    I saw Chuck Berry at Brisbane's Festival Hall, Australia in 1978 or '79. What I remember most about the gig was that he was just not loud enough for this big hall. Festival hall had a dreadful reputation for poor acoustics. Musicians who played there regularly said it was an echo chamber and the way to get around this was to turn the volume up. Chuck was way too quiet. For comparison I saw Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt and many others not noted for playing loudly and Chuck Berry was the quietest. I don't know if it was an equipment problem or whether this was how he liked to play.
    Volume aside, I got up front and watched every lick.
    Aside: a lady named Ingrid Berry sang a quick bracket. I don't know if she was his daughter, wife, whatever. She had a great voice.

      Hardtop Harry I guess that's more down to the sound crew than chuck himself. Perhaps the PA wasn't suitable for the venue? Great that you got to see him!

    • @dinkaboutit4228
      @dinkaboutit4228 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chuck Berry didn't travel with a sound system or a crew or a band. He flew in with his guitar, and you provided him with:
      a) $10,000 US in cash, and
      b) a stage, a PA, and a 3 or 4 piece band (+/- keys) of competent musicians who had recently rehearsed EVERY Chuck Berry song.
      True story.
      So if the sound sucked it was the promoter's fault.

    hi Jason please would you consider a tutorial for Chuck Berry's 'Nadine' as others on TH-cam just do not seem to have it correct, and I have faith in you best regards Peter

    Hi Jason Read! question: did Chuck Berry do double stops first?

    • @thejaseguitar
      @thejaseguitar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know - I'm guessing there were players prior to Berry who used them but he certainly had is own unique way of playing them which has been copied ever since :)

    Mr big hands over here, I can play it this way but any tips to help with it? Maybe it's my posture but it hurts my wrist (of all things) to play I worry playing it more than as just a short riff will be bad for my wrist.
    Edit: the bassy lick on the 3rd of E 5th/7of A to be specificand its higher string counterpart. It doesn't hurt when I hammer on the 6th but it just doesnt sound as pretty to me I like it your way

    That G7 that includes the B string is giving me SOOO much trouble. When my third finger goes up to the A string it mutes the D string.

      Oldskool Funk Yes! big fan of that channel plus Morrisman and the Eric Blackmon channels (is he related?). Fascinated by all the licks and fills Teenie, Cropper and Dupree played. Need as much help as I can to play them!

    • @OriginalOldSkoolFunk

      Paul Flook Man...you can't go wrong with Morrisman and Eric Blackmon. They play the songs I grew up playing as a young wanna guitarist back in the 70's and I rarely play anymore...but it is good to occasionally learn a new or differ way to play an old song I used to play.
      As far as the exceptional Teenie Hodges and the Colonel, Steve Cropper are concerned...I will sum it up in two words. MEMPHIS SOUL...!

    Always wanted to know how to play that. Suggest you stop shaking the note when instructing, makes it more difficult to follow, and it’s a keyboard solo so there’s no vibrato anyway. Thanks for a good lesson!

    • @MrFrampo56
      @MrFrampo56 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad someone else noticed it. There is NO vibrato anywhere. The notes are pretty much staccato.

    Do you know any piano boogie (right hand) licks that can transfer to guitar, ala Chuck Berry style? I would certainly send you a payment for a couple of real tasty ones.

    Love the riffs but I'm not so sure about the rythym ....I dont feel that boogie shuffle ..not on this one
    Listen to what ur playing...u dont need to shuffle that...its redundant...ur playing straight eighth notes....
    You prob think I'm a dik but I'm sorry it's just the way I hear it....I love the song

      @@imannonymous7707 It's kinda hard to get the right feel when your just playing along to yourself on a looper pedal, but the main thing I think is to teach the notes. Feel is very much down to the individual player and how a band works together. Besides I could never really play it with the same feel as the original because there's only one Chuck Berry and he's the master of this!

    You are moving way too fast man and it’s really hard to see what you’re doing. It would be great if you explained where your fingers were in sort of a tableture manner for those of us that don’t know notes honestly I just found this lesson. Very frustrating. All the patterns are there, but they are out of breach for me because you’re moving too quickly and you’re not telling me where your fingers are
