Imagine a world where someone designed an actual good game around this theme. A world where someone might say, "My favorite games are Agricola, Gay Sauna, and Terraforming Mars." Oh well. At least we got this excellent dice-rolling demonstration at 3:29
True story. When he said "What don't we like about Gay Sauna?" and the caption which read the same popped up on the screen, I got an ad for a mobile dating game which began with a huge caption which read: *EVERYTHING* You can't make this stuff up.
Fog of Love changed covers for boyboy girlgirl etc as the game still can be used that way. But geez, I had to check the date and make sure it was not published on April 1 - how you kept your face straight and the innuendos being very dry but extremely funny. Crikeys, I don't think anyone could have pulled off (no pun intended) a review this good, this funny yet perfectly in your normal way of reviewing.
Looks like a blue re-theme of a kids game from the 80s. Tell you what I would like to see though: A RuPaul's Drag Race re-theme of Rococo. That could be delightful and a meaty game to boot.
Thanks for covering out of the norm games. It’s cool the art/props dig into the theme so much, but too bad that the gameplay does not look as interesting. Appreciate your take!
Hi! If you were unhappy with your time spent in a Gay Sauna have a look at the card game "Consentacle" the theme is a bit disturbing, tentacled alien meets human............? Though the artwork by James Harvey on the cards is really good, and the game mechanics are more detailed and constructively thought out, more so then the lazy dice mechanics of Gay Sauna.
Maybe there will be an expansion to help bring it all together? Maybe you can roll a die and end up with an STD? Then a mini game to see if it can be cured? Just ideas...
That’s very funny! It’s a shame the game is so paper thin though. Good on you for covering it! 👍🏻 I’d kinda love a heavy euro with a theme like this for novelties sake. Like trying to make a porn empire but with the complexity of a Lacerda. Probably a bit niche though! 😅
I look forward to getting my copy. I wasn't expecting Brass Birmingham. Another LGBTQ game that came out last year was the deck builder, Stonewall Uprising.
@@BoardGameBollocks it is fun and walks you through LGBTQ civil rights movement in the US from the 60s through the 80s and doesn't shy away from the hardships the movement faced. Once you learn the game, it plays in 30 minutes
Fair review! The conclusion surprised me after the rest was so kindly explained. Maybe it's meant as foreplay, because it's unfortunately not much of a game otherwise.
Fair comment, and it reminds me of a number of games on KS, that might take on a radical theme, but the gameplay is a relic of 70s or 80s style gameplay, where players weren't entrusted with any meaningful decisions to make. Like this game, the lack of thought / effort put into art / graphic design gives an overwhelming feeling that the game has been rushed through, in the hope the theme is enough to make it succeed. Invariably it isn't.
Thx for explaining. I love gay saunas and i love boardgames (not always the best mix anyway). But like u said a game has to be fun in the very first place so if it isn't then the thema does not make up for it. Sadly cuz when i learned this game and now see what it is it is very dissapointing.
I bought the game and have never played it. I collect games with NSFW themes. 1) to support people taking risks. And 2) because I hate censorship. So this game sits on my shelf next to Bukkake the card game, Sex The game, Porn! The game, and my magnum opus, Bergnein. A banned board game out of Sweden about a gay club in Berlin. That got hit by a copyright and removed from market. I have a strange hobby
When you first introduced the game I was like “- This will most likely be lots of theme and no substance”. The best part was when you confirmed it by that fail at trying to maintain your angry face at the beginning of the review. 😂 Love it!
Excellent review: I'm gay and was all ready to be one of those 'offended snowflakes' you so love to despise (don't worry honey, I'm 64 and used to being despised!), but I thought your review was very fair, even-handed and trustworthy.
damn, thought this would be at least playable. will have to wait for another lgbt game to come out. there is one called 'drags to riches' in production. hope you can get your hands on that for review.
I don’t find the theme attractive, the mechanisms seem empty and it was a Kickstarter (I am sure there’s a theme-related pun there but who can be bothered?)
Haha props, mate, props. Wasn’t expecting this. Would’ve been cool for the gay community is this was a hit, though. And then only you discovered it… Shows some serious oldskool mentality though, no ‘diversity’ or some shit, it’s a game, so we’ll try the damn thing! Looking forward to you continuing on this new ‘path’, haha just joking
Is that your worst experience ever in a gay sauna?lolol what a nonsense game...reminded me of Victor Lewis Smith's gay Dalek sketches...white wee wee, exsperminate exsperminate!!!
That's got to be the most uninspiring board I've ever seen. Similar to Card Against Humanity might be funny the first play, shock value etc, shall we play again? No!
Don't even pick things like that up!!! STD's and STI's arent anything to play with!!! Irresponsible behavior kills!!! Boardgames are supposed to be a fun gathering mostly of children, friends and family to spend quality time together. If it's getting something more competitive, with stronger themed subjects. It belongs in a casino or a club or in a place requiring I.D. to enter!!! This subject matter is completely inappropriate for anyone under the age of 18!!! Basically this game needs to be rated at 21 and above because it's x-rated!!!
I was genuinely hopeful for this one. It’s just a shame that there no game here. They could’ve done so much more…imagine a worker placement or deck builder instead of an 80s style roll die and check chart…would’ve been much more interesting
@@BoardGameBollocks You should poll your subscribers for interesting ideas. Like "Your favorite board game that you know sucks", or isn't popular, or whatever. Like, for instance, one of my favorite games is Search for the Emperor's Treasure (an old TSR Dragon magazine game). It's old school, paper map and dice charts and chits, a dice-fest, and it's hokey, but I think it's perfect for what it is. That's just me, and I _know_ that's it's mostly just me. Some people _really_ like the old 221b Baker Street Sherlock Holmes games, or those old 3M Bookshelf Games (maybe I've noticed this because I now live in Minnesota), Arkham Horror is well known (it's a love it or hate it sort of thing, and (even though I fall into the "love it" camp) I completely understand why there's such sharp division around it) but a lot of those fans also gravitate towards less popular hokey Lovecraftian themed games like The Hills Rise Wild, or whatever. I know someone who has over 10,000 board games (I thought that might be an exaggeration too, until I saw them, and now I understand that it's a low-ball estimate), and he got giddy when he got the chance to pull out Pirateer (1978) and we enjoyed it so much that we played it 3 times in a row. Pirateer is such a basic and simple type of game, Roll & Move with Pick-up & Deliver, but this was really fun, but it's just not a game that you're really going to normally hear about. Maybe you could poll your subscribers (and _only_ the subscribers -- make them click it!) and get some obscure (but noteworthy) games to take a look at. Run the submission and voting stuff in the YT Community tab or over on BGG. I dunno.
The seriousness of the review makes it even more hilarious. A true professional!

