On the surface the story appears to be about incredibly bad customer service but I think the story is really about a guy who is simply a good son.

I absolutely agree, he is a wonderful son but I gleaned something else from this....and that is I swear every service desk in Alberta must have watched this and the adaptation of the character is uncanny. 😂

Positive dealership story here - years ago, headed back to my hometown for my grandfather's funeral. Car starts acting up at Wadena. Pull into the dealership there, Quill Plains Chev, can they fix the car? No time. Manager looks at us, all dressed up for the funeral and says "we just took this Lumina on trade, take it and get to the funeral. Way you're dressed, you're not gonna steal it. Just let me know if the Lumina is any good." Back on the road, pull into the yard just as everyone is getting into their vehicles to head into town for said funeral. So, Quill Plains Chev, you guys are all right.

I've had great dealings with Quill Lake Chev in Wadena. I was having continual minor issues whenever I visited and they always got me in and real fast, often no charge

I can almost guarantee that the entire Peavey Mart staff were watching to see if you beat someone to death with that socket.
In our 35+ years of marriage, every time my wife has taken her car in to the dealer to get serviced (usually an oil change) they give her a laundry list of critical parts needing replacement. Of course the parts are outrageously priced and the labor charges ridiculous. Our agreement when she is confronted with this BS is to get the service manager on the phone with me so I can tell him to shove it up his hind parts. Good for you QMD!
My wife took her escape to dealer in stoon for oil change, inspection says it needs rear brake shoes. Wife calls me to see if I can do it at home, smart gal, I pick up shoes, they measure 3/64" diff from one on the car. Said dealership got screamed at
Our local independent shop is the same way ,they always want to turn it into a thousand dollar job.
Yeah its a real bloody shame how some of these places treat women.
You know it's wonderful you do this, I just wish that once in this world that male mechanics would take a flipping no from a female car owner when it comes to car servicing. I feel sorry for women who don't have a partner and get brutally ripped off by these arseholes!

Yorktown Dodge just happens to be straight across from the Peavey Mart in Yorktown. Just FYI.
I have never had the displeasure of owning a Dodge truck but I have had the displeasure of having one as a company truck. The warranty on it was completely useless. One example was the rear wiring harness needed to be replaced, truck less than 1 year old - warranty denied because the truck was driven on gravel roads. Yes who in their right mind and ever drive a truck off the pavement? Well in northern Alberta if you had to stay on paved roads you wouldn’t be able to go very far.
That's a true story, had a 5500 4x4 rock knocked a DPF hose off. was told the same thing. F'en gravel roades!
Yet they advertise it as a truck!? Probably could get them on false advertising…bet you anything the truck drove on dirt in the commercials…do I hear a class action lawsuit? 😂
Warranties are worthless anyway. People say that all the time, about buying new farm equipment OR buying a new vehicle as a primary reason to buy new... "Look at the WARRANTY you're getting, and having ZERO repair costs!" Yeah, til you have a problem and go in and FIND OUT their warranty is pretty much sh!t paper. When I was young and stupid and bought my 02 F-150 in 04 with 29,000 miles on it, like a fool I bought the extended warranty. When I had a problem and got the "that's not covered under warranty" routine and told I'd have to pay $1800 to have it fixed. Drove up in their yard tossed a rope on it and pulled it down the street to another independent shop and got it fixed for $800.
D@mn warranties are worthless. Bout like those "appliance/whole home" warranties they sell on TV all the time. My sister "the genius" got one crowing how cheap they were and EVERYTHING in their house was covered... til their A/C broke down in the middle of summer and they had to sweat it out for over a MONTH before they'd come to fix it, then had to wait another 2 weeks for parts. They ended up buying a window unit and the whole family slept in the one bedroom in the house that was habitable in the 100 degree Texas summer heat... Then their water heater started leaking and that took about 2 months to fix, plus since it was in the attic and "that's extra labor" they STILL ended up having to pay about $800 on the install. When my water heat busted I had a new one in the back of the pickup from Lowe's in about 2 hours and had it installed and fired up 2 hours later... LOL:)

@@terrymorrill6672 maybe, but in my experience it's just like insurance which is a total scam... If you owe a penny it better be there and on time, if they owe you there is NOTHING they won't do to NOT pay or minimize what they'll pay or delay as long as possible. They're ALL crooks in my book!

