I own a 2008 Escape with the 3.0L V6 and 4WD and I absolutely love it! It’s got 153,000 miles and still going strong! Not a single light on the dash either
Both of my parents had an Escape at one point. My mom had the OG 2001 that was a beast in the snow, and my dad also had an '08. Loved the sound of the 3.0L Duratec.
One good thing about these escape hybrids is that they're a great value on the used market while a RAV4 still commands 80 to 85% of its MSRP even a few years later
Do you know why the RAV4 has excellent resale value? Because it's a quality built car made to last. I wouldn't trust a Ford to go past it's extended warranty. It's cheaper to get the more expensive Toyota and save on maintenance and repair costs.

The MSRP is pretty irrelevant. I don't know where everyone in the comments here lives but the out the door price in Canada when you actually go to the dealership is much lower than what is being suggested here. I am getting to like $46,000 without much negotiation for the base PHEV including $5,000 IZ rebate and 13% HST. I can tell based on my discussions the dealers are willing to go lower than that. That is more than $10,000 less than the best apples to apples RAV4 prime price I was able to negotiate and those are not even available. Even if the RAV4 Prime was available, there seems to be no room to negotiate with Toyota given the demand and the lease and finance rates are significantly worse as I write this. So, would I rather the RAV4? Yes, but given the price difference and if financing/leasing, my payment will be like $200+/month less on the lease for the Escape with comparable mileage/$ savings. I have a '20 Ford Escape. I think this one does a good job of giving more style with the revised front fascia, and Jakub--no rattling in the rear like what you had with that Ford Bronc Sport Heritage! (My cousin experienced the same with her Bronco Sport Outer Banks and gave it up for a Kia Sportage). Also, more rear leg room/reclining seats in the Escape vs the Bronco Sport, though the Bronco Sport makes up for it in more cargo area. I have a regular ICE 1.5L version, and I think I'll take my hp/torque numbers over fuel efficiency. But I'm impressed how many folks really love this PHEV version.
@@jonlosito2004if I ever became a police officer, I'd only drive one of the sedans. The two choices in service today are the Taurus Interceptor and the Charger Enforcer they reviewed a few years ago.
My 2016 Escape Titanium was about 36 thousand. (Amurucaan). I had all options except the engine block warmer. As you discovered it was surprisingly nimble, for what it was. Same color as your tester which was new for model year 2016. I would still have it but those (conventional) transmissions were trash. I sold it at 105,000 miles. I do miss it. Thinking about getting a 2020 Escape Hybrid or a used model 3.
I prefer the 2024 Toyota Rav4 or Prius Primes. I love the fact I waited over 1.5 years (Sept 2022 order) to find out the vehicle has not made it onto the "scheduled for production" list. Also really enjoyed the realization, that once I get it the dealer might just increase the price on me; rare Prius Maximum Yellow color. And even better if I wait long enough, I get to pay an additional $5,000 over others before me because the March 31, 2025 deadline for the Federal Rebate in Canada is coming up quickly. Alas, I have settled on a 2024 Ford Escape PHEV (full load, tri-coat white, roof, block heater even) with a $5,000 government rebate, $1,500 Ford rebate, and an additional $2,300 dealer rebate. Hey, for the $10,000+ savings over the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime (Mystery Arrival Edition) and the MORE comfortable interior... I'll take it!
My '16 Volt is getting WAY up there in miles, and this is a perfect review for me now.. Thanks, looks like there are still some PHEV options out there I can live with and actually find for sale.. Good review!
Definitely consider looking at an Outlander if you’re thinking of getting a PHEV, they give you so much stuff as standard at a much better pricing than a lot of other options and the outlander phev does not have a cvt, only dual electric motors so that’s a win in my book
My mother got a brand new escape in 2020, 40k CAD for top trim hybrid AWD (not a plug in). Amazing for that price and overall pretty nice and super good mileage. Unfortunately nothing has really changed in the interior or drivetrain and they go for $10k more than before
It has one massive advantage over the RAV4 - sound insulation. Ford has one, Toyota doesn't. Also surprisingly the hybrid AWD variant has an actual driveshaft to the rear wheels.
I don't know about the current models but my wife had a 2014 Titanium AWD with a detuned Focus ST engine, and that thing was surprisingly fun to drive, and I had the Focus ST at the time. Blew everything in its class out of the water the only competition was the Kia Sportage when they refreshed them in 2015 and had an awd turbo 4 edition. Everything else was gutless and slow.
Believe it or not with the "shakey" turbo 3 the vehical is plenty quick enough. 0 to 60 in 7.7 seconds. I mean it not fast by any means but adequate. It never feels slow. It has more torque than the hybrid. 190lb-ft vs 155lb-ft on the hybrid.
