  • It's another Vintage Quilt Block Makeover with a Twist! The St. Gregory's Cross Quilt Block may be old, but it looks amazing in modern fabrics. For our Classic & Vintage Quilt series, we've replaced the templates and Y-seams with modern quilting techniques, making it a fun and simple block.

    Classic and Vintage is my favorite!! On this block, I wish the star was more evident in the middle of the block as in the original!!

    Oh my goodness, I have the original pattern in a collection from my grandmother. She saved them for a few years, and I have them now.

    I adore making old blocks modern. So glad you have a series.
    I’ve been working with those old ‘Kansas City blocks’ on the quilt I’ve been making in honor of my grandparents. It’s taken me years, but the idea is to use all blocks that my grandparents would have known as children, in their baby quilts, but make it in bold greens and white to modernize it. Then embroider their names & family surnames in the corners.
    I wanted to thank you for your extensive list of free patterns, including cross stitch, & the page of links to manufactures’ free patterns. Also, thank you for making tutorials for free patterns.
    Being disabled and on a fixed income, seeing you do tutorials for free patterns is a huge deal. It makes me feel represented. Not everyone can buy each beautiful pattern, after beautiful pattern, no matter how much we wish it, lol. And, while tutorials are awesome, if I can’t access the pattern because of my living situation, then I don’t learn a great deal from that tutorial.
    So, I want to say, I’m very grateful that you offer so many free patterns, both for quilting & for cross stitch. I’m also grateful for your clear & professional tutorials for free patterns. Thank you. Have a great day.

    This pattern was released by the Kansa City Star for quilters who often made this during Lent. So the “Lenten Needleworkers” just refers to any quilters who would be quilting during the Lenten season.

    Thank you for this tutorial. St. Gregory was Pope during the middle ages and the Lenten season is the 40 days prior to Easter. Since Catholic households prepare for Easter by fasting and abstinence during Lent, I suspect that the ladyfolk :) would take this opportunity to quilt.

    This is a very nice block and I am so glad you were able to revise it for quilters today. Thank you. (My only negative comment on the video is the constant advertising. You said at the beginning you used a Creative Grid ruler. We get it. You don't have to repeat the company name every time you use it.)

    Beautiful "Old may new again".
    Thanks for showing the glue basting of the corner blocks. (As a serial glue baster, it is confirmation bias!) It makes for an efficient staging of work while keeping pieces attached until ready to sew. And once you sew, you can be assured of no slip and no distortion from pins.
    An alternative construction method to reduce some fabric waste is to use the CG Folded Corner Clipper (MVP ruler). It will create the engineered corner on the base block and will create no waste for the corner fabric deployed by cutting engineered corners from a right sized-strip. The ruler does all of the work as it includes seam allowances in each cut.

    With the seam align glue you can put the iron on your fabric and the glue will set in seconds, then you don't have to wait for it to dry.

    Kimberly! Thank you so much for yet another delightfully entertaining and educational video! Oh and as to what “Lenten” means? Likely refers to the period of Lent which falls between Ash Wednesday and Easter. So if the date of that snip from the Kansas City star corresponds to this then there you have your answer!

      As it gets cut on that line, it really does not matter what one chooses to use. I use Pima pen or graphite pencil. Never with any problem. I don't even own a Frixion pen.

    What is the benefit of pressing seams open?

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Judy! We decided to press open on this quilt to help reduce the amount of bulk in the seams.

  • @busybeejordan

    Is this pattern fat quarter friendly?

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello busybeejordan! The tablerunner can be made with some Fat Quarters, but the rest of the fabric requirements need larger cuts. You can see the full fabric requirements list on the PDF pattern information bit.ly/3Gy2jUy

  • @judyvance1556

    Why press seams open?

    • @sew4lifeu55
      @sew4lifeu55 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      By pressing open certain seams it will reduce the bulk in the seam you will be sewing. Sometimes there are just too many layers of fabric to go through.