The Jackass Dealership pulled a similar stunt on me. I bought a vehicle from the dealership and 3 months later I brought the vehicle in for its first oil change I mentioned to them it felt like the back brakes where dragging, sure enough the calipers where sezied up and they wanted $1400 for the repair. Apparently brakes parts weren't apart of the warranty of the said brand new vehicle and that it was my fault cause I didn't use it enough to prevent this from happening. I calmly walked outside and around the corner to the open shop door removed my license plates with a quarter and signed the ownership and walked home. I called the bank and canceled the automatic payment for said vehicle. Never again will I buy brand new.

Yep there was a time "brand new" meant you were getting something GOOD. Oh, sure there was always the usual "lemon" that snuck through now and then... and some fvckery along the way. (When I was in mechanic's school one of my instructors who was a GM certified master tech was telling us when he was a shop manager for Cadillac about one that came in, customer b!tching about a rattling sound, they tried everything they could think of to fix it. You can imagine how Karens that buy a Cadillac and spend all that money buying one are gonna be as a PO'd customer... SO they finally tear the entire fvcking dash out of the car right down to the d@mn firewall... they see a piece of string taped to the bare metal firewall and pull on it, to find the string went down inside the firewall between the two layers of steel welded together, the string had washers tied into it about 2-3 inches apart on this about 8 inch long string with a note taped to the bottom "Ha, ha fvckers!" scrawled on it, obviously by a PO'd assembly line worker who sabotaged the car at the factory as it was being built because of whatever the company or boss had done to screw him over at the time. All that warranty work probably cost the company $5 grand to repair his little "midnight sabotage" down on the assembly line!)
Thing is, this new stuff is SO complex and SO poorly engineered and built that it just doesn't hold up and isn't any more reliable than the older stuff that is maintained anymore, and it's STUPID expensive for this new sh!t... I drive an 02 F-150 for my farm truck, got 355,000 miles on it and the engine is getting tired, and the transmission is on its third rebuild. Does mostly heavy farm hauling pulling hay and cattle 90 miles between farms or 110 miles to the auction barn hauling calves to the sale. My BIL blew the motor in his 04 he bought NEW (because I bought an 02 USED in 04 which was just like his 01 F-150 he had at the time only different color, because he couldn't STAND the idea of me having the same vehicle as he had only a year newer. He got him one of them "Ecoboost" or whatever it is F-150 gassers and he has all kinds of problems all the time, burning up his checkbook at the dealership because he REFUSES to use a non-stealership mechanic. My sister, his wife, had her Ford car cross its eyes and sh!t the bed on a trip to Idaho doing her Masters degree work one time (mostly online but once a year trip up there) and the stealership in Utah told her "it couldn't be fixed" because the electronic/electrical problem was so bad it in it needed a whol new wiring harness, and like a fool she bought whatever they pushed on her rather than going down the block to another dealer and trading it, or God forbid to another mechanic. She's got hers in the shop all the time too with one problem or another... They blow several grand a year on repairs and have at least a half dozen shop trips... I have maybe 1-2 breakdowns a year and usually spend a couple hundred buck in parts, maybe sometimes a grand like when I needed the front ball joints fixed and new tie rods and a full front end alignment when it was done, but that's fairly rare.
ANYWAY, I'm not buying anything new, and h3ll I don't even want anything newer than what I have actually. Thinking about going older for a farm truck-- need a 3/4 or 1 ton since circumstances have changed and need a more powerful truck. Ideally a 92-96 F-350 four door diesel manual transmission... the old Navistar 7.3's were good engines, unlike these modern hand grenade Ford attempts at building a diesel engine since they dropped the 7.3 years ago. Seen and heard WAY too much bad stuff about those; give me one tomorrow I'll trade it for an old 7.3. Seen it firsthand with my nephew's stuff...
I wish SOME company would start building an actual WORK TRUCK again, apart from the big 3 and their overpriced toys, or the overpriced rice rocket toys from the usual suspects in Japan... No way would I ever buy a Japanese truck. I wish International would start building pickups again, and putting Navistar/IH engines in them. Just basic no-frills work trucks, not all the electronic garbage and cowboy-Cadillac crap, just AC and cruise and that's it. Make it a blocky squared off thing like their old S-Series IH trucks on a one ton chassis and call it good. A solid work truck that the urban cowboys and sh!t kickers looking to jack up Daddy's truck wouldn't look twice at, priced so folks could actually buy the d@mn things and WORK with them instead of turning them into overpriced TOYS like the big 3 are building now...

