- Near Mildura (way up in the North West of Victoria) there was a report of a tiny little orange bird that had made its way from Central Australia to the edge of Victoria.... the ORANGE CHAT.
Being on our Mallee trip, we weren't far from Mildura so saw the opportunity to go & see if we could get a glimpse of this stunning bird while we were in transit.
We really only had 30 minutes to devote to this search but did have ebird information to direct us to where the little bird had last been seen. We parked ourselves on the orange dirt road. The binoculars focussed and the cameras poised..... and there it was!!
What a stunner of a bird! Birdwatching is often like searching for a needle in a haystack. Sometimes you see nothing. Sometimes you see what you went searching for! This time we were lucky and we were very happy with our success! And... it's not often that Tom & Nimal are speechless!!

yes, very pretty bird!! So cool to see ~ Karen
Even better when you get to see the white-fronted, crimson and orange chat all on that stretch of road. I love having Mildura as my birding base.
Now that would be great to see!! You live in a fabulous spot. We really like Mildura 😀
Great work
Thank you so much for watching! 😀
This is so cool. Love your reactions
It's not often that Nimal & Tom are speechless! haha! 🤣~ Karen
So cute. What good spotting, you guys.
Just lucky this time! 😀 But we did have the ebird information so that helped so much!! But you never know if the birdie will still be there enjoying the surroundings at the time of the visit!

The chat has left the building.

Well done on finding one so early in the season! I usually get those at Lake Tyrell 😊
oh brilliant! 😃 We're heading back to Sea Lake & Lake Tyrrell in our next trip! Hope we get to see another one! ~ Karen
Well done , have had no luck finding this one myself only recently on a trip
I think it was a bit of luck and determination on this one! Nimal & Tom were very keen to see it... but luck kicked in & it was one of those "turn up & there is was" moments! ~ Karen
Great bird and it was truly a wonderful day! We will always remember today. We can never thank you enough. I hope someday we can in some way reciprocate. Please keep in touch. Jim
