    Another great video and what a cool new aircraft for the collection and I like that it’s come home. Would love to see a mechanics corner review of the Bf-109 just a look over it would be great. Thanks Kermit!

    Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable.
    Wow. Fresh from England one airplane.
    Nice job of unloading all the parts and wings and motor and fuselage itself. Had a lot in that container.
    My compliments to all of your staff. They did a great job of unloading this remarkable aircraft.
    Lots of history there. History in person. Love to see this one flying.
    Thanks Kermit.

    Remember many sublime trips to TallMantz aviation at Orange County (now John Wayne) airport back when I was a kid. My favorite airplane on display was the Grumman Duck - it was so big, with the cool float, and so funky looking that I thought it was beautiful! I get the impression that it's just a fun plane to scoot around and shoot water landings - it was always my dream to take a ride in that one (probably fostered by the Peter O'Toole movie). I think I also remember a red P-51C, and several WWI replicas. I was like a kid in a candy shop, only better! These experiences really helped instill a love of aviation in me (thank you Dad❤). I was very sad to learn the news when Frank died, but elated to hear that you acquired the collection. Thanks for helping to keep these memories alive!

      I her you, my family went there once when we had a trip to Disneyland, I was 16 and still remember this plane, the Mustang (which, Kermit told me, is now his Tuskegee P51B!) and the B17, somewhere I have pictures. I'm now the same age as Kermit, how time flies!!

    Looks like that little Fokker took a few hits to its canvas fuselage during transit. Kermit’s Team will have it lovingly assembled and back in top shape quickly. What a gem of a guy, and a great operation and collection of historic aircraft at Fantasy of Flight outside of Orlando. Put it on your Bucket List if you are an aviation enthusiast. And these Videos are a priceless treat. Life is Good!

    Bianchi Autos rides for another season! 😂 Glad all the hard work that Ian put into those wings might finally bear some fruit, I seem to recall one of the tip ribs having a reinforcing strip made from an old orange tin can! Tallmantz saved the best for their repairs 😉

    • @lwilton
      @lwilton ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a story from the Marines on Guadalcanal. When they first got there, patching bullet holes in the skin of one of their planes "by the book" could take an afternoon. By the time they had been there a couple of weeks, that time was down to a few minutes. Typically they would just use a bit of tin can and rivet or screw it into place, rather than a proper repair. It worked fine for as long as the plane survived, which wasn't long under war conditions.

    A right nice acquisition, if a little off your beaten path. 🙂
    Kermit, if it were me (and of course it isn't) I wouldn't replace the engine on that bird unless the original is seized or otherwise broken. That machine has a defined history, with photos, of it being in the current configuration when it was used. I'd want to preserve that history, and maybe only remake that chicken-wire grill that seems to be falling apart.

    I think the Talmantz B-17 was also used in the "1000 Plane Raid." Tallman did the incredible flying on that movie. There are TH-cam vids of his flying in that movie. I actually Frank Tallman on the movie set at Santa Maria Airport.

      Yes...I just wish the Kawasaki Ki-61 would begin restoration...I have anticipated the restoration beginning on it since I was in my early 20's...in just over another couple years, I will be 60...would be nice to see an airworthy Ki-61 before my days on this earth are through..I've dreamed of seeing one firing up, taxiing, in the air since I was a teenager..I assume Kermit still has his. I think there are maybe one or two others that could be rebuilt(reconstructed), but I am not aware of any that are in the process of being restored to airworthy. If an original Kawasaki Ha 40 engine cannot be found that could be made airworthy, perhaps a DB 601 or 605 could be substituted(yes, I know those are rare, also)...

      Leeggewicht means empty weight but that isn't what it writes. It says leegewicht, they forgot an R though. It has to be Leergewicht, which means the same in German.
      Furthermore Nutzlast means payload and Gesamtgewicht means total weight. It's all in German, no Dutch words written on it. Made in the Netherlands, okay, but in service in the German airforce
