I think it misses a lot from Sygic Travel, where you can plan with time schedule and can move pins if it take too much, but paying.
For free, is having a lot

Hi from the UK. I am brand new to Google My Maps. I just sat through 2 other overcomplicated TH-cam tutorials on GoogleMyMaps and was just about to have a long break in frustration when I came across your video and I was just like yes! thank you! The 2 other tutorials couldn't even explain what layers were clearly and you just got straight to the point and explained it all clearly. Yippeee! I have started my first map.

Thank You so much for this tutorial on a part of Google Maps I never knew about. I used standard Google Maps to plan our 2020 (cancelled) road trip. Its re-planned for 2023 and I will be using My Maps for our 35 day trip (estimate 2500 - 3500 miles). Its our 5th/6th ?? road trip starting 1994 with a Rand McNally Map. That was our bible till 2018 when we bought a US Sat Nav (We are Brits) which got us through 9 States from Vegas to S.Dakota. Your tutorial will allow us to plan our longest trip yet - NC, SC, GA, Ala, Miss, La, Tx, Ark, Tenn, SC, NC - a huge loop. We will now not miss as many 'Places of Interert' as we did in 2018. Trawling through State Tourist Info on the web or on paper just takes to long during the trips. Again - thank you so much.

Thanks for the info about route planning with google maps. An added bonus is that you are an RVer! My wife and I lived in our motorhome for 10 years, Workamped during the summer and traveled during the winter (to warmer climates)...We have been stationary for the last 10 years but still have the Gypsy spirit in us. I am planning a trip for a friend, driving her from Texas to New Hampshire via a wedding in Virginia and was looking for a tool to giver her an estimate of cost and time, this seems like a useful tool. We, wife and I, just completed a trip NH - CA and back with our newly acquired Electric Vehicle (EV) - a fun experience (can't be in a hurry though). While I use several other tools to identify the details of charging stations, it seems like this planner may be helpful for macro views. We did make extensive use of google maps for real-time GPS guidance. Anyway - Thanks for your clear explinations

Many thanks. I'm a long-time G-Maps user but didn't know of My Maps. I immediately tried it using the Chrome browser on my tablet and quickly discovered that it is difficult/impossible when using my finger as a mouse. A PC with mouse and keyboard seems to be the best (only?) way to use My Maps. Thanks again.

Clear and to the point tutorial. Specifically liked layers with accommodations, sightseeing and friends&family separated and color-coded. Turning itinerary into a navigation on mobile device is still a mundane task but at least some solution.
My moto trip planning before this tutorial was based on putting next gas station. And big problem was Google's limit of 10 points.
Now with separate layers for gas and supply shopping places it can and will be done the easy way.
    Big thanks to Amber! Subscribed!

Thanks for the tutorial on My Maps Amber! It is an invaluable help and will be at the heart of my wife and my 5-week tour of Europe starting in early December 2023. It's a mystery but I could not find how to get off first base as regardless of what device or Google account I used I could not find "Your Places" in the drop-down menu for Google Maps. I was about to give up when I stumbled on My Maps where things suddenly looked like your screen, and I was off and running. I still don't have "Your Places" in my menu but I get to my map via a link to "My Maps". Another mystery, but this time with a great outcome, is that in addition to my Windows 10 desktop where I do all my input for the trip on My Maps, I can access my trip on my Motorola Android smartphone and Lenovo Chromebook via the synchronized bookmarks. I was dreading your bit at the end of your tutorial about how to make this work on other devices so it was a relief then it just worked. Thank you again and keep up the great posts. You appear to be a great inspiration for many people. You certainly are for me!

Thanks for explaining how to USE My Maps! I put in a lot of time developing my route but was frustrated that I couldn't just follow the route. Your solution isn't perfect, but it is AN answer to how I can use the route... 1 step at a time. Frustrating that I manually moved the road that Google chose for me so I could stay along the coast, but I'll just do that on my own. THANKS!

Thanks. Ive been using mymaps recently and just looking for ideas on how to enhance how I'm using it. Good to get your ideas. I use the layers for the different days or locations, but considering the way you do it by type and might re-organize. I also color by location, and I'm definitely going to change that to type. One question I still have is if I can re-organize the layers in the sorting priority I want, that you didn't mention. Good video - thanks!

Thank you for the detailed overview. I managed to figure a lot of this out but came to this video to see how to use the "directions" tool on mobile.
This is a massive oversight by Google. Seriously what's the point of doing a custome driving route with out being able to hit "start" and it populate on mobile ?
    Just to see distance? Wow.
I tried using this feature while in Hawaii as we had 10 destinations along one road. I had to manually input each one because I couldn't figure out how to hit start on the directions layer. Ugh

Just found your TH-cam channel and found this tutorial very helpful. Subscribed and turned notifications on. Looking forward to more content and need to explore your past work going forward.
I like to plan very specific scenic routes (rather than automatic routing that Google uses). So the fact that Google MyMaps cannot transfer the detailed and preplanned routes to an iPhone is disappointing. Simply setting the destinations on the phone and then asking for directions will not replicate a specific scenic route that may have been otherwise planned, unless waypoints for every major route decision is created. Do you know of anyway to get a specific route transferred to the phone so it can then be used with CarPlay. Or are stored waypoints the only option?

What a great video. I like to track my trips so this will be a good way to keep a log of our route, what we did and where we stayed. How do you get the specific Byways in there?
