      I'm thinking of getting one as a daily driver and keeping my alfa for the weekends. Am I going mad? 140+ on the clock. Cambelt was done at 80k. Anything I should keep an eye out for specifically?

    Great video Barrie and appreciate it. Just purchased one from an Autotrader dealer. A 2013 for just under £3.5K and it's being delivered in a few days after a valet, service and fresh MOT. It's basically for me and the dog/s and for a trip up to God's country this year and tour the East cost (Scotland). Can't wait to drive it but found your video and many thanks, stay safe young man.

    Good luck with the upcoming semi retirement Barrie. You've obviously worked very hard achieved a lot and deserve your success! You seem a really genuine guy too from watching your videos and chatting on you tube comments, a great example to younger people in the motor trade! Will you be continuing with the you tube car videos in your semi retirement?

    Fuel economy is impressive for a 1.5 litre although nowhere near claimed figures here, more like low sixties combined. What are the buttons marked "R" and "O" on the steering wheel for ?

    I bought a 2011 Renault Mégane Grandtour, with the 1.5 dCi 110hp, on 2019.
    The advantage of the 2011 is: no Start&Stop (cheaper maintenance), no TPMS, no GPS, no EPB (Electronic Parking Brake), but with many extras - as it is the Luxe edition.
    I am really happy with the car, in both comfort and fuel economy.
    This car is really unappreciated!
    Fortunately for me 😎

      I'm thinking of buying exactly the same as you. You still recommend?

    • @hitardo
      @hitardo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jimbotcg7811 Yes, I do recommend.
      The only advice I gave you is:
      Do maintenance right after buying it, and do it either every year, or every 10.000 km.
      This means that you will do the maintenance before what the OEM recommends.
      Always place new:
      - Oil
      - Oil filter
      - (Engine) Air filter
      - Fuel filter
      I prefer Purflux, but you can choose another good brand.
      When buying the car, choose a well taken care of.
      This can be seen by how clean the interior is, namely the back; but also the amount of scratches it has on the surfaces of the interior - which a detail will not hide.
      Moreover, having proof of maintenance is a plus.

      @@jimbotcg7811 I am not able to give you an estimate, due to two main reasons:
      a) I live in Portugal, where the labour is cheaper than in the UK
      b) My father is a mechanic, and it is me and him (mainly him) that do the maintenance.
      This is why I can easily choose the brands of my filters, and see each maintenance procedure.

    Notice you knock cars to neutral at speed and coast or brake hard ........ bad habit that Barrie.

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Actually i coast, but i dont brake hard, let drag slow me down rather than wearing my gearbox, drivetrain brakes, and discs out, BMW have invented a gearbox which does the same, Ive been doing it for years 😎 you’re welcome !

    • @davepage1151
      @davepage1151 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Barrie, that’s not the way you’re ‘supposed’ to do it as it’s not as controlled as using gearing and engine braking to slow you down. You can fail your driving test for coasting as it’s not in full control of vehicle. Not as economical either as coasting/out of gear you’re using fuel to idle the engine as you’ve removed the connection to the drivetrain whereas in gear the drivetrain is turning the engine (engine braking) and not injecting any fuel (up to a point where the ECU will if the revs go below a certain level - depending on car). Using the engine to help slow you down with the brakes will cause less wear on the brakes as they’re not doing all the work either. You’re welcome 😇
      Nice clean car that BTW - you’d never think it had done that mileage from your video.

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave Page i think you will find that you are wrong, you may fail your driving test, but no doubt when everyone realises that you are turning forward momentum into heat and Greta Thunderberg comes round to your house to give you a rollocking for contributing to Global Warming you lot will catch on too 😂 soon it will be illegal to use your brakes unless its an emergency

    • @davepage1151
      @davepage1151 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haven’t you just confirmed my point there Barrie? You use less fuel by NOT coasting because when you coast you use fuel to keep the engine idling (as you’ve disconnected engine, so it needs fuel to turn it) - then you use your brakes harder to slow down compared to being in gear because you’ve not got engine braking assistance. If you just coast - you will slow down less (coast) and have to brake harder (which generates braking heat and more wear on discs and pads - potentially reducing efficiency through overheating which is also why it’s a potential failure on a test).

    • @BarrieCrampton
      @BarrieCrampton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave Page no, i use wind resistance/ drag to slow down as much as possible, when you coast the engine drops to idling speed rather than carrying on being driven at 3000 revs or whatever, therefor a car that has done 60,000 miles with some one who engine brakes has actually worked harder or effectively has more miles on the clock than a car driven by someone like me, also there is extra strain on clutch, driveshafts, bushes, propshaft, tyres, engine mountings etc etc, imagine how much fuel it takes to make replacement components, and all the materials that are needlessly thrown away, also if you use your brakes, they are a lot cheaper to replace and a lot easier also, id go into more detail but I’m just at work at the moment 😎

  • @rafordy

    Having had to drive the exact same car as this for 18 months , I can honestly say that this is one of the worse cars on sale in UK, and has nothing going for it.
    if you have this car on your forecourt pepole will walk staright by and think that you are a budget car lot. I have seen you market some really nice car, but you are flogging a dead horse with this one.
    This is saying all the wrong things about your company.
