Yeh,but cities figures how to turn something fun into $$$, and woke peeps move on in , expecting snal town experience , without putting in the effort, or respecting the "awake" culture
At the heart of every small rural Canadian town, are the hard-working and too-often nameless volunteers who labour tirelessly to make every community event special. Hats off...to those fine Tuffnell folks featured in this week's video. Many thanks for sharing.
Each one the boys in my family (I’m one of the 4) were raised prepping, pressing, boiling and eating perogies (pierogi)…my Mom’s secret recipe (hardly a secret - cheddar cheese into the mix)… my Dad was better at the curling and the drinking parts. Thanks for rekindling the great memories. I’ll give them a call today. Cheers.
Coming from Quebec,I've had never heard of perogies before...before the one day that I was in a restaurant in Whitehorse(Yukon) and the waitress suggest me to have some perogies,I did,and that was the days that I felt in love with them, and since that memorable day(40 years and counting) I've been eating them in all different ways, plus I've been converting many Quebecers to it,as a matter of fact every year, for the past 12,I've been asked ,if not demanded to bring a potfull of them(boiled with bacon and fried onions served with sour cream...my favorites at the Super-Bowl potluck. I will take perogies over a poutine any day LOL !
Yesterday I helped bury a local friend at the pioneer cemetery. Shovels, smiles, tears and and a few six packs. One thrown in the dirt half way up. Hardly a phone in sight. Now *thats* community.
You did a great job capturing the warmth of the tiny Saskatchewan communities and their people. There is so much charm across the prairies. The people remind me of my hometown.
I have so many great memories of winter in Canada. Outdoor hocky rinks (cold feet), Skiing, toboggining, ice fishing, old Ski-Doo, blowing out the drive once the snow had stooped. oh and my beer would freeze to slush at the campfire. (I only went curling once and had a great time.) Thanks for your videos they always make me :)
That's it, you convinced me to pack up and move the Saskatchewan and take up curling! I got a new hip and knee repaired should be good to go what could possibly go wrong LOL looks like a lot of fun, thanks for the laugh,
That’s what I love bout the show👍 never know what the topic will be, but one things for sure it’s always entertaining and love the highlights of the town and all the people ❤
I grew up in skid mark no where Alberta. We was very classy cuz we had artificial ice for the curling rink and the hockey rink. From January thru March there was either a hockey tournament or a bonspiel every weekend. The concession was run by the ladies auxiliary and they made an absolute killing selling burgers, smokies, chili, pies, cookies, and yes, perogies. That building was the absolute heart of the community. I am grateful beyond words to have grown up in such a place that you literally knew everybody and disagreements were settled in the parking lot then everybody went back inside still friends LOL!
Brings back great memories of curling in Strathcliare , SK. I curled in the mixed league. The community spirit was amazing and after the curling they played a card game called Whist. The Pot luck dinners were the best and when it comes to perogies it's got to be round. Its more efficient. Cheers QDM. That was fun.
I live is a similar sized small community in Alberta. There isn’t a tighter knit non family group of people in the world than small rural community folks. When someone is in need everyone pitches in and helps.
OMFG Quick Dick, you are HILARIOUS! 🤣The talent runs deep in you! My son was a volunteer Firefighter and guess what his nickname was? Frozen Hose Ahh hahaha 😆😅😂🤣🤣🤣
I think I want to move to Tuffnell. Actually, I’m wondering how I spent three years in Waskatenau without ending up at the curling rink. And watching the ice freeze is almost as important as standing around the hole in the road the local guy with the backhoe dug, and commenting on how you would have dug it differently...All the great amusements of small town living. Oh, by the way, round is better.
Greetings from the still dark south Okanagan, thanks for another video QDM. As mentioned, I grew up about as far east of Yorkton as you are west. I am one of less than 250 people who despite being born and raised in Saskatchewan can neither skate nor curl.... I was asked to leave. I need to get written permission from Regina to come back and visit...:)
It was +37 degrees celsius today QDM...I needed a bit of cooling off from Canada...thanks for the Saskatchewan Canadiana update...love from the Philippines
A number of years ago I was out in Coderre, Saskatchewan in October waterfowl hunting. It basically is a little hamlet southwest of Moose Jaw. There was the local hockey rink barn that the locals use to play hockey. I went inside and it was all gravel on the ground and no ice. Being naive and from Ontario I asked a guy in town when do you put the ice in? It is October after all and kids need to play hockey!...He looked and me puzzled and just said, when it gets real cold......Ahhhh, I see!
This is a fun video, reminds me of days living in small-town Saskatchewan.Thank you to all from Tufnell who helped make this video.Great fun takes away for a moment from all the other stuff going on in our country.
The rock's eye view was something we never knew we needed. Fantastic! I always get a kick out of telling folks I had curling in high school gym class. Northern Minnesota small town, so really just Southern Manitoba.
As a young lad we relocated to a small farming community. My new buds were quick to point out the funda "mental" difference between curling and bonspieling.
I lived/grew up in Foam Lake in the late 70's through most of the 80's and hands down, the best bonspiel banquets throughout the area were in Tuffnell. Lots of good memories.
Good morning QDM! And thanks for the Monday morning submission, and some great memories from a time when the curling rink was the center of the winter activities in small town Saskatchewan. Good times, and good friends!
I have curled in those little rinks and it's wonderful. Definitely. I started sweeping with a corn broom and that was a lot of work. Not surprisingly, the beverages after made it all better. Have fun. What a great community!!!
Ahhh, living on the Prairies. The kind of place that many people long for, and some just don't understand, like a certain someone with the initials JT who has a job as a PM. Cheers from Manitoba buddy.
From an Aussie best vid I’ve seen for ages. Cheers! I’m going to make perogies, can’t do curling though, unless I can convince the local ice skating rink. 😂
Oh my! Curling whilst wearing cowboy boots! Based on my own experience, not a very smart thing to do! I was curling at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton in 89, wearing cowboy boots to as my curling foot wear. With a bare boot on one foot and a toe rubber covered boot on the other. Second end, second rock I followed my rock to the hog line and things went dark for 15 minutes. So endeth my skipping career and my curling at the bonspiel! Spent 5 hours in the UofA hospital, 2 sets of head x-rays, 2 stitches on my scalp and a concussion! Funny thing is I cracked the ice , but not my skull, and bled all over the ice and managed to screw up one sheet of ice when the paramedics brought the gurney down the ice to carry me off!
My wife and I just got your signed merchandise and I wore your hat to the Tim Hortons brier cup in london Ontario, I had a cool picture of the best looking couple and me in my new hat at the brier patch. Regina next year I heard., cannot wait till it’s back in this neck of the woods. Thanks again and yes I keep my plow in my own yard sir!
Awesome, I love pierogies!! I grew up in a Polish/Ukrainian neighborhood...we made them...and boiled fried in butter and bacon and yummy 😅...so awesome!!
Grew up in a small town Saskatchewan, live in a hamlet in Saskatchewan. True story: Whilst working, on our lunch breaks we had a TV we could watch. My coworker, whom is from Britain, was watching the Tournament of Hearts with me. Now he started liking hockey but laughed at curling. I explained the game to him and how it was played. Buy the end of the week he demanded take a hour longer lunch to watch the final game! Great under rated game.
I think this is same in all small rural towns. The hockey rink and curling rink. At least in my home town of 250. Don't forget the rodeo grounds (not used since 1992).
Always a good sense of humor that you have qdm..I enjoy some of the slap stick laughs that you reference to during most of your posts..keep em rolling quick dic I look forward to watching your videos they make me laugh and smile for days
This is how community is supposed to be. You don’t get that in a city…
That is for sure!
Yeh,but cities figures how to turn something fun into $$$, and woke peeps move on in , expecting snal town experience , without putting in the effort, or respecting the "awake" culture

