Can’t believe top gear ran for 7 years after the trio left, reinforces why the BBC needs defunded. No other organization who keep a garbage show like this for so long post Clarkston.
Chris Harris IS legend ..again THE BBC wasted his talents and stuck him with those other 2 gits .. i hope he finds something akin to his real talents soon !!!
Chris Harris is the absolute real deal when it comes to cars. No one ever asked Hammond , Clarkson or may to help develop a car because their just tv presenters but Harris helped develop the latest singer Porsche
Clarkson, Hammond and May were all legitimate motoring journalists, that’s why Top gear was a success, they evolved into caricatures of themselves I’ll admit but the foundation was there. Where Top gear failed was replacing them with “just tv presenters” like Chris Evans, Matt, Paddy and Freddy. Harris was the only one who had any credibility in that environment.
@@edh7492 top gear failed as it was just trying to repeat what came before and Harris is far too good as a motoring journalist so I don’t think it worked well for him, I bought top gear magazine once but I used to read EVO which in my opinion was a far better read Evans is a true car enthusiast and owner of some very unique and special cars but it just didn’t translate onto the screen . Clarkson for some is just a very entertaining person to watch , which is probably why his farm program is so popular.
@@Me-ri2ketrue, but I'd argue TG ran out of ideas a few series before Clarkson punched an assistant. Harris managed to keep it going for a few years more
Weird how Chris says reviewing cars is a risky job. This is what is fundamentally wrong with recent Top Gear in my opinion. We want to see cars being reviewed. Not people risking life’s doing stupid things in cars and drifting around a race track. Look at TH-cam videos - “boring, practical” videos car reviews get more subscribers than idiots trying to kill themselves.
Chris is an essential ingredient. Great driver, great car knowledge, great presenter and can play the fall guy for the entertainment section. Keep it going even if injuries mean substitution is needed
McGuinness was absolutely insufferable. Ego driven, shouty, exaggerated regional accent, always had to be the loudest. The only reason he got anywhere was called Peter Kay.
Top Gear was a lame and tired series kept going by a dwindling fan base. Long overdue for retirement which Clarkson et al realised like the rest of us.
Glad its over. Top Gear died when the Clarkson era ended - Clarkson, May and Hammond made it great, everyone since ruined it. Chris Harris was the only decent presenter after that era, the other 2 clowns he worked with were just a joke that wasn’t funny.
It all depends on what genre of motoring show the public wants. The Clarkson, May, Hammond & Wilman era Top Gear became more of an entertainment show, a ratings chaser that people who had no interest in cars could enjoy alongside those of us who are interested in all things automotive, and wildly successful it was too. On the other hand, a magazine style format (as per the original Top Gear from the 70s) wouldn’t be commissioned by the BBC today as it would be deemed too narrow band in appeal, not forgetting the sheer number of channel options, streaming services and non-linear viewing habits of the available audience today. For what it’s worth, Chris Harris is a motoring journalism titan and it is a shame that the public in general only really knows him for the knockabout banter of TG. If the BBC is brave enough…it isn’t…it should commission a proper consumer-focused, journalism-based magazine with Chris fronting and Harry Metcalfe, Rory Reid, Henry Catchpole, Jethro Bovingdon as contributors. Yes, we can still have tyre smoking supercars hooning around test tracks, but let’s have some editorial about the wider industry and real world motoring issues as well. I dunno, canning the odd property, culinary or lifestyle show might create schedule space….🤔 It won’t happen, more’s the pity.
Chris has the perfect foils for any such show in his Collecting Addicts podcasts. They talk about the most inane topics yet it feels like a bunch of mates at a pub, chatting over a beer, making one another laugh and hanging shit on one or other of them. Would lose something on free to air because the swearing is an essential element of the banter.
