For me this game is much is much better then AC4, plus your are being hunted too, and they can kill you... there is a felling of awareness in your surroundings... I enjoyed Rogue more then Blackflag,

I probably enjoyed Rogue more as well. But it was fucking annoying whenever you tried to sneak up on someone during a mission, only for an assassin to come out of nowhere: "SURPRISE, BITCH!"...

Still baffled at why there is no cross gen on this one. Yeah its still using the last gen engine... okay but Black Flag had a PS4 and One release. Why not this? And if Ubisoft are playing coy and going to release it six months from now or whatever as a ploy to try and move more last gen units that's just stupid. Plenty of people that still haven't adopted the new gen yet that would still buy on PS3 and 360.

What I personally disliked in this review and also his Unity review, is he seems to hate the franchise to begin with. So obviously he won't appreciate the characters or story, because he's not into it. If he were, he'd know this is a solid game.
Watch how these degenerates at IGN give Far Cry 4 a 7 or something, I've played it an early access event and from the core it's mouthwatering; 9/9.5. Oh well.

6 ?! Rogue is really awesome! I would give it at least 7. Come on, it's a new chapter in the ac saga. AC Rev didn't take the franchise to another level but it was still better than AC 3 (for me). Rogue also has a a set of charismatic characters such as Haytham Kenway, the only character I liked as much as an Ezio's trilogy character. There is also the whole freedom you got used to in Black flag back here, and a whole new story to play through. AC was always about the story, and Rogue's story is really original for the franchise. So don't listen to them, buy Rogue.

People if you are wondering if you should buy this, YES, it never tried to fool you into thinking this was going to be next gen, they always told you that this was a game on last gen engine. If you had fun with black flag, know that this game not only had improvements over it but it has also the best story told in the franchise, a very likable protagonist which managed to surpass my previous favorite which is astonishing and the gameplay is similar to black flag with minor improvements, the setting although not better than black flag in my view is still beautiful and a delight to watch. The game doesn't promise you something that it can't deliver unlike Unity. Unity is just a failed experiment that they couldn't deliver, certainly the way to move forward technically but they weren't ready yet so they should have taken more time to finish the game. Paris does look gorgeously pretty but if the game doesn't work properly and it is painfully excruciating to play at times with all those technical issues, not to mention it has a flat protagonist who has nothing going on for him in terms of personality and a boring story with a pisspoor ending it is not worth it.
Well, i bough the collectors edition for Assassin's Creed Rouge on PS3 :) I havent played more than just the intro yet, so im not gonna judge it but it looks intriguing, and neat...haha after the intro when the played Randy Dandy :D I was actually thinking about the song, and BAAM it just popped up, and wow....Well, i atleast loved Black Flag, so i don't think i will disslike this game :) I know people seem to be bugged with the naval combat...but for me that's just a bonus...from the everyday parkour and stealth assassinations :) I am not a templar, by any means..but i think this game will show the other side of the coin, as we actually get inside the templar order. And as said previous, no side are really evil, all they really want is peace, but there are just diffrent ways of getting there...i see the templars as somewhat conservative, christians traditonalist that have a pretty clear path of how things should be, and are keen on obtaining order. Assassin brotherhood is hard to box in, but they have definently liberal values...almost close to anarchistic at times, in my opinion. They want people to take controll of there own lives, and not be submitted with rules, i guess...there you have my point of you :)
......... the only bugs in Unity have been discovered that most of them were fixed with the day 1 patch. Which means people who still are experiencing bugs, just pirated it. Unity is anything but a failed experiment.
Keithider This isn't Far Cry smartass, take your pirating comments elsewhere as i do not indulge in such practices... I play on PS4. The problems are there even with the day 1 patch, i imagine that eventually they'll be getting slowly fixed, and some of the bugs have been improved since but the game is still dreadful to play at times as of now and doubt the game will ever run at a smooth 30 FPS as they "intended".