"Have another drink, it'll straighten right up." 🤣🤣🤣
I know some that might have that life motto.
Normalcy in this community much needed in all communities! Looks like so much fun, the joking, working together, ease of speaking.
Each one the boys in my family (I’m one of the 4) were raised prepping, pressing, boiling and eating perogies (pierogi)…my Mom’s secret recipe (hardly a secret - cheddar cheese into the mix)… my Dad was better at the curling and the drinking parts. Glad you enjoyed it!
Rural communities like yours demonstrate qualities sadly missed by many of us. Thankyou for the fun!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic. People who have never lived in a small community miss out on a lot of life.

Yesterday I helped bury a local friend at the pioneer cemetery. Shovels, smiles, tears and and a few six packs. One thrown in the dirt half way up. Hardly a phone in sight. Now *thats* community.

Cottage Cheese perogies! I’ll fight anyone who disagrees. Meet me at the bar if you dare. Lol.
Those are pretty good to.
Cottage cheese! 🤮 cheddar and potato number one and I’m from Glendon, home of the largest perogie in the dam universe.
@@truenorth1355 if you like same old boring potato , then go for it. BTW. The statue is actually filled with cottage cheese . True story.
The rock's eye view was something we never knew we needed. Fantastic!
I always get a kick out of telling folks I had curling in high school gym class. Northern Minnesota small town, so really just Southern Manitoba.

Great to see a small town in action ,living the life as it should be ,keeping a community together .
Elevator, Chinese Restaurant, Hotel and Curling Rink. Saskatchewan small town essentials! Thanks QD. As ALWAYS.
Nothing better than a small community curling bonspeil and all the fun that goes with it
Good times are always had at the local curling rink! These kinds of events are staples in a small town!
