UNBOXING! - A Container from Director Peter Jackson

  • Back in 2012, Peter Jackson, the famous film director friend of mine, sent me a container with some World War I goodness in it. Peter and I are both fans of anything and everything connected with WWI - especially the airplanes. We worked out a deal for some things, and the results of that deal await in this container.
    I'm not going to keep you in suspense . . . the container holds the Albatros DVa and the Sopwith Snipe that Peter's The Vintage Aviator Limited built for me. It's still fun though watching them come out into the Florida sunlight.
    Hope you enjoy!

    Two wings, linen & dope, round engines & castor oil. I've got aeroplane envy! Again! Whenever I get glimpses of your collection, it becomes more & more obvious to me that given a different set of resources in my world, our collections would be almost identical! Well done!

    Incredible how Peter's camera inside the container caught Kermy and the boy's first glimpse as they opened the doors.

    Hi, in about 1961 I began building Revell and other WW I plane models such as the Albatross. At that time it never occurred to me that the real planes would come out of a box to be assembled. I figured they all were one piece already built. I feel better and happier now about all the models that I built. " Hey! "

    No idea how much money Kermit has in order to afford this hobby- I can barely afford to unbox a 1/48 scale version of one of his collection. No jealousy (well, maybe a bit) - I have way too many hobbies to be able to concentrate on any one of them to this extent, and to see his enthusiasm in all his videos - there can't possibly be a better person with the means to restore and fly these beautiful pieces of history!

      Kermit gets a royalty from gas exploration, his grandfather was a geologist that made a deal with BHP in Australia.

      @Lazarus7000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Desertduleler_88 Shit like that is awesome. My dad new a guy whose grandfather had a farm, and when electricity came around, the old man was offered by the power company some reasonable rental fee for putting some pylons on his land. He negotiated to receive somewhat less money, but all the electricity he could use, as well, and similarly crafted the agreement such that it stood so long as his family owned the property. This was when pretty much the only thing to do with electricity would be light lamps, and it being a farm maybe run a couple 1 or 2-HP motors (which were taken from task to task for multiple uses in those days). Yet the deal stood and maybe still stands.

    The planes ,camo, Kermit are just so neat, so awsome. WW1 planes are strangely fastinating,especially the ones that ran wide open only ,I think they turned the ignition on and off to take off and land? Scary. Luv the work Kermit and his people do to preserve.

    The camo(?) on top wing on the Albatross was incredible. You're a lucky man Kermit, to have a friend in Peter who has the same passion as you do! Can't wait to see these two gorgeous warbirds fly again.

    So exciting to see these two works of art being unloaded from their containers,I never cease to be amazed at the skills being shown by Peter Jacksons WW1 aircraft factory with the obvious attention to detail lavished on these aircraft,not to worry too much about the Sopwith 1 and a half 1/2 strutter because Peters team will no doubt build you one in the future,meanwhile you can enjoy these two and what important additions for Fantasy of Flight,really look forward to seeing these two in the air soon,your grin says it all Kermit you are one happy man ! and we are too because you share these aviation artifacts with the world,Bravo !

Darien Banfield owned the company at 7B3, North Hampton New Hampshire . I wonder if that was the fuse we sent of the Albatros DVa.
