This is so helpful. We have a travel blog and I have struggled for years to try to use maps on our site. Thanks to your excellent video, I am now able to really put Google Maps to good use. The the audio is so good and no echos what did you use for screen capture and audio recording?

Want to create road trip map for us to use whilst on our journey and add photos in when we arrive at a certain destination . I would like for my elderly father to be able to follow our journey and see where we are at any one time and also the photos . Is there a way to do that?

Do you happen to know if there is a way, once you have made a custom map/route, viewing that route from the 'little orange man' view, but without having to click click, click, along a route to see what roads you are taking?
I'm trying to plan a few motorcycle routes based on the automation of an app I use called CALIMOTO, but have the ability to manipulate that route once it has been plotted by the app. It would be nice to be able to view that route as a video without having to physcially click down each road to see if how scenic it might/might not be compared to an alternative route?

He didn't explain he is a Google Employee and only google employees can create maps. BTW there is no such thing as "MY MAPS" it's just maps

Thank you! What i am searching for for now, is how to change language on MyMap to be X, which would not be English or whatever local language Google thinks should be applied in a country. I don't want to change language to be changed for all my maps, just this specific project i am working on.

For instance, Blue guy can make a blue map and Red girl can make a red map and so on. :)

Nice video. One thing the drives me crazy about mymaps is there is no scale displayed. Any idea how to get the scale to show? I have searched in vain for the answer.

9:55 What I struggle with is, when I draw a driving route, how do can view my driving distance? Otherwise, I don't see the point of doing the whole exercise when I am planning my road trip with this tool. Is it possible to actually see km distance between 2 and more waypoints?

Darn, I was hoping I could create my own world maps. Like a fantasy world that doesn't already exist. I mainly just wanted a blueprint of long and lat on a map I could then draw on or something to make sure that land masses connect properly if they had to be cut by end of a rectangular map and still make sense if converted to a spherical map like a globe... hmm
I don't like the way the marker works on the actual map. When the marker is clicked, it just shows the details on the left side. Is there a way to customize those markers in a way that it shows the same behavior like in editing mode where when you hover on the markers, the details, pictures or video shows on a pop-up.

is there a way to turn off Google's automatically choosing the expressway when traveling within the city? Using the expressway in the city is expensive in Tokyo. Hard to believe they wouldn't know that. i think users should be given the chance to choose whether or not they want to pay road tolls.
Hi thanks for this, is it possible to do lines in order of where you travelled on your trip? I could do it but it wouldnt save the lines?
When you add a line, click "add driving route." There is a learning curve to adding the routes, but seems like this is what you want. When you add a route, it will want to follow the shortest path, but after adding the route, you can hover your mouse on the line and drag the white dot to make deviations. Sometimes the map will reset and remove your dots. Haven't figured out why this happens.

This is very helpful. I have created a map of hotels in Memphis. I would like to take a screen shot of the map to include in a presentation. I also want to zoom in as far as I can, but still include each of the hotels I've mapped. However, Google has a lot of search bars, logos, and other images that partly obscure areas of my map. Is there a way to hide all (or some) of these images, such as the Google Search bar at the top left or the Google My Maps logo at the bottom, just so I can get a couple extra inches of viewable map space? Thanks for your tips!
Since you claimed that you somehow created a map, then that means you're a google employee because only google employees have the create a map option. Maybe you can pass this along to the morons there: I'd post this in the community but I'm not a Google so I can't post in there either as only Google Employees can create a topic there.
1. Stop using the phrase MY MAPS because there is no such thing. The correct word is just MAPS which is found buried in the 9 dots on the upper right side of the screen. That maps option is the same as typing "Google maps" into Google
2. There is absolutely 100% no such thing as CREATE NEW MAP for anyone that isn't a Google Employee
3. There is only one color and type pf pin (A red upside down teardrop shape)
4. A pin can only be on the map as long as the place the pin is for is typed into the search bar on the map
5. Only 1 custom red teardrop pin can be on the map, adding another pin, removes the previous pin
Hi, I have created my own maps on 7 layers, i saved more than 1600 places in Istanbul City (Resturants, Transports, Landmarks, Markets, and more) with descriptions and informations.

I am importing excel data by state into google maps.
For some reason I get an error saying 20 of the 42 states on the list can't be added because of errors.
It says to open the data table to fix the errors.
However, when I open the data table, all the state entries are correct.
Changing abbreviation to the state name doesn't work, because it defaults the state of Georgia to the country of Georgia.
Clicking on the red triangle doesn't help, because t doesn't give any information.
Can i do something to only show cities name in my maps? I dont want neighborhood, states and other stuff, i just want cities names in my map
How can I drop a pin on my current location? Seems like a simple thing, but I see no way to do that in Google Maps (it's easy in other mapping apps).

Basically, I often look for cell phone repair stores to buy their broken screens. However, I find the color'ed marker in my map very useful to distinguish between stores that I am already doing business with or ones I have not visited yet(or even prospects I am talking to). I still want to have the ability to search for repair shops like google map, but I want the colored marker function from my map. Is there a way for me to do it?