@@lukestrawwalker the neighbours were chopping the roof on a '50 ford 2 dr....as the roof came up a wire was dangling from the upper ,now cut, door pillar.. well, it was long enuff to almost reach the bottom of the pillar and tied to it was a nut with a rolled up piece of paper which read "So you FINALLY FOUND IT"
Some of the worse people we will have to deal with in life, are lawyers, realtors, and car dealers.
Realtors and car dealers are easier to sort out if you go real slow and ask alot questions , the crooked ones want fast and no questions.
@@johnwinnerd8511 Whatever the case may be, they are still a pain in the behind. Nobody should have to put up or deal with dishonest people, it's stressful, and a hassle that only waist time.

I would have turned around after the job was completed and mic dropped the ratchet. But a belt fling probably sent a similar message.
He didn’t want to unnecessarily damage the product he was going to return.
I had my wifes car in for a recall at Fox Chevrolet in Fredericton. Went in fine, they changed the 02 sensors as part of the recall. I got 2km and it threw a code. I called them back and without looking at the car they claim it was the manifold and it would be 542 bucks plus tax. Without seeing or testing the car.
The light went off on its own, it turns out some GM ECUs take a bit of time to realize they have a new O2 sensor.
Jokes on the dealership. I am in the market for a new 1 ton. I will be driving right past this place.

I’ve worked in two different dealerships and now own my own shop. It comes down to certain individuals and their scruples (or lack thereof). I will however say that there are certainly owners that only care about their numbers and filling empty holes with people that are clueless, leading to how you feel. I must say that both of the dealerships where I worked were honest and legitimate.

Come out to the west coast and see what the stealerships do out here. This is normal operating procedure. You handled it like a champ. You are a legend.

I have learned that if you call said dealer before going in and ask for said part and how much they will most likely have 10 in stock thinking you are going to purchase one from them and willing to sell you one not knowing you're outside in parking lot and don't have a option and broke down. Then you hang up walk in let them try to scam you call them on it saying you just talked to said person in parts and from that point they seem to not try to screw with you.
This is the reason they are called "Stealerships."
Last dodge truck I bought new had front end alignment issues, three trips to the dealer to correct this problem but no correction, first it steered to the right ,then to the left, finally it was ok but wore out the inside tread on both front tires. They said I need new tires cause I been driving too hard. Went to local family tire shop. Straighten up my front end problem and discounted me two tires. Never had another issue with that front end. I have bought thirty years worth of tires for two drivers from them, and never bought another dodge anything. that was in ‘85. Yeah they tried to “ram” me.
Thirty years ago I was looking at a Dodge 3/4 Diesel on a Sunday afternoon it was a sharp looking truck. Monday I was coming home from work and there it was on the side of the road with the hood up someone must’ve been test driving it and it broke down.lol

Jackassification has struck all vehicles now days...it will be interesting to see the QDM reaction next time a warranty repair comes up and his mom is told that "no, ma'am your warranty was voided by unauthorized repairs having been performed by other than a legitimate company technician...oh....we have pictures"......