Why not go back to older games mate, why not dwell in ferelden on Dragon age origins, hunt those that made you a criminal in Dishonored, hunt-survive-adapt in Far cry 3, or if you are into retro games go to GOG.com and pick yourself planescape torment or neverwinter Nights or if you are feeling really bored and dont feel like going to older games pick up This war of mine , an indie game with alot of potential ; ofc this is only my advice

nah, this game should get a solid 7.5 to me, and AC Unity is a 6. this game got something new to the storyline for AC universe and it's a big improvements to all aspects from AC 4 Black Flag. it also more polished and almost bugs free. Instead, I am still really hard to appreciate AC unity because the MAJOR bugs and ridiculous microtransaction system while bringing back the root of the AC and some cool aspects like customization.

I played the game it wasn't bad it had less bugs than Ac unity. The story was very interesting and wasn't that bad. They could do better with voice acting but wasn't that bad. I gave the game a B-. the graphics wasn't that bad and New York felt more alive then AC 3. When The game gets cheaper try it out you might like it and it's your opinion to think about it. If they add more reason why he left the brother hood and turn in to a Templar that would make the game better.

Gamespot have just become IGN 2.0, what is their problem? Rogue is so much better than Black Flag, both in story and gameplay. I know there was next to no change in gameplay mechanics but if you ask me...no change was needed. Also they seem to forget to mention that their are far less tailing mission, which is what we wanted but isn't appreciated here and for CHRIST SAKE we don't need multiplayer. For shame Gamespot

Erik Johannessen black flag was good but the best parts of it are the pirate sections/ship battles which have nothing to with assassins. The best part of a game should be in the title and AC lost it (maybe never had it).
I hear a lot of people prefer the ship based stuff to standard assassins creed gameplay..honestly i dont understand it because mechanically its a lot simpler..and there is less to see in the open waters and combat is standard point and shoot. But look its my opinion but id like to hear from someone who does like this stuff...and why ?
I felt that with Assassins Creed 4 they needed naval combat and open world sailing to be involved because it was based on pirates. They incorporated the ship exploring and battles excellently for that game. I wouldn't want to see it in other games though to be honest. But it did make Assassins Creed 4 more fun.
I think the ship warfare takes away from the game. You are supposed to be an assassin, stealthy, and smart. With the ships you just blow stuff up, and while it sounds like fun, for me it just takes away from the assassin aspect. They should have called black flag pirate creed and not put it as a part of the assassins creed franchise
I know what you mean, but Kenway doesn't start out as an assassin and didn't become one until towards the end of the game. In land you have to be stealthy and in the sea you have to choose your battles and position yourself correctly. But like I said before no other assassins creed game should have ship battles and sailing involved. But that's my opinion and I understand exactly what you're talking about. I just disagree a little bit, but respect your opinion.
Naval combat was a fine addition to the game. It added something completely new to the gameplay instead of the same old stuff. Too bad they didn't put it in Unity.

I think I'm done with Ubisoft for a long time. They are becoming the next Activision with all of their franchises. Far cry 4 to me looks like far cry 3 set in Nepal with a few new toys, it is nothing compared to the huge difference between far cry 2 and 3.
Wtf? What a bad review. This game has improved over some of black flags mechanics. The world ist huge and for explorers really a cool place to be. Sailing through the ice at night with the northern lights tingling over your head is fucking gorgeous. Shay is a quite understandable Charakter and his motivations are much clearer than of the other assassins or in particular Edwards. You will get to know that the templars are not just the mindless Fucks which kill everyone just for their own cause and that the difference between the assassins and the templers is really not that big because they have the same goal but different ways to get there. I think everyone which loves assassins creed black flag and 3 should give this game a chance.
What? The characters and story are the best since AC2 maybe exept for Black Flag. If you're a true AC fan and know the entire story you will love this though it it very short

The game is good. I got it on release and i dont regret it. But if they had just taken a little more time to make the missions a little more interesting and long, and complicated story, the game might actually be worth everyone's time. The game is good if you follow the franchise's story. But the game is clearly not for everybody.
I actually like this game. Solid buy. I enjoyed how it takes elements from AC 3 and 4 and blends them together. It delivered exactly what it promised (nothing new but some slight improvements compared to black flag) and runs smoothly. 8/10
Thinking of it, this review all pretty much all comments come from nowhere. Just by Example, God of War franchise was ALWAYS the same thing with small different story, but all reviews and gamers loves it, only Ascension being a bit dissapointing. Pure same thing on AC and COD, same formula, but comments, reviews go IN ANY DIRECTION! Live with it, gaming has arrive to this: scare to do something new, so always same formula, very rare difference... it repeats itself. Only indie games finds new ways, but many gamers have this weird way of seeing... Indie game = shit game. People that things that surely are the 1 that only play COD, Madden... same formula!