I have a 2021 Ford Escape with the 1.5 3 turbo as a company vehicle. If driven strictly town/city it tends to be a bit shakey at a red light, especially in winter. Not VERY shakey, but it reminds you that a 3 cylinder is under the hood. In summer, and highway driving, one wouldn't even know a 3 cylinder is powering the vehicle. I recently test drove a 2024 Ford Escape PHEV in a combination of city and brief highway driving. The sales guy had actually charged the battery before the test drive. I found the drive very relaxing and didn't have any issues with the brake pedal. I tend to be a very relaxed driver anyway. I used to have a 2004 Prius so I knew how to carefully modulate the pedal. In the end, I ordered a '24 PHEV Platinum with Premium Package, in the exact colour I wanted.
We have the 2023 Escape PHEV and on our drive mode screen we have the option to do "EV Charge" while driving. It definitely puts more of a load on the engine and sucks up a LOT of fuel
Wife has a 2017 Escape... While overall it has been just OK. It's also been a pain for repair costs when it has needed it. I don't think I'd buy it again but she likes the Ford ergos/layout of the cockpit.
Same here. Because of my wife is addixtes to ford adaptive cc, steering wheel and seat ergonomics. I had to return 1 day old bmw 530e. She only wants to drive ford and hated the BMW. Now, I am watching this review to see if I can see myself in one of these. We drive two fusion plugin hybrids and are extremely happy with them.
I have the 2023 Non-Hybrid in the platinum trim with the 2.0l ecoboost and in town i def lose a lot of mpg at about 24-25, but on the highway I am still seeing well over 30
I love it but for the next video can you please please do 2024 Kia sorento gasoline edition and also can you get road rider brown with an olive brown leather seat for the interior. And also please tell me the horsepower and the torque and also the capacity and also make the video little longer thanks straightpipes
Look at that.. People finally realizing analog is indispensable. Mazda has it right. They disable the touchscreen when the shifter is on drive on my 2019 cx3 GT
If you don’t take the big screen option you still have physical buttons for climate control and heated seats. Have a 2023 st line hybrid as a company car. Hard to believe that at that price point simple features like the front windows aren’t one touch up/down aren’t included. A 2017 trendline plus Jetta has those features, and the same gas consumption.
I like the looks of the Escape, it drives nice (with the ecoboost), it's comfortable and much more affordable than the Rav4. I seriously considered an ST-line with the 2.0 Ecoboost but all the dealers near me only had the tech package with the big screen and after a 10 minute test drive I just hated it, especially with gloves on! It was -37*C that weekend and I had to take my gloves off to adjust the heater controls. Pardon me but hell no.
Climate controls were not on the 2026 Euro NCAP list of hard buttons. The only items listed were "...Those critical tasks include the direction indicators, hazard light activation, honking a horn, turning on the rain wipers, and activation of an SOS function to automatically call emergency services in a serious event.". Hopefully the list will grow over time. 🤞🤞
The Escape is not good looking in the least. That stupid light bar on the front doesn’t even flow into the headlight and doesn’t fit the design, it just looks like an after market light strip and they removed the side view mirror turn signals from all of the Escape trim levels. I couldn’t imagine getting an Escape with all of the other great choices in the class.
This is a good work car and that’s about it. I have a 2023 escape st line. It’s pretty nice, nothing special. Not too bad for 27k (they marked off 6k idk why)
I don't hate the Mach-E (nor do I passionately love it, but I don't mind it) and just seeing these side by side it makes me further appreciate that the Mach-E "is" a Mustang - it's so much sportier in stance and proportion. Even in real life, I think the Mach-E sits on the road like a Mustang (obviously as a reimagined one). And this, well, sits like an unoffensive family crossover - as it should. Not a bad effort from Ford. (Although I also agree, the "real" Ford escape - the boxy one - was a cool and surprisingly iconic car. The Bronco Sport has probably taken that place, but this one really is as uninteresting as any Rav4 or CRV. But again that is probably the point. I'm actually more sad about this one being named the Escape than the Mach-E being the Mustang!)
These days efficiency just means more complication, higher repair costs and a shorter life of the car before its scrap. The only exception is really Toyota/Honda hybrids.
I drive a base model 2003 currently as it’s my company car. I personally wouldn’t buy one unless I am able to get one cheap. I like the older 2015 which they gave me prior to this car more. Not so plastic fantastic.
I have a 2015 SE AWD Escape. Got it used. Don't know how a car sold in Quebec would up in MN? I get good milage. Have sensor problem that no one can figure out, so I live with it. The turbo does lag, but it has not went out yet. Have had above average repair costs.. But, winters are hard on cars up here. Not a big fan of the ECO-BOOST motors. Would not buy a Ford again.
Elon was right...if mainstream chinese cars (phevs and evs) were allowed to come to NA, the existing brands can't compete, save for Tesla. For 50k usd, that's a fully kitted luxury car in China.
In Europe, it's the best PHEV on the market, you can't find another car with this price point offering you a lot of options for less money. RAV4 it's way too expensive and way too boring, Sportage it's the same, really expensive for nothing, so Kuga it's the best for under 40k euro.