My brother's best friend in high school was a Dodgey Tech for a dealership in the county seat town 15 miles over. He took particular relish with the fvckery that went on, particularly with the "expensive new toy" set. You know the type... go buy a brand spanking new $50,000 truck, drive it off the lot to the "hop up" place across town, and drop another $20,000 grand having to jacked up 4 feet in the air, monster truck tires put on it, stump jumper pans, and a bunch of other aftermarket @sgrabbery parts to make it a fvcking toy... then taking it out to the cousin's farm or woodlot and wringing the p!ss out of it fvcking around until something broke or exploded. Then get it towed back to the dealership for "warranty work". He loved the looks on their faces when they'd come in and he'd give them the quote "oh, you blew the transfer case apart, it's gonna be about $4,500 for a new transfer case and about $3,000 to install it." One @ssclown blew the entire transmission and transfer case out of a brand new one and it was gonna be $17,000 parts and labor to fix it! Then they get the "who cares, it's warrantied!" speech and he was like, "NOPE, sorry but you voided the warranty with all this aftermarket hop-up crap... the reason it blew is because the torque load doubles turning the donkey-kong tires and the driveline angles are all wrong because it's jacked up four feet in the air..." Then they'd always come back with the, "Well, the hop-up place told me it wouldn't void the warranty!" and he'd tell them, "Yeah, they ALWAYS say that to make the sale on 20 grand in hop up toys, but that don't make it so. I suggest you take it up with them-- they can fix it or maybe you can get them to pay for it, otherwise ITS ON YOU!"
They did have issues with some certain vehicles, can't recall which, pickups I think gassers of some variety or other, been too long ago (90's) to recall, but he was working on it and some plug came apart and dropped down into the engine and he was gonna have to tear the head off it to fix it, and all this, and the shop foreman said, "here, I'll show you how to fix that" and he got in, cranked it up, and held it floored til the engine blew up. "Now order a new engine from warranty parts" LOL:) He knew it was a POS and the "standard fix" was BS... so the customer got a new engine under warranty in that one LOL:)
That's why I don't buy new. Old man was foolish enough to buy a 12 Dodgey minivan with the new "Penty-star" engine in it...We inherited it. Thankfully the cylinder head fault from the factory was still under recall and we got new heads on it last year for free... (well I had to pay $800 in parts for the second head since they'd only warranty the bad one, but I didn't want to take any chances while they were in there.) Later! OL J R :)

Top of the morning from the not so sunny south Okanagan sir. Thanks for the cautionary tale, it's beneficial for the general public to know who can be trusted and who cannot. Based on a fair bit of real world experience, including a short stretch working "in the industry in question", I ALWAYS recommend small independent shops to folks.. as in always. Stay well.

I actually google mapped to 249 Hamilton Rd in Yorkton, SK just to confirm suspicions. Not much better in Ontario. Was working out of town and the wife thought she'd get the oil change done at the Dodge dealership on her minivan so I wouldn't have to. Her back brake pads were down to 25% and I was going to replace them myself. They wouldn't let her leave because the vehicle was 'unsafe' and completely hosed her for repair. ...a couple of months later, I hear noise. Upon inspection find brand-new pads installed... on one side only. BTW, new rotors and pads are cheaper off of Amazon than just buying the pads here locally.
This is not a "Jackass" brand phenomena. It happens in all dealerships, regardless of brand. After getting charged $2200 to replace an evaporator 10K over the warranty limit, I went and found myself a good mechanic shop that specializes in "Jackass" trucks and now I take everything there, unless I absolutely know it on warranty. Oil changes are half the price (full synthetic) and they have sensible recommendations on things like fluid changes and when those should be done. Shoutout to County Auto Repair in Strathmore, Alberta!
I had a construction company tell me I needed a new septic system at a cost of 18 grand. Called another place and he unclogged main drain pipe in 20 minutes for free. Been about a year now and system still running as it should.
I am pretty sure if you look up “avoid” in the dictionary you might find a synonym for the name of the jackass truck centre brand. The definition would be: To avoid

I had the same experience with a VW dealers. A coolant tube (BC) not covered under warranty.
Now, I’m in the market for a new vehicle. Doesn’t take much analysis to figure out which dealership NOT to shop at. Thanks for this.