For Ubi, EA, Activision, etc, 2D dont exist anymore, Nothing this year comes to mind for me. Especially in 2014, Indie games (Dust: Elysian Tail (I know 2 years ago on 360 was free for PS+, Velocity 2X, Strider, Transistor, Mercenary Kings, New & Tasty (classic for PS1), etc... were FAR BETTER then AAA games this year!
The gaming industrie is making the same mistake like the movie industrie did nothing more,AC 1 whas good not super but good ac 2 builded on that and whas super then they thought okay 2 was perfect lets bring in inovation with 3 that failed.They took the gd things out 3 and builded it in to ac 4 but still ac 2 whas overshadowing.Now with next gen they thought they had the opurtunity and power to get bk to ac 2 lvl and suprise people but it failed like it always does.Look at the history in movie's.And this is happening with allot of game's look at dice most of the battlefield fan boys loved bad company 2 but the devs even came out and said we have no clue why the comunity like it or what we did that whas so gd and they go searching wat ends up in disaster(bf4) instead of trying to build on succes things need to stop with a serious end and new ip need to flow forward from it.Thats the only way.But like said above somethime's inovation is not needed and people just want the same but different story and why not right?if a franchise can pull it off perfect:)
So when's this game gonna be ported to next-gen consoles? Because really, at this point, that's the only way I'll ever pick up this game at all. In fact, I wouldn't mind it if they made a next-gen Assassin's Creed collection, where they could fix all the gameplay issues the first couple of games had, with high-res graphics and more gameplay variation similar to what we're seeing now. I got this game on my birthday, played it, and I'm loving it so far. AC Rogue, is honestly, just as interesting as Black Flag and AC III, but we can do SO much more and it's WAY more challenging, as a templar. Assassin's are hunting you, capturing hideouts, renovate buildings and etc. I do see that people don't like the idea of "Assassin turned templar". Although, i can understand that, because we're used to play as an assassin from the very beginning of the franchise. But, really... there's no point in giving Rogue so much hate, just because it starts off with a ship, or that you turn to a freelancer assassin, and then to an official templar. I start to love Rogue, because I thought it have a decent story and decent characters, AND ofcourse, to play as a templar. I mean, Assassin's Creed, are about, NOT just Assassin's. But Templars as well. So why wouldn't Ubisoft think it would be interesting to play as an assassin that turned templar?! I mean, if we're just going to play as an Assassin for the whole franchise, it wouldn't be Assassin's Creed much, would it? In Unity we start off as a templar for a few minutes. In Rogue, we start off as an Assassin, but then turns templar for the rest of the game. Speaking of AC Unity, it's been rushed by leaving MASSIVE game bugs and glitches in the game. Wich, of course, made Arno look like an faceless monkey. And my sister's been doing research on Unity, and it's pretty short when it comes to story and history wise. It lacks so much of it, but that's because it's Ubisofts first next-gen game of the AC franchise. So, of course, it would be lots of problems with it. While Rogue is not rushed, in history, gameplay and story wise But, i would imagine they fixed Unity's problems.. though, i'm not getting my hopes up. Now that's out of the way. I, honestly, think Rogue is absoulutely BEAUTIFUL. It's got a fine story, decent characters and good character development, and great gameplay experience for a ps3 game. I will rate AC Rogue 8.7/10. Good job Ubisoft. And please, don't rush AC Victory.
Rogue really needed to be longer. Assassin's Creed III and Black Flag were the first games to show me that the Templars aren't actually all that evil. Sure some Templars abuse their power, but some of them are actually trying to do good. For example Benjamin Hornigold in Black Flag, pirate turned Templar. He changed sides because he saw that the life of a pirate was going nowhere and Nassau was doomed, but as a Templar with plenty of resources he could make the region safe from people like Charles Vane and Jack Rackham, the pirates that just wanted to plunder and kill. I adore Hornigold's character arc, I just wish we saw more. Woodes Rogers and the governor are also interesting. Most Templars are not evil (it seems most people that play these games see the world in black and white, good and evil, no ambiguity) but actually trying to improve things. Everyone who is evil is a Templar, but not all Templars are evil. The Borgia family from AC II Brotherhood were evil people wanting control, that is true. Haytham Kenway is not the most likeable person either, but he's seen the Assassin side of things and chose otherwise. The Assassins in Rogue seem to be just as colorblind as many players. Put the title "Templar" on someone and they are instantly evil. Shay Cormac gets a chance to see the other side and joins them. Achilles and the Assassins were meddling with technology they did not understand and killed thousands of people in the process. But the Templars are also just as reckless in some cases! Both sides are capable of good and evil. Assassin's Creed should have more of that. Rogue should have been longer and more fleshed out, because the characters as they are might be interesting, but very rushed. There could have been plenty of moments where the two sides battle through their beliefs, and Shay has a few moments where he wonders if he is doing the right thing. But nothing really comes from that. I want the Assassin's Creed series to take a few more risks with its characters, change it up like Black Flag did. Edward Kenway's character arc was one of the best I have ever seen to this day. He started with certain ideals, his beliefs were put to the test, and his opinions changed and his worldview would never be the same. He lost his closest friends and learned about himself and the consequences of his actions like no other character. Damn fantastic character and a very fun game. I think Shay Cormac could have been the same if the game was longer, with his evolution fleshed out. Unity seems to just go back to the norm, back to the Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed II days. Back to what is familiar, but rushed to impress people with next gen graphics and whatnot. For me Black Flag was a 9/10 because of characters and the amount of fun I had. Rogue is a 7/10 only because of how short it is. It would be an 8 to 9 if it was longer and more fleshed out. Unity is about 7/10 as well. *Edits may come in future*

