I think it may acctualy make sense to keep the mechanicaly connected halfs of the helmet for ease of upgrade and repair.

@dimitrilitovsk2372 I don't think it is likely unless they have patented the actual suit in real life. In copyright law there is something called a transformative medium. Basically if you draw a stick man but I make that in real life you can't sue me because I have transformed the medium. Also Halloween costumes, and cosplay costumes would be under immediate suspicion if such a case happened

A layer of aramid or Kevlar between the titanium shell and the frame to prevent armor spalling might be a good idea. I know it won't be subject ballistic tests, but you are going for realism.
Or ceramic plates like tank armor! Seriously these small ideas are what we need to push the project even further. Eventually more features can me tested and successfully implemented
Ceramic plate are way too heavy for a helmet.
@@EnlightenedSavage Exoskeleton then with neck and head actuators, they double as protection to prevent your head/neck from moving in any direction that is obviously fatal.
You are definitely on the right track. Aramid fibers are used in helmets. A UHWDPE neck collar would be an excellent addition as well to prevent spall forming traveling into the neck.

I really don't think people understand exactly how much R&D and work goes into something like this. From sketches, to CAD, to manufacturing, back to CAD when something doesnt work, over and over until its done.

My man, your video basically just showed me how i can remedy my problems as i'm making the same thing but for a 40K Space Marine suit, and by the gods your work is truly amazing and possibly required some sleepless night when you had suddenly a bright idea whilst in light sleep and needed to write it down to not lose it.

I'd like to see the ODST armor come into play and I think you'd benefit from some actual military imput from guys who've actually had to use gear and how to make it practical
Mass production? MJOLNIR suit? Gloves? Spartan II Program? Yes? Please?
I feel like the helmet should be designed to be at least partially disassembled for maintenance. With all the systems in it, I would expect them to get damaged and potentially fail under combat stress, from the shock of bullet impacts and explosions. With how expensive a version 2 of the helmet would be, having a viable way to open it and do repairs could be vital.
Anyway, awsome job to you and everyone involved. This feels very much like a protoype, but if anything, prototypes proove that it is possible, the mk1 Iron Man suit was bulky and clunky but when Stark got out of that cave in it, the red and yellow suit we all know and love was bound to happen. This helmet is the mk1 of a real mjolnir armor.

This is breathtaking. Do you plan on doing tests of the frame's viability as practical armour? (obviously without the electronics within it.) I have always been curious how effective the helmet would be as protection. Though I completely understand if you are unwilling to attempt to destroy something like this.
Probably the better route would be to just take plates of the different materials in their different thickness and test them, rather than manufacturing an entire extra armored shell.
Could come to the States and make a collaboration with Garand Thumb or Demolition Ranch - which would serve the added bonus of sharing his project with an even wider audience.
@@thomasbrand2650 I'd say if we really wanna test it's viability you kinda need to reproduce the entire shell, that way you can see if it is really good at deflecting from certain angles, if there are any weak spots due to how the shell is structured or other possible outcomes that might not be strictly related to the thickness of the helmet at any given place
A lot can be learned from military helmets, motorcycle helmets etc! If the community gets behind it more then all of it can be done
I will say it's likely the helmet could be made to be bulletproof but the weight would likely increase by 50-100% depending on whether you want to stop just pistol rounds, which can be done with soft armor like kevlar, or if you want to stop immediate and/or full sized rifle rounds (5.56x45 and 7.62x51 respectively), which requires steel or ceramic. There's also the problem of the impact. The bullet might not penetrate but your head would be given one hell of a knock. Basically, imagine smashing your forehead into a wooden desk as hard as you can. Now double that and you're coming close to the probably feel of being shot in a truly bulletproof helmet. There are shock absorbing pads you can put in to soften the impact (they're also used in bulletproof vests) but it'll still rattle you good.
So in short, it'd probably work but it'd be really heavy and it'd still injure you. Better than being domed I guess.

It needs to be connected to a frame/suit underneath/at the neck level, to transfer force and brace against too-high displacement of the head (create rigidity), and 2. it needs to be able to "lock", based on a calculated and recognized impending impact, allowing for freedom of motion, but becoming rigid at impact, then dispersing forces through the rest of the armor as well as possible - which would require a hyper-fast processor and incredibly high quality sensors, cameras, etc. for an AI/program to calculate the incoming projectile/threat vector, pinpoint the predicted point of impact just before it happens, then "lock" the helmet for a split second at the exact time of impact/just before impact, and releasing the "lock" immediately after - but in a controlled manner. Also, some amount of adjusting the rest of the body automatically to brace against impact/prevent being knocked over from the torque/lever forces of being hit in one particular place, etc. The whole thing needs to act as a unit, not as individual parts.
Basically, the helmet needs the rest of the suit to connect and interface with/brace against, and intelligent, advanced computing, sensor arrays, a bunch of power, secondary and tertiary backup failover compute systems, and backup power to ensure it's never "off", redundant AI systems for every sensor and type of process, and a "master" AI to put all of the information together in near-real time/anticipating/being ready for every kind of impact/threat. And then the whole thing needs to be hardened against radiation, EMI, and active interference, to ensure nothing fails, or is accidentally slowed down/nothing causes any hesitation whatsoever - hyper-fast error checking and correction, protection from solar flares, radiation spikes, etc. to outright prevent anything that could cause bitflips, etc.
There's a lot of work to be done. And I certainly think it's a mistake to design the helmet *by itself*, if we're really taking things seriously enough to say, "Let's shoot bullets at it". Halsey would never have designed the helmet by itself. It's a system/unit, and should never be used dismantled or compromised.
Because then you're relying on luck, and no human in reality has a canonical luck factor.
That we know of.