Ya that situation with them is B.S. .... they could order the O.E. part ..... sell you an aftermarket belt.... when the O.E. part comes in , start a repair order and bill everything for parts and labour to that repair order under the service managers name if he is licenced ( or whichever tech they want to ) ..... which in most cases a service depts manager usually is certified ... i say I usually though. .
Koodos to you for making the Peavy Mart point of returning the ratchet , which was valued at 10.99 , and because they have such AMAZING customer service , whether that be for taking returns and customer service in general overall , you showed your appreciation and thanks and bought even more items which amounted to an even higher value that just the 10.99 ratchet .

The bending over part is what we seem to have happen all too often.
Case in point...Ten months ago we had our A/C unit and coil replaced. Something was off, it didn't seem to be working properly but winter came and went and we had the Jackass Co. send someone over to check it out when the weather warmed up! The coil was faulty (leaking) right from the factory so they replaced it! Good stuff! The very next day we received a bill for $632.34. When asked what the bill was for, we were told "Warranty does not include labor!" (Long pause with blinking) I explained quite clearly that I was not paying a nickle for a faulty product to be replaced, to which Jackass Co. rep responded the manufacturer probably wouldn't compensate them either. I mentioned that they were then screwed and sent them my lawyers information should they wish to pursue the issue.
An hour or so later we received another email saying they had moved on and that our business would probably be appreciated elsewhere.
The very next day another email from said Jackass Co. showed up in the form of a survey asking how we would rate our experience with their service!
Don't get me started on an insurance claim!

Needed a hose for my under warranty Ferd truck, one hose was 3 days away, the other was on back order for 2 weeks +, service advisor refused to let a mechanic come out and identify which one I needed to be sure they ordered the right one…told me to book appointment and next booking was a week away, needless to say we had some words……I prefer to let my cheese slide off the cracker in public…I worked hard for my reputation as an ahole 😆

The shop I used to work for in situations like this would often tell person stranded "buy the belt next door, grab a 6 pack, go to the back of the shop and ask for so and so, and they will slap it on for ya" it was great.

Even with just one leg I am sooooo grateful I can do all the repairs that are needed with my ride. It is a good thing he isn't a woman or the price would have doubled. They hate it when I come through the door as I am a well known mechanic and fabricator/machinist in my small town. I don't deal with NAPA as they are USA based so all the $ of profit goes south so I deal with a local fella and his family. so all the profitet stays here eh. This is a tragedy. When I have this kind of thing pop up like needing a battery my guy comes out and installs it no charge just like it should be.
I love Canadians. If it wasn't for all the socialists crap i'd move there in a minute.

Dear QDM, years ago my mother-in-law called me from the same " jackass" dealership. Her heater was not heating. Only blew a little warm air. "Jackass" said that her heater core was plugged and to clean everything out would be $700.00. I said, I'll be right over!" I knew mom had been there in the spring and had the recommended service done which included radiator flush and new coolant. I asked "Jackass" service writer if they had " burped" the air pockets out of the cooling system at the time they filled it and made sure the system was full. I explained the way to check for proper coolant flow was to feel the heater hoses to check for hot water. I also explained that they may have to loosen a hose clamp and crack the hose to remove the air from the system! We watched from the waiting area mezzanine while they felt the hoses, loosened the clamp and cracked the hose. After topping the reservoir off with coolant they proudly exclaimed they were able to fix the problem and the cost would only be $75.00. At this point my patience had evaporated like water on the griddle and I explained that their inability to properly flush and refill the cooling system, which my mom had paid them to do, was not her responsibility. It was explained to me that too much time had passed before she noticed the problem. The coolant was changed in June! When she tried to use the heater it was October. Well, I made my impression of their service department well know, and continue to do so but mom paid them the money to get me out of there! Anyway, "Jackass" is still doing a booming business. Just not from me!

