Today we are going to solve Boot Error 0xc0000098 on Windows 11: This Boot error 0xc0000098 is caused by a corrupted Boot Configuration Data (BCD) for short. This Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) normally happens when you boot Windows and it was not able to load operating system correctleyl because of the corrupt BCD file. The Boot Error 0xc0000098 will shut the computer down straightaway and restart stopping you from booting in to windows desktop. Use the follow commands below to resolve the issue.
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootsect /nt60 sys
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
chkdsk C: /f /r /x
sfc /scannow

For everyone having trouble with "path not found" or "c:/boot not avaible", I finally solved it with the following commands at the command prompt:
bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
bootrec /rebuidbcd
a (for all)
exit
Then resume the starting process.

The problem with the use of a failing hard drive is that all new PCs are shipping with SSDs do they still get bad sectors and other warning signs of drive failures like their mechanical counterparts?
SSD do fail and cause intermittent problems as well.

Hi, I followed every step but after using bootrec /rebuildbcd it said "Identified Windows Installations: 1 C:\Windows Add instalation to boot list? Yes(Y) /No(N) /All(A). Inputting Y o N it says" The system cannot find the path specified". Any ideas on what I can do next?

It was fixed for me!
I used a 'windows 10 boot usb drive', you can probably find it at a local electronics store. Make a call to see if they have it and go save your laptop.
at the beginning, did you change the directory to C: in the cmd prompt by typing "c:" then enter?
To troubleshoot and resolve the BCD error code 0xc0000098 preventing Windows 11 from booting, follow these steps:
1. Create a Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive or DVD Installation Media.
2. Run a disk check to fix any disk errors on the C partition.
3. Rebuild the BCD using a USB drive or third-party software like EaseUS Partition Master Professional.
4. Repair the Master Boot Record (MBR), Boot Sector, and Boot Configuration Data (BCD).
5. Run Startup Repair.
6. Run the System File Checker (SFC) Utility.
7. Run a CHKDSK Scan.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the BCD error code 0xc0000098 preventing Windows 11 from booting.

I don't know how but seems like my C: has now become F: it's F: in the cmd is showing all the files that are supposed to be in the C: drive, then once I press enter after the bootrec /rebuiltbcd it says total identified windows 1 add installation to boot list? Yes (Y)/ No (N)/All(A) I choose Y then it says The system cannot find the path specified, please help me fix this!!

TYVM. This video brought my Win11 PC back from the BSOD startuo. I caused this to occur after entering my BIOS from within Windows 11 settings because I was having a problem entering the BIOD from the keyboard DEL key during bootup. Aftering entering the BIOS setup and confirming some settings and exiting without changes I then to my horror was greeted with the BSOD your video covers. I was not having any issues... weird stuff. Checked SSD for errors and none were found. Awesome video.
My laptop's had the exact same issue, how did you resolve the issue? I followed the cmd instructions and it came up with a different answer to the last promt shown in the video, mine said something along the lines of "total identified number of windows installations: 1. Add installations to boot list? Yes (Y)/No (N)/ All (A)"
After 12 hours of searching si almost lost hope as I had alot of data and work that could’ve been lost, it finally worked thank you so much.

Great video but in my case I came across this error Error 0xc0000098 while trying to install windows 10 on a brand new Hard disk. The disk is EFI Based System & HDD. How can i manage to get pass over this if i do not have anything installed yet? I do have a windows 10 bootable usb stick & also tried with the media creation tool usb to get access to command prompt. I really do not understand why i am having this issue, please any tip would be very welcoming. Thanks

Hi tried the steps closely. got stuck at bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup. I received " the store export operation has failed. The system has attempted to load or restore a file into he registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format". What should I do to fix this?

Good one Brian this shows a few options that I wasn't aware of. Now would using an image from an external drive do the same thing and is this possible in a blue screen situattion?

Does the command line work only for windows 10 or will the command’s also work on windows server 2008, 2012, 2016 hyper V?
Bootrec will work with Windows Server, but I would not start running commands willy-nilly on Windows Server, remember its a server not a desktop computer.

So my problem is unique.
I just built my pc. First boot i was in bios to use a usb and install windows.
Couldnt find the usb so hit save and exit.
Now it wont boot at all. My tv says "no input".
Did i ruin my motherboard before i got to even use it?
if you have a graphics card, you should connect your tv with the graphics card instead of the motherboard. should help

If you find you have multiple primary partitions
Try the one with the biggest size under the heading "size"

From the Recovery window I can only get to the UEFI screen that gives you a choice of PC Info, Date and Time, Management and Exit.

Dell and HP have built-in diagnostics, Dell is F12 and HP is F2. When the PC boots, keep taping the key until you get the option to run diagnostic, HP choose system tests then run a full scan, and for Dell it'll run a basic scan and will eventually ask if you want to run a full or advanced scan.

Totally worked!!! Could not boot the damn thing at all. But it was booting with a recovery thumb drive in a USB port. But as soon as I removed it, it could not boot on its own. How can this ridiculously complicated operating system not be able to do this itself, automatically?