Straightpipes I am not gonna lie this video kinda bored it does got action or fun. I will give 7.5 out 10 not bad not good in the middle. The last video about BMW and Lexus car review I love that one I am give that 9.8 out of 10
Start of the video, Launch Control, did you guys hear that grinding noise, sounded like CVT was giving out or grinding gears. Imagine that you drive out of the lot and CVT gives out. lol. FORD ( Found on Road Dead )
The hybrid system in these is reliable as hell. E-cvts are also extremely durable, basically in the opposite end of the reliability spectrum from those garbage Subaru and Nissan belt driven CVTs.
It's not a regular CVT. It's a planetary gearset like a Toyota. From what I've read Ford's hybrid system is very mechanically similar to Toyota's system. The hybrid powertrain is the big thing about these cars that could actually be confidently considered reliable long term since it's so similar to Toyota's.
YES! You are correct... not one GD belt in or on this engine or in the trans. NO! you are wrong... it has nothing in common with Toyota. This "CVT" consists of a 1.)HV traction motor. 2.) HV Generator motor. 3.) ICE coupled through a dampener (a traditional clutch and flywheel permanently engaged). The generator is the couple between ICE and HV traction motor and provides the gear ratio exchange by changing the relative rotational speed and direction- to provide motive charging (regen/engine starting). That said my C MAX is at 159,000+ miles US just got a fresh set of p235/40r19 continental purecontact ls tires (2nd set) mounted on black focus RS wheels. Has been flawless and I adore it.
This is more reliable. Research the reliability history of Ford hybrids, they have a stellar reputation for longevity. Lots of cab companies are still using early 2000s escape hybrids. To put it into perspective, when cab companies tried switching to Toyota Camry's, they only lasted a few years before having problems, and the Ford's are still running after 15.

If the bronco sport is getting that screen, I won't trade in. That's a deal breaker. I don't need a damn tv.
These days efficiency just means more complication, higher repair costs and a shorter life of the car before its scrap. The only exception is really Toyota/Honda hybrids.
woootwoooot?!!! 55K?!!!! Geeez No way im buying this then.
The new Escape looks like the 2013-2019 Escapes again.
This competes with a chevy trailblazer, not a chevy blazer trail sport. Almost got there lol
“It’s car” ‘nuff said
seems like it's still quite similar to the C-Max hybrid from 2013
I drive a base model 2003 currently as it’s my company car. I personally wouldn’t buy one unless I am able to get one cheap. I like the older 2015 which they gave me prior to this car more. Not so plastic fantastic.
Bh. Bhj uh
Straightpipes are gonna make new car review video please
That price is actually insane…
$40,500 USD starting price. No, no, no! There are plenty of better choices on the market for the same money or less.
Like what RAV4 Prime? There are barely any plug-in-hybrids in this category.
@@solderbuff For Example, a horse 🐎.
Your B-roll footage looks a bit low resolution 😕
The camera we use now just can’t focus well unless the car is right next to it
@TheStraightPipes I see, keep up to good work though 🙂
❤️
Call these cars how they are: TRASH
Reliability over fancy gimmicks matters more.
sucks that they discontinued Escape here in South East Asia in favor of the Chinese designed/made Territory
I cant imagine that thing not smelling like a damn rental car.
About the heads up display "its one of these panels?! Yuuuuuuuuuck" 😂😂😂 literally lol and replaying that 😂😂😂 🙏🙌 preach! What is this, Mitsubishi?! 🤐
Elon was right...if mainstream chinese cars (phevs and evs) were allowed to come to NA, the existing brands can't compete, save for Tesla. For 50k usd, that's a fully kitted luxury car in China.
This car gives off a hip grandmother vibe. Wonder how many will buy it
In Europe, it's the best PHEV on the market, you can't find another car with this price point offering you a lot of options for less money. RAV4 it's way too expensive and way too boring, Sportage it's the same, really expensive for nothing, so Kuga it's the best for under 40k euro.
I bought the renewed escape and I regret it because it lets in a lot of noise, it will give you a headache when you go long distances.
It's not a regular CVT, it's an e-CVT from Toyota, it's bulletproof. That grinding noise was just the car loosing grip.
I didn't know Ed Sheeran do test drives in NA
Every car should be loud lol
Doesn’t seem like that hybrid system is providing much torque here smh 🤦♂️.
its a car for responsible adults. Which isnt me. But it looks like a good car for a young family.
so it's a ford kuga?
yeah it is, kuga is just the name for European market.
Yea Jacob knows wht’s up, we don’t need our environment! Let the fumes flow!!
Looks like the 2021-2023 Ford Territory in Asia-Pacific
Should’ve done the st line elite😂
You know what's an affordable , fuel efficient CUV an not an unreliable piece of junk? A Toyota Corolla Cross or a RAV4 hybrid.
Ford's hybrids are based on Toyota technology and they're bulletproof.
Ngl chat.. Ford lost their marbles with what they think this is
The 2025 Santa Fe is CA$56k after tax… but of course you don’t find Hyundai dealerships in say Wainwright, AB, so I guess you’re paying for the extensive rural dealer network when you’re buying ford/chevy/Stelatis…..
