  • Avocado Beta cultivar. Very good consistent producer but susceptible to fruit drop, branch breakage and die back, sometimes even tree loss. 7 year old trees produces over 100 lbs of fruit Movie made with Sony Handycam HDR-CV 700

Greetings I love to watch your videos over and over again Carlos, thanks for the great content. I am very curious to know which rootstock seed do you prefer for your area? I live in South India in a sub-tropical area where we get a lot of rain and sun and the temperature never drops below 10 degrees Celsius at night during winter.

Javier all would depend on the cost of the land (land is getting more expensive again). varieties you plant, irrigation system you choose, what type or soil you have and the preparation required. Is not a simple formula. How much adversity can you handle or you need insurance. The list goes on.
In my case I had positive cash flow on year 6. Is a long term investment

Does anybody know if this variety grows well in California? Specifically the Bay Area?

I have 4 seedlings I planted by seed so far grown from Avocados that came from (I think from) 'Mexico' and one is 12" tall. The other 4 just emerged and I'm waiting for two more to sprout up. I am in central east Florida about 5 miles from the ocean and wanted to know two things mainly. #1> On my 12" seedling, do I need to go half way down and pinch it off for it to branch out? I hear yes and no. I hear it'll do just fine on it's own. But will it still branch out? I've grown many other plants in my life so I do have a green thumb but these tropical fruit plants are new to me. I prefer not to pinch or snip off the trunk if it's ok not to. #2> It was usually hot this summer and I placed it ( The avocado seedling) in the sun once for a test around 90 degrees. Soon after it looked like it was being stressed, so I placed it back in the shade and it perked back to life. Luckily we are nearing FALL and I wanted to know how big should it be before I can plant it in the ground for full toleration of 'hot' sunlight. I also have one Mango seedling only and wanted to know the same for that one. My mango seedling has sprouted his 4 leaves and about to start on another set at about 6" tall now. I only planted one Mango because I like Avocado trees better but more of a way to say, 'Yes, I successfully grew a Mango tree' for my collection around my 1/2 acre yard. BTW, my pots are all 3 gallon size. I was also worried about the size of the seedling and root space before it needed to be planted and all are very healthy.

Hard question to answer. Too many variables. Like time of the year, condition of the bud wood, seedling size etc. etc. Now avocados should not get stress out in the sun if they are well hydrated and have a good root system in the pot