Yup why I HATE new stuff... they do the STUPIDEST fvcking stuff in engineering it. They do that on purpose to SCREW people! I had to pull the whole front bumper off my Dodgey minivan to replace the stupid faded plastic headlights. We buy most of our parts like that online, only go to O'Reilley's for stuff we need "NOW" and screw the stealerships. It's all that way now. I read somewhere on some of the new cars you have to pull the ENTIRE FRONT END OFF just to change the headlight bulbs! It's insane!
We inherited a couple of my folk's Grand Caravans. Usually pretty good vehicles if you keep them maintained and do repairs as needed. The 05 has 335,000 miles on it, and the 12 has 99,900 and change on it. Replaced the front CV shafts and wheel bearings at about 190,000 miles on it in the 05 and got one clattering again, so I ordered a new CV shaft and wheel bearing (might as well replace it too since I'm in there) and the CV shaft from Rock Auto was like $90 bucks and the wheel bearing was $35 bucks... and I buy the "mid range" price stuff, never the cheapest. Well the '12 started making noise in the wheel bearings, scratching and creaking at about 60,000 miles and it was ALL FOUR of them making noise, so I ordered new ones from Rock Auto. The parts for the newer van were about 3-4X the price of the ones for the 05 van... I bought the low end of the mid-range ones for about $135 EACH... over $500 bucks for the four wheel bearings ALONE! The 05 is STILL running the FACTORY rear wheel bearings on it, and the original fronts I replaced lasted to about 180,000-190,000 miles when I swapped them, and I've got about 145,000 miles on the Rock-Auto replacements I installed probably 6 or so years ago. Good thing I do the work myself!
Why I have ZERO interest in new vehicles... let some other fool take the bath on paying 10X more than it's worth, depreciating to nothing, and pay 3-4X as much for parts or 10X the value of the parts and labor at a stealership... LOL:) OL J R :)
I burned a bearing off on my Boler trailer once in Foam lake and the Girl at the Auckland store was super helpful. Your story reminded me of that day. I almost pee my self listening to your story. Thank you for the chuckle

Carbs rule,....I had electronic ignition in my old Scout II....Told my wife that it was a stupid thing to do to a 4X4 'cause of where it would probably fail.....and it did....replaced it with a points distributor from the scrap yard....no more worries, AT ALL ....(Sold the Scout after my son put 500,000 miles on it )
My daughter had the same thing happen to her over her air conditioning in her car. The dealer charged her $3000 (USD) for a new compressor and recharging the system. Yes, $3000!!! Needless to say I came unglued. They took advantage of a woman that didn't know any better.

One of the numerous reasons I will never. ever. buy a vehicle from a dealership again. Made that mistake as a 22 year old. Paid it off, sold it, got something I paid cash for and can diagnose and repair myself. That's that.

I was a GM mechanic, was in the Walmart parking lot in Camrose alberta and seen a woman with a cavalier leaking antifreeze, her and her daughter was a bit over an hour from home, I approached her, I looked it over, thermostat housing gasket leaking, I told her I’d fix it in the parking lot, took her inside she bought a case of Pepsi, razor blade and a cheap ass socket set, I take the thermostat housing gasket off, clean it up, cut out a gasket from the cardboard of the case of Pepsi, put it back together, topped it up with water, sent her on her way. A week later she called the GM dealership I worked at and said it was still running fine and not leaking. Haha!!! One of my proud finest moments when I was an auto mechanic lol.
I bet they kept that old belt, and your vin number, opened a warranty work order, lied about the replacement of the belt to warranty, and got paid to install the belt on your pickup.
Call Dodge and see if there was a warranty belt put on it at another dealership to see if they lied about that to dodge.