Oi Fair play you are right they should give him opportunity Especially if sexual deviant news readers get paid 2million of license payers money Just to lie to us I’d much rather they spent it on watchable programmes with relatable people as you suggested 🐜✌️💯
Always been a fan of you Chris, but the reality is, when you have a perfect recipe that was Top Gear, you can’t substitute the three main ingredients and expect it to be a successful dish. Since Jeremy Clarkson left, Top Gear has been a flop in The UK as well as the US. Sometimes anomalies are impossible to repeat. Go back to Chris Harris on cars, and we are here for it.
Flintoff's crash took place on December 13, 2022 at Dunsfold Park aerodrome in Surrey, which has been the Top Gear test track since 2002. He was driving an open-topped, three-wheel Morgan Super 3 at 130 mph when it flipped and slid along the track during filming
Thx for this as I was completely in the dark regarding the accident. Didn’t even know it had happened. Still confused why Chris is reluctant to discuss it tho?
I feel sorry for Flintoff, but he should have never been allowed to drive all these fast cars with his non existing experience. It was really inevitable and just accident waiting to happen. Paddy was also just lucky to survive without any serious incident. Harris is the only one who can handle the cars respectfully and professionally. But BBC at the end managed to ruin there biggest international show of all time. Well done...😢
Chris is very knowledgeable and deserves his own show but many would argue that The BBC committed the biggest own goal of all tv time when "the other lot" as Naga called them, were allowed to leave. Where there is a will, there is a way,as you know, and the incident(s) could, easily, have been patched up behind the scenes. It was their excuse to let a maverick and handful like Clarlson go and it was never the same again.
Sorry but I gave to disagree Chris. As a fan of Top Gear since the 80's I and anyone like me has an absolute right to know how You, Freddie, ,Paddy and the crew killed a TV program i loved and should have been bigger than all of us
Chris is a far better wheelsman than many give him credit for. A true car fanatic and an all round good guy. Happy that they’ve finally put Top Gear out to pasture; it was well past it’s sell by date.
The interviewers actually did a lovely job, didn't try and steer him towards the accident very classy ! Well done to all three on the interview it was excellent, bet Harris is still smiling
Not that they did Chris got it out of the way fairly on in the interview but there was is no point asking Chris over and over again about the accident. He was not going to divulge any details regarding it. That's and it's very much a private matter if they'd have just invited him on to talk about Flintoff's accident then it would have just been downright disrespectful.
Nobody was going to be able to follow in the footsteps of Clarkson, Hammond and May but, these guys had a crack at it, fair play to them! This show is Clarcksons baby, nobody does it better! The BBC are pathetic, these two sat on the couch not once uttered the names of Clarckson Hammond or May, they tried to cancel them! BOLLOCKS TO THE BBC! 👎💩
Flintoff and Paddy are a couple if bullies that couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding. Flintoff is especially arrogant and talentless. Hope we don't see him on tv again.
Chris has always been very diplomatic about working with "the other 2". Saying they have great chemistry, banter and having a laugh etc. But I wonder if deep down he is as relieved as the rest of us that "Freddeh's" accident has called a halt to proceedings.
I like the title. Variable valve timing. If you don't know what it is, good I don't want to waste time talking to you. Age 74 no time for non technicals
Why won't they say what actually happened to that bell end who ended TG he's getting millions compensation we should get the whys and what's instead of this nonsense
Chris describing cars as a condition is darn true for a lot of us. We all knew that about him and it's a big part of the reason many of us were drawn back to TG after the Big 3 left. God I hope he gets picked up and gets to do what he loves for all of us again.
I would love to see Chris reunite with Rory Reid to front a completely new car show. Maybe invite other car content makers from TH-cam as guest presenters
My favourite "car guy" to listen to, absolutely love his total addiction to every little detail of cars. Anyone that hasn't listened to his podcast, "Collecting addicts", go find it, you are in for a treat.
Top gear ended years ago. They tried even in the USA... But the good was already done. Chris should have his own show, if he wants to, the only journalist Ive seen describing the way he feels the car is a really acurate way!