As a long time fan of the series I have to say Rogue is stronger than it may look when it comes to the story. I usually don't pick at reviews, it's all opinions afterall, but I think it should be noted that this games target audience is the loyal fan base. There's no introduction that summarizes the previous games and they expect you to be a bit invested in AC lore, to understand the significance of certain events. It's a breath of fresh air built on the well received platform that is Black Flag. Totally worth $60 in my eyes and a good farewell to Assassins Creed on my trusty old PS3.
And they say nintendo milks the shit out of mario. I like to see ubsoft excuse as to why this game didn't come to the wii u. Just completed this game a few minutes ago. Been putting it off because I heard bad reviews about it. In my honest opinion, those reviews are a load of shite. I enjoyed this game more than I enjoyed black flag, and I think it was on par with freedom cry. The characters were actually properly developed.
I just want Ubisoft to upgrade the old-gen assassins's creed engine to contain the new-gen navigation system. This just makes the AC games better because they are only gonna change the parkour and not the graphics so the old-gen systems should probably be able to handle them.
Black Flag is the most overrated game in years. I hate that shit. The only thing I liked about it was that it had sea hunting missions. Rogue surpasses Black Flag in almost every way. Hell, even the scenery was better looking in Rogue.

I'm looking forward to this game. I loved AC4 and the sailing, songs, and combat. I really wish they would make a pure pirate game separate from the AC world with all the naval combat and a good story.
I know its an old review. But damn are you wrong. The story is amazing. Absolutely loved the fact we could finally see the everlasting fight through the eyes of a Templar. Shay is IMO the best AC character next to Ezio.
also I can't be the only one that after playing this game (half way in ATM), that I feel like the Templars are going about things the right way and I feel like I wanna side with them now over the assassins
It seems when they aren't milking old engines relentlessly they are proving they don't know how to program with new ones. I was surprised to see that the sheer OUTRAGE of how buggy Unity was actually caused it's stock to drop by over 12% Thankyou for saving me £40 Gamespot. Brutally honest journalism is becoming a rare thing in this community these days.
For me the story is something new and exciting because you see yourself as the enemy and returning characters like Adewale,Haytham and Younger Achiles are a nice experience.The Naval combat is really fun for me. It is also intense to see random assassins pop out of nowhere and try to kill you. I really like rogue :D.