@@BoardGameBollocks maybe should have waited a week to post this on April 1st , to up the ante ...
This was probably one of the funniest board game reviews I’ve ever seen. Bravo Sir! You are quickly becoming one of my favorites.
i told you guys he is one of the best!
Thanks for playing through this family game with your mum and kids to deliver us another hard, ballsy, and cheeky review.
I was going to live stream it but my Mum was guilty of premature evacuation.

Bit Gareth Hunt Nescafé I thought 😂 👊
You’re right! Must be going senile…
You've got a set for sure. Way to push the boundaries of game reviews. I salute you.
The Alexander Pfister joke was a highlight - excellent review 😂

Thanks for saving me a purchase. Now I get to throw my money at an actual gay sauna.
Fill your boots 😂
"tongue in cheek" ...brilliant! I was really hoping this would be a good game, I love the theme.
This review once again reminds me why I love your channel. You're effing great.
I like to think so 😂
Reviewing that game in the same format you always do made it so much better! It is too bad that the mechanics are no good I was almost sold on it.
"An unmitigated clusterfuck" - surely that will be printed on the box.

Oh my god. I had to come back and watch this again. Well good for you for pushing the boundaries. Now was this a gift....?
Thanks for covering this. I had almost backed this but I could kind of tell there was not much gameplay involved sadly.

Great review. How many retakes were needed because you couldn't keep a straight face? 😅