Yup... fixed a broken timing belt on a 92 Ford Escort Wagon on the side of the road in Umbarger, Texas one time on a Saturday evening under a sodium light with a pair of pliers I borrowed out of the toolbox on the side of a John Deere 60 tractor parked nearby and a coat hangar I found on the side of the road, and a borrowed tool kit from a guy getting off work that stopped at the liquor store next door to where we sat broken down... luckily we caught a guy at the auto parts in Canyon, TX who was going out through Umbarger to Hereford, TX to a dance and he brought us the belt and the old man paid him cash for it. Put it back together in the dark using a flashlight to set the timing marks and had to bust the plastic timing belt cover with pliers and fish the pieces out with the coat hangar to get the new belt in, but it worked-- we drove 600 miles back home with it the next day! Never bothered replacing the stupid plastic cover-- figured it just kept the belt frying in there scalding hot on the front of the block anyway.
As for the crooks billing for work not done, that's EVERYWHERE... When my old man had cancer I took him down to Houston for a procedure to put in a port for the chemo. Well, he had congestive heart failure and had been sitting up sleeping in a chair for about 5-10 years at that point, and told the doc doing these ports about every 20 minutes all day long "I can't lay down for very long, how long will it take?" This quack was like "You can't lay down, then I can't do the procedure! NEXT!!" and they had about 10 people in the pre-op area like an assembly line and basically he told the nurse "Can't do it" and when she went to throw his paperwork away, he stopped her and signed it like he did it and said "bill it" and went on to the next one... right there in front of God and everybody! Once he moved on she tore Dad's paperwork in half and tossed it in the trashcan under her desk.

I was dropping it off for a oil change and the dealership called me to inform me that they checked it and it needed a wheel alignment.

Yes, I love the Jackass product, lots of power. Dealerships in general, who make literally millions, should have a decency clause in their mission statement. If its under $100 local dollars, its free. After that you pay. That would cover a simple part, tire change etc. Then I would definitely come back for the $???? dollar ball joint job.

Yorkton is a small town and there appears to be only one Peavey Mart. Next door is a Dodge (Ram) dealership. Next to that is a Walmart that probably sells vinegar a incredibly low prices.
I wouldn't have even bought the belt from them at that point.
I would've politely ask for a printout of their "quote" which should have part # written on it. Then phone your favorite auto parts store for availability of the belt.
I'm assuming the dealer was probably charging their price for a non OEM belt. Which is also not right. If they can't take care of a broken belt under their warranty, they don't deserve my money for the part.

Worked in a dealership- stuff like changing a belt- on a cummins took about 2 1/2 mins- was sent out lots to do these jobs fer free - amazing how a bottle of whiskey would end up on the seat of my vehicle by the end of a shift- and a box of donuts in the coffee room !!

I had a brain fart once upon a time too and Owned a new half ton Dodge for 6 months. I hated that truck so much after 6 months I traded it back onto a 1 year older Ford. Never again will I own a Dodge!
That particular companies service section has a nasty habit of doing stuff like that. My ex’s brother quit about a month from his red seal test because he couldn’t take his bosses crap anymore... didn’t help that their dad used to run his own mechanic shop.
Reminds me of the FU-1 fiddy from work... back in Janny-ary, got it towed from the mine site all the way into town. Turns out the transfer case tranferms itself into an assortment of ground up aluminum. Of course it's gotta be ordered. And reordered. And then they had to order it again. 97 days later, and $2k in the hole we finally get it back. Only NOW, the starter is shot from sitting in the snowbank for 3 months in the rustiest part of lobster country. At least it wasn't MY $2k that was spent...
