goood😊

Hey Quick, you forgot to mention to be careful when pushing your #9 wire through the winter front that you don't harpoon your rad.🤓
That’s been done…because “somebody”drank too many beers before installing the winter front. But, “somebody” always carried a pair of needle nose pliers and a can of Watkins ground pepper.
Warning labels are for pussies
Never knew beer could be a tax deduction to make a winter front for my farm truck 😁🍻👍
Happy New Year! No big loss if someone steals that winterfront😊. A trucking friend one day ziptied his jacket to the grill for a quick fix 😅
Thank-you 😊 QDM. For taking me back to the days of my youth growing up on the farm. My Dad wasn't so keen on my choice of
weatherfronts though. Same as yours except it was an old style Labatt's Blue glass bottle beer case.
Hilarious as always.. We have the same reg's as well in Alberta..👍👍Thanks QDM..
👍Yup!
Thank you for your humor. Nothing better than watching a man do what he loves.
You're a riot, man. Happy New Year from Ontario. Big blow movin' in today, eh!
Once again a great instructional video to warm my heart, oh I remember making winter fronts.
Q D thank you for the great update video's keep up the great work ♥️💥💯🇨🇦👍🏻
Good Monday morning. Coffee and QDM. Don't forget feed sacks work as well.
I just put my cardboard front on yesterday . I hate winter. Good show QDM. ❤
Good re-use of materials ! Had to do that when the thermostat stuck open on my Buick some years ago. Snow storm 2 hr's from home... Have a great year Q.D. !!
Thanks for not having those crappy commercials at the beginning that we suffer through.
Happy New Year QDM! All the best to you and yours in 2024!
Awesome Video Quick !!! I love how you reuse the beer boxes.......we just use a old piece of cardboard for our tractors.

I enjoy your easy fix class's I can't wait till I graduate
Happy New Year QDM! Good luck with the Tour. Thanks for the Winterfront video.
I'm down here in Ohio but around here we call them the
"Kentucky shutter". An empty beer box and a tarp strap! Not no fuckin bungee cord either! Lol
Good one QD!! Looks cold out there so you really need a Pilsner wind block!! Nice installation! Have a great week! 😀
Whip it out and stand it up 😂 great way to beat the wind 💨 Pretty neat fridge trick too 😂😂😂
Great tutorial QDM. I use cardboard, sometimes white, with a Bungie cord, on my 99 7.3 L.
I think the lager box colour was closer to Morty. Back to the store for a do-over.
😂lol
Blue is green and green is blue ...got it CHECK!!!! Nice loading of the fridge ... milspec style charging the mag for heavy duty blasting.
I used cardboard many times. I also had an 86 chev 1/2 ton with a deer hole. (Virginia Whitetail) Haha! Thanks again for keeping us grounded while you entertain us QDM. Hope you and yours have a good 2024.
Good Mornin' Quick !! A little brrrrr here in 'Berta this morn ! It's going to be a winter front install for sure 😂 ... have a good week😉
Heading back to Louisiana from Davin, SK. Keep up the good work!
You're an artist quick
Thanks for the arts a crafts lesson
You are a western Canada legend! Love all the videos! Keep er rolling!
I love the cardboard winterfront and I know it well, including its adaptations to earlier, and later, Ford pickups and about 3 dozen various models of Ford, GM, and Mopar cars.
Dick, watching you slide that case of beer in the fridge was magic....
As for putting the Winterfront on, tie wraps are less messing around
Well this is the best thing I have learned since moving to Saskatchewan this summer. Thanks definitely going to see you sometime around. My Chevy needs one of these.
I would’ve thought zip ties were a better choice for the F150, obviously I was wrong, pro move on your part.
Glad to see you are branching out fella! I’m sure you are an excellent farmer but I would bet you’re an even better comedian!!

This video changed my life.. Winter in Saskatchewan has me putting my beer in the fridge to keep it warm!

Im surprised tbat you didnt have a kitchen full of people to help you with your recent purchase.and tell you that you did your winterfront wrong
😂 so Canadian!
As a New Year's resolution, my husband asked me to stop swearing. So listening to you swear is not cheating. 😎😂😂
QD, lost mine in a cross wind. Great stuff thanks.

Hi there watching you put that carton of beer in the fridge I had to pause the video and go and get one myself 🍻 cheers 👍🤠🇦🇺
Awesome…..just awesome
You just put a smile on my face for at least 10 minutes!!
And learned something new how to put beer in the fridge!!
Done that in BC for years as well!!!!!!!!! Great video!!
Always good for a laugh! Thanks Quick!!
HAPPY 2024!!! You ROCK!!!! Stay Safe in your travels!!

Im not so much of a handy man, but jeeze Wire is very helpful! If I am in need of a Winterfront, I am prepared. Thanks!

We use silage plastic on the tractor. Works good for what you need it to do, and there seems to be an endless supply opening up the pile 😂
Great idea haha!

You do Saskatchewan proud.
QDM is the best. Looking forward to more humour and insight in 2024.
Wow, I can't believe I listened to the whole thing... 🙃🤠😺. 👍🎄
Nice clean installation and fridge fill QD!
Great instruction video!
I like the beer box winter front👍👍👍
As kids in the 70's my Dad always put a winterfront on our cars bc they usually were old models and it helped on the long 3 hr trips to Grandma's in the ontario winters..
Thanks for the tutorial. And Happy New Year.😊
I think you should do a tutorial on block heaters and their importance during a Saskatchewan winter!
As I heard a long time ago .Someone from sask. went to the states . He had a block heater cord hanging out front and folks were asking if his car was electric .Haha .
QDM, I purchased one of your toques in November. I love it!
- A fan from the US Midwest.
Awesome! Thank you!
I only had to do this a few times. The first when I was driving through NB at -40. The next time was in Alberta driving through an ice fog. Just put cardboard between the grille and rad on my 87 Jimmy.