Make Chris Harris and Henry Catchpole co-hosts of a purely automotive show together, with no kitchy nonsense, just high production value motoring content... Done... Instant hit.
Sad that Top Gear has ended. I’ve always followed Chris Harris since reading his columns in EVO magazine. The banter on Top Gear was amazing. It was genuine and huge fun.
This man, was entrusted to drive a Ferrari F40 and F50 like a real hoonigan several years ago. Both cars were owned by the same person and he knew he can trust Chris Harris with his investments. From words and works, Chris Harris really deserves to be back in the automotive journalism world because there is already many sickening "car expert presenters" who are just about style and likes than actual substance and driving dynamics. People like Supercar Blondie, Doug Demuro, Vehicle Virgins, Shmee150 as examples; they are car presenters but they are nowhere near Christ Harris as a completely packaged car reviewer with the rightful skill to truthfully say what the car's handling and performance really is about. I find it funny how those wannabes say "oh this car has amazing grip" when you don't even hear the slightest hint of tire screeching at the limit of traction.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the owner of the red Lamborghini Diablo, who entrusted his most prized possession to the driving skills and "panache" of a certain Paddy McGuinness!
Chris Harris, Tiff Needell and Quentin Wilson would have been a great line up for top gear. They could have changed the show format and let those three make the show their own. I reckon that would have been more successful than trying to get others to continue on similar format to Clarkson & co
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Harry is just far too dull a personality to work on TV. His brand of quiet car-nerdery works well on his own on TH-cam (despite his frequent factual and grammatical errors and misuse of "sort of"), but on telly, he'd be outshone too much, and I don't think his ego would cope with that. He refuses to even do collabs on TH-cam. Tiff would work better because he's loud and flamboyant.
Probably because someone messed up. Apparently Flintoff showed concern and was told it will be ok. All involved probably felt some responsibility. It’ll come out in the end.
It’s the decent thing to do for the injured person. When they’re seriously injured and it’s not clear how well they may recover, it only detracts from their wellness and their loved ones if there’s a great deal of public scrutiny/curiosity. As the public were not owed these details. I’m sure there’s been an internal investigation with outcomes. What has been reported recently, with Flintoff also speaking about the accident is that he was driving a Morgan 3 wheeler at ~130mph on the track. It overturned and slid quite some distance on its roll hoops. And while he was wearing a helmet did have facial injuries and broken ribs. There was also someone from the production crew in the car that was also injured. 130mph in a Morgan three wheeler is a speed that’s rather unsafe for a professional driver. And Flintoff isn’t a professional driver.
I've always known Chris Harris is a good bloke, listened to, read him and watched him for years. A down to earth guy, and true car enthusiast and journalist. He should have his own BBC motoring show. "Chris Harris in Gear" (you can have that one BBC, no charge!) I would watch every episode along with millions of others. Fantastic car control with lots of experience and knowledge. Go on Beeb develop a show just for CH, I dare you!!
Chris Harris hasn't hurt himself because he is a talented driver & understands the physics of fast & powerful cars! However you put 2 idiots in high performance cars that know nothing about car racing then its obviously its a recipe for disaster! Bring back Jezza & crew keep Chris Harris & also bring back Rory! Then you will get the most watched show in the world again! 🌎
He was the one serious one on TG after the other three left. I felt Freddie and Paddy were too immature and didn't have the depth of intelligent commentary that Clarkson, May and Hammond had, whereas he was the one I was interested in listening to. I felt at times Chris's frustration showed.
Chris is great - I’ve been a fan of his work since he was at autocar, having also read his stuff at what car. I always thought he was at autocar for much longer than he was but thinking back, remember missing him. Loved him, paddy and Andrew on top gear - they made it their own with their own chemistry rather than making a copy of the go’s. Gutted flint off had his accident but think stopping filming without him being able for whatever reason and allowing him to heal is so the right thing to do.
