Great topic! Some of us have a black suit for funerals and other very specific occasions and it's a good idea to look for tips to be able to use it more, in other occasions. I would say that the most important is to avoid plain white shirts an black ties, precisely to avoid being confused with the barman , the security agent, or being mistaken for someone coming out of a funeral. Shirts with elegant patterns and pocket squares can help to put some interest in the outfit. If possible, I would avoid a standard silk tie and put a grenadine, knitted or linen tie.

Great call out! Maybe I'll work on a follow-up video just focused on that. Appreciate it!

I would only use a black suit if I was a rockstar and even then it would be casual corduroy with boots. You can use charcoal suit with black tie and shoes for funerals. Never wear a suit in black tie events. Tux is rentable really cheap.

Thanks for the comment! Agreed that a dark gray suit is a lot more versatile and good call on renting a tux for black tie.

What do you think about padded/padded pleated shoulders on a black suit?

Thanks for watching and great question! When I was creating this video, I was thinking about guys who are likely only buying one black suit.
In that case, as an American (I realize British and Italians would have a different opinion), I would go for natural fit or gentle padding to be more classic and versatile. That said, a padded shoulder certainly has its place and can give some great proportions, esp for formal wear.

Curious what other guy’s thoughts are on this!

A black suit is to be worn with wayfarers, a trilby hat and a 1974 dodge monaco.
Half a pack of cigarettes and a brief case are optional.

May I disagree? No one needs a black suit, except for black/white tie events. Anyone has been to one?!! Dark navy or charcoal ones easily replace a black suit and far more versatile.
Accessories? I would mention first belt or watch. Tie is the very last bit, if ever part of the outfit.
    Cool channel. 👍
PS: Tom Ford can wear a black suit every day because he's special. His very dark hair and fair skin also help his black suit - white shirt combo..

Thanks for watching, that's an excellent point. I should have worded that line differently - appreciate the feedback and I'll keep those points in mind for future videos.
Yup, Tom Ford's the exception that proves the rule, and looks sharp doing it.

Great question! The devil is in the details - just making sure your suit fits you well and is good material already will help a lot. You can also add some color with your shirt, tie or pocketsquare. Accessories like cufflinks or a watch can also make it feel more personal and less like a uniform. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

@@dapperconfidential I am studying law and often has to wear black suits as a uniform code occassionally so what should I do different to look like The Guy in crowd. I mean cufflinks and pocket squares are out of the question here and please also tell me what would be better small tie or big tie ?
