- The #TopGear presenter Chris Evans has said that footage of a car performing stunts near the Cenotaph should not be included in the programme. A car carrying the American actor Matt LeBlanc -- a co-presenter of the show -- performed spins and "donuts" near the memorial -- although producers insisted it was not as close as it appeared to be in newspaper photographs. The filming was criticised for showing a lack of respect.

As an ex 22 year British military I can assure you that any squaddie, dead or not, would prefer to watch cars doing stupid things than the miserable 2 faced politicians who sent them to their deaths.

"Chrome has detected unusual behaviour" - makes me wonder what the BBC have been looking at and downloading. I think Top Gear's reboot will succeed for a while and stunts like this will probably only increase the initial viewership. But it will not maintain those figures for long without the original format and presenters.

I love how Chris Evans is fighting on twitter to "prove" this new TG is a "hit - FACT".. If you have to argue with the VIEWERS that your show is good, it isn't. The first episode got many views because people were curious about how awful it would be, and it exceeded awful expectation. Get over it, Chris.
Not even old TG would stoop this low as the old trio had respect for the forces they did races with the forces. And Evans tries to deny that it is not as bad as it was no it was disrespectful and shocking. You could still see the tyre marks on the day of the Armstice and Rememberce Parade services. They also aired it which old TG wouldn't do

It is clear that (what used to be)Top Gear itself has become a farce due to it's desperate attempts to resemble something like the brilliance Top Gear used to (re)present with it's presenters Esqs. It was just disrespectful, Jeremy liked war veterans and has done work for charities towards them, what if this car had lost control and hit it, Jeremy was controversial but he respected people who fought for him and his culture if nothing, just goes to show how bad the new top gear was, politically correct right down to the audience to where they resorted to insulting British culture, disgusting.

in all respect they did stop talked about the situation obviously and they drove off in a respectable manner you can see as they came across the wedding they immediately consulted the producers, ken and matt were both in awe when the realised that their was a wedding in progress

I loved Top Gear, but when the real cast of the show left I stopped watching. Clarkson may have thrown a punch or two but he would never have been a part of this. If the BBC made amends with the old guys and brought them back id start watching again. On a side note as an American I would like to know why the hell is there an American on the show?

This is hardly a controversy. I find it silly that people are getting so upset by it, claiming that it's in bad taste. Do you know what I think would be appropriate for such a claim? Chris Evans playing a goat's bum like a trumpet whilst having a poo in front of the memorial. Now THAT would be very much so in bad taste. But did he do that? No he didn't.
Truly, there may be some merit to these complaints, but I find it somewhat hypocritical (as many of you in the comments have pointed out) that Top Gear have done far worse things than this with their hijinks near monuments at home as well as abroad. I don't recall many complaints then. In fact, we found it entertaining especially when it was abroad. I won't even mention all of the crazy stuff Clarkson has been under fire for in the past, which were for the most part completely deserving of the media backlash. But this? This isn't worth it.
I think this highlights some of the growing problems in British culture, the beasts that are known as political correctness and being far too easily offended. Honestly, just chill out people.
Well they should learn from their mistakes, this idiotic and disrespectful stunt could of easily been avoided by them stopping and thinking about what they were about to do. The cenotaph is a memorial site were year after year we go to pay our respects to all those who have dies or are recovering from injuries sustained from fighting for our freedom.
If they can't show respect to those who have died for this county well needless to say I'm not watching the new top gear.

Chris isn't everyone's cup of tea, people just don't like a change. Top gear with the trio had a very good run, this one ruined by the AMERICAN muppet for me 😄
I think the problem is teething so to speak, they are pushing an old formula like nothing happened, everything is scripted and humour is forced, they just need to relax and let the chemistry develop and the humour will flow naturally, they need to revamp the studio too slightly, they need to cut the presenters to 3 again, too many here, they need to play it straight and focus on the cars and do reviews on normal cars again and give useful consumer advice as well as flashy cars no 1 can afford, and mostly just stop trying so hard this show existed before the 3 we know, they just have to stop trying to make a clone and let things develop naturally, rumour is James Martin to replace, I hope so love him so genuine, and he has a great knowledge in cars, they need a third man then done, it is a blessing in disguise, the show was running out with the other 3, their new show will revitalise them and be a change for them, and top gear can reinvent itself, Jeremy is actually humble and has respect for top gear, but now we have 2 shows instead of 1 good luck to both, best thing that could of happened here.

Alabama shootings, Racism, Clarkson declaring a war to almost every other country, May tried to launch a SILO Missile down Chipsky Norton, and many else... they tried too hard to copy that and without the right cast that wouldn't look funny, just offensive. I'm glad the current cast and production crew already stopped trying to copy Top Gear on its heyday and made it their own. My husband already started watching them, said it's a decent car show. I can't tho, because I don't really care about cars, I only liked the trio.

i think when chris evans assured everyone on radio that he would never replace clarkson, and then replaced him a week later he was being a lying untrustworthy man. the bbc have erased reports and evidence of him saying that as well

I miss Clarkson and the others, but let's face it, the show had become too scripted and predictable. When all is said and done, Clarkson went too far this time; another human being was involved and the BBC couldn't ignore that without looking negligent.

Chris Evans "I was away with my family this weekend" doesn't absolve you of all responsibility: you knew it was going to happen; but I'm sure you will keep cashing the cheques... Having said that, this entire "story" is a clumsy publicity stunt for the show.
The only decent thing you could do now is finally admit what everyone can see already - Chris Evans is not up to the job, this is not top gear, viewers don't want that and made it very clear. Just appologize and stop this project, stop humiliating yourself. You cannot make TV by disrespecting the viewer, just accept this simple fact.