We had a chance meeting with Chris Harris at Goodwood FOS this year. He was so nice, genuine, and exactly like he was on TV. I’m a big fan, more so of his work on the Internet than Top Gear. You just know he knows a decent amount about cars and can imagine him getting stuck in to jobs in cars…if he had the time. Legend!
Absolute Legend Chris, I could listen to you for hours! I also find you to be one of the most relatable I would love to see a new high budget TV show with you as a main presenter, And also can't help thinking that you could do some great content with Hammond ! (I also love all the nerdy details of cars and love bmws and alpinas from the 80s and 90s)
what car magazine was amazing, first thing i bought when i came back to the UK as a kid, it had the JD Power survey for the year, threw out every other magazine apart from that one. could get lost for hours in car magazines, especially cos there was no video or sound, you could imagine everything in your head. Chris Harris is one of the best car journalists in the world, him and jason comisa from hagerty would great the internet if they made a show together.
He’s the only part of the newer Top Gear that I liked. I think he could have been on the former version with the better trio. The newer version I felt was three guys who were thrown together to do the show.

Chris Harris has always been very diplomatic about "the other 2". But I wonder that deep down he is secretly relieved that it has come to an end.
Why are the details of Flintoff's accident such a big secret? It seems a bit shady. They left Hammond's in the show.
@@edh7492 top gear failed as it was just trying to repeat what came before and Harris is far too good as a motoring journalist so I don’t think it worked well for him, I bought top gear magazine once but I used to read EVO which in my opinion was a far better read
Evans is a true car enthusiast and owner of some very unique and special cars but it just didn’t translate onto the screen .
Clarkson for some is just a very entertaining person to watch , which is probably why his farm program is so popular.
@@Me-ri2ketrue, but I'd argue TG ran out of ideas a few series before Clarkson punched an assistant. Harris managed to keep it going for a few years more
To be fair the original trio did design Geoff & the P45, I wouldn’t have hired them either.
Top Gear died years ago, Chris Harris and his co-stars were a shadow of what the show used to be.
Top Gear is Clarkson Hammond and May nothing else compares never will
Love Chris Harris .Fred and Paddy ruined top gear with their over inflated egos and got sick of hearing how Fred was a top class cricketer
Won't speak about a accident funded by UK public ? Flintoff paid out millions joke 😂
McGuinness was absolutely insufferable. Ego driven, shouty, exaggerated regional accent, always had to be the loudest. The only reason he got anywhere was called Peter Kay.
Shocker alert....
Ex cricket player crashes a car!
Perhaps they should have employed somebody who could actually drive?
Flintoff and McGuinness are a pair of chumps and completely ruined TG. Harris was wasted on TG.
Love Chris Harris. Can watch and listen to him for hours. A very interesting and entertaining gentleman.
100 % agree
Top Gear was a lame and tired series kept going by a dwindling fan base. Long overdue for retirement which Clarkson et al realised like the rest of us.
Glad its over. Top Gear died when the Clarkson era ended - Clarkson, May and Hammond made it great, everyone since ruined it. Chris Harris was the only decent presenter after that era, the other 2 clowns he worked with were just a joke that wasn’t funny.
The only real car enthusiast on the show
it's a shame top gear has finished but what a great guy Chris is 👍
It all depends on what genre of motoring show the public wants.
I dunno, canning the odd property, culinary or lifestyle show might create schedule space….🤔
It won’t happen, more’s the pity.
Oi
Fair play you are right they should give him opportunity
Especially if sexual deviant news readers get paid 2million of license payers money
Just to lie to us
I’d much rather they spent it on watchable programmes with relatable people as you suggested
🐜✌️💯
That would be epic
Top bloke and an outstanding automotive journalist.
The reports I have read state the speed at the time of the accident as 22mph.
I'm just glad we don't ever have to hear from the bloke from Bolton
Since Freddie Flintoff joined he seemed reckless and I couldn’t help think he was going to injure someone else.
The BBC wanted him to be reckless ' coz Freddeh luv's a good laf, innit?