I am a mechanical designer and 3D printing aficionado, working in one of my nation’s most critical laboratories, and I have HALO to thank for that. For so many years of my life, I wanted to cultivate the skill, experience, and education necessary to craft practical Spartan armor- and it led me to my current career. Your project gives me hope that one day I’ll have the opportunity to fulfill that dream. Maybe your team could use an extra hand down the line?

I'm in the medical field, Dermatology for the last twenty plus years. I can tell, by the skin on your forehead how much you have spent with with this project and the constant wearing of proto types and such has taken a toll on your skin. Your commitment to this project is visible on your face, and you wear it with pride. @ 16:25 I can can tell this is truly a project of love of your face. and I admire the hell of your commitment.

Regarding removing all the batteries from the helmet, I have one concern: if your power connection is damaged or severed... What then? Wouldnt you want even a short term, smaller and more durable battery backup to allow functionality of the helmet while getting out of a danger zome for a patch job?

All I know is, if you guys do release the blueprints and instructions.. I gotta say, please allow for the option for metal implementation.
Because if things ever call for it, be it how ever random the situation, I'd love to have capable mjolnir at the ready.
So something interesting I want to work on is an integrating a firearm into the HUD. I’m going to school for gunsmithing and would love to give a shot at an AR or BR that links up with that helmet.

An idea for the future, gas masks have these special voice emitters (for lack of a better word) that can be used in NBC environments. You'd need a way to shut it on and off for space, but it's a low cost, tested and proven means to improve person to person communcation. The more of them you have the better the sound quality. And it uses no electricity.
I've been following this project for a little over a year now and seeing everything come together like this is just amazing. These kinds of projects are what I love about engineering, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next with phase 2

And Idea you can use in the 2nd helmet prototype. Let say the helmet sustains a melee hit or the helmet is dropped from head height onto solid ground. That everything is built so sturdy that it doesn't sustain any damage. And perhaps a ballistic gell hot/cold system for padding and internal environmental temperature equilibrium system. To prevent overheating/freezing of the head/skin.
I honestly thought this was nothing but a pipe dream, but then you actually went and made the helmet. Can't wait to see the rest of it.

@@alexbrinzan9061 well, aluminium has a density of 2.7 g/cm^3, titanium's is 4.506 g/cm^3, so with titanium, it would be heavier rather than lighter, but I guess that may be more true to the MJOLNIR we see in Halo and more durable as Titanium has a higher tensile strength and overall hardness
honestly that weight is rather good, anything up to 10kg or 22lb is manageable but the heavier it gets the more uncomfortable it gets with prolonged wear

Technically with correct system can make an exoskeleton feel weightless or even make u stronger

It is actually my life goal and dream to make real functioning mjonir armor. To see you do this you are literally making my dream come true. Even if you do it I’m going to make one myself. Ever since I was 8 years old and played halo 3 for the first time, I knew then and there I wanted to BE master chief. MAKE the armor and wear it myself. Once the suit is completed it would be amazing to see if you could collaborate with other youtubers who have also made Halo Technology such as Jairus of All and his fireable SPNKR
Level4 ballistic protection using ceramic and Kevlar insertions on the main armour plates would be phenomenal to see i wonder if any ballistic plate companies are willing to do custom jobs. And another thing if you wanted to do a thermal outline like HALO 3 ODST then maybe a mounting system for a C.O.T.I. (Clip on thermal imager) such as the Jerry CE5 would be an idea, or maybe a thermal imaging software can be integrated into the HoloLens

I love the internal framework, it looks like a mix of all the Halos marine helmet for some reason. That is too cool man, great work! Absolutely love it. It gave me chills and kind of choked me up a bit to see my childhood truly come to life a bit! Keep it up!
Incredibly good, i remember hearing about the project when it was just starting and I was like, “I highly doubt that this becomes a reality, it's too outlandish, here's hoping it somehow works though”, and, here we are months later with the actual, functional helmet, to say I'm impressed is a massive understatement.
A good next step would be to see the either the gloves or the boots next, they're still fairly difficult but they're much smaller so i reckon they'd take less time.

How do you intend to keep the helmet hermetically sealed with the 2 separated halves?
I'd like to see if it's bullet resistant. A collaboration with Demolition Ranch could be fun.
Unfortunately I don't think it could even withstand a .22lr, the only thing it might protect you from (the aluminum parts at least) is maybe birdshot from a shotgun.

Is there any intention to make the rest of the armor for the body, and to make both the suit and helmet ballistic grade? Titanium is a great choice all be it an expensive one.