Top gear was never the same after jc left
Sorry but I gave to disagree Chris.
As a fan of Top Gear since the 80's I and anyone like me has an absolute right to know how You, Freddie, ,Paddy and the crew killed a TV program i loved and should have been bigger than all of us
Chris is a far better wheelsman than many give him credit for. A true car fanatic and an all round good guy. Happy that they’ve finally put Top Gear out to pasture; it was well past it’s sell by date.
Well at least he did actually race cars, which I don't think Clarkson and co did, he wasn't the greatest racer, but a fair amateur,
The interviewers actually did a lovely job, didn't try and steer him towards the accident very classy ! Well done to all three on the interview it was excellent, bet Harris is still smiling
Thought the same, refreshing to see
Not that they did Chris got it out of the way fairly on in the interview but there was is no point asking Chris over and over again about the accident. He was not going to divulge any details regarding it. That's and it's very much a private matter if they'd have just invited him on to talk about Flintoff's accident then it would have just been downright disrespectful.
Agreed. It was a low speed spill in a 3 wheeler, the end.
A genuine gent and passionate force in motor journalism, he could front his own show, his Harris on Cars on TH-cam is still watched and gains views.
I like the title. Variable valve timing. If you don't know what it is, good I don't want to waste time talking to you. Age 74 no time for non technicals
Chris is awesome. So awesome in his descriptions and about Top Gear, so calm and professional - what a super fella! Respect
Chris is another level ... He is different ... We just love him.
aquarius are different from all
Why won't they say what actually happened to that bell end who ended TG he's getting millions compensation we should get the whys and what's instead of this nonsense
Only worth watching because of Chris really after the Chris Evans and LeBlanc fiasco
Give Harris a proper Prime time car show. Proper reviews, his enthuasiasm is infectious
Chris, Johnny Smith and Rich Porter just doing what they currently do would be brilliant.
It ended when May,Hammond and Clarkson were no longer involved...
He is a top genuine guy who says it how it is. His knowledge of cars must give him another show. Best of luck for the future
Chris Harris was the best of the new line up , at least he could drive
Chris Harris, Tiff Needell and Quentin Wilson would have been a great line up for top gear. They could have changed the show format and let those three make the show their own. I reckon that would have been more successful than trying to get others to continue on similar format to Clarkson & co
Including Harry Metcalfe.
The BBC dropped an almighty bollock sacking Clarkson.Everyone knows it...even next doors cat.
BBC - go woke, go broke. They sacrificed billions in revenue for their hatred of a man who had charisma and talent but didn’t fit their profile.
It's a shame Chris Harris hasn't got his own car show..
He was a great blend of what Top Gear was while also being himself and that's why he's brilliant
Please BBC give that man whatever he wants to make whatever kind of car show that suits him and millions will watch. If you book him, they will come
I dont get why this accident is shrouded in fanatical secrecy......why?
Probably because someone messed up. Apparently Flintoff showed concern and was told it will be ok. All involved probably felt some responsibility. It’ll come out in the end.
He didn’t have a helmet on and rolled an open top car.
I suspect the answer is that it was quite a grizzly thing to see.
And Flintoff isn’t a professional driver.
gimme Harris, Mat Watson (carWOW) and Alex Kerston (Car Throttle) as the new frontmen of Top Gear
Clarkson and crew will never be duplicated
Legend!
Chris, Henry and Sutcliffe get your own show going please!
Been watching Chris on youtube for years. Always knew he would end up on the telly.
Absolute Legend Chris, I could listen to you for hours! I also find you to be one of the most relatable
I would love to see a new high budget TV show with you as a main presenter,
And also can't help thinking that you could do some great content with Hammond !
Chris is a motoring legend and a hell of a driver love the way he describes the geeky stuff 😂
He’s the only part of the newer Top Gear that I liked. I think he could have been on the former version with the better trio. The newer version I felt was three guys who were thrown together to do the show.