This score is way too low. Rogue destroys Unity, but it's not quite on par with Black Flag. I would put it on the same level as AC3, maybe not quite as good. But overall it's great. Big world, lots to go, awesome setting and unique take on an AC story. I'll be trying to get the Platinum for it in January 2017.
All the AC games are mechanically the same mostly since the very first game (maybe Unity not quite as much i dunno never played it) and Gamespot gave Black Flag a 9/10. I would agree that the game is a 6 or 6.5/10 far as bang for the buck is concerned that is for sure. If your a AC fan and have nothing else your playing or buying soon id be worth the purchase in my opinion. Otherwise wait for the game to go on sale cheap, I mean if you liked Black Flag their is enough new about Rogue that you will want to play it.
I did not like this review. Not because it had a go on a good game that should have had a higher score but the way the review was conducted from ones biased opinion. It was, dare I say unprofessional and rather of the point, whereas the game improves on Black Flag in many areas and where it also has what many would call a better story, which I also think it is in my opinion as a gamer. Yes, this game has the same mechanics practically, and the HUD looks very much the same, and those are the down sides of the game for some fans but they are not downsides that will have damaged your positive point on the cast, story and setting. It doesn't matter..game reviewers especially Ign and Gamespot gonna always have somebody that gonna talk great about a game or bash a game. Ign is still giving Madden top scores when it's the same fucking game every fucking year. It seriously doesn't make sense that Black Flag with its naval combat got a huge score and another game that follows it progress but instead we arent an assassin. We're actually a Templar during that same time would get a low score. It's all his opinion and it's a easy way to get views comments and people like me scratching my head. Reviewers like this will complain about Assassin's Creed's lack of innovation, but will give the new Call Of Duty, FIFA, Madden, Battlefield etc games a 9/10 every year, I'm calling bullshit, nothing wrong with those games I actually love all of them, but my point is game's don't have to amazingly innovative or cutting edge to be great games, they just have to play well, be fun and be engaging.

I hate shay cormack. I’ve said it a dozen times playing this game. From the simple inability to do parkour sometimes to my least favorite character, this game is awful. It made me uncomfortable to play as the villain. 1/10 just for the ability to pet the dogs.

Still baffled at why there is no cross gen on this one. Yeah its still using the last gen engine... okay but Black Flag had a PS4 and One release. Why not this? And if Ubisoft are playing coy and going to release it six months from now or whatever as a ploy to try and move more last gen units that's just stupid. Plenty of people that still haven't adopted the new gen yet that would still buy on PS3 and 360.

6 ?! Rogue is really awesome! I would give it at least 7. Come on, it's a new chapter in the ac saga. AC Rev didn't take the franchise to another level but it was still better than AC 3 (for me). Rogue also has a a set of charismatic characters such as Haytham Kenway, the only character I liked as much as an Ezio's trilogy character. There is also the whole freedom you got used to in Black flag back here, and a whole new story to play through. AC was always about the story, and Rogue's story is really original for the franchise. So don't listen to them, buy Rogue.

People if you are wondering if you should buy this, YES, it never tried to fool you into thinking this was going to be next gen, they always told you that this was a game on last gen engine.
If you had fun with black flag, know that this game not only had improvements over it but it has also the best story told in the franchise, a very likable protagonist which managed to surpass my previous favorite which is astonishing and the gameplay is similar to black flag with minor improvements, the setting although not better than black flag in my view is still beautiful and a delight to watch.
The game doesn't promise you something that it can't deliver unlike Unity.
Unity is just a failed experiment that they couldn't deliver, certainly the way to move forward technically but they weren't ready yet so they should have taken more time to finish the game. Paris does look gorgeously pretty but if the game doesn't work properly and it is painfully excruciating to play at times with all those technical issues, not to mention it has a flat protagonist who has nothing going on for him in terms of personality and a boring story with a pisspoor ending it is not worth it.

Well, i bough the collectors edition for Assassin's Creed Rouge on PS3 :) I havent played more than just the intro yet, so im not gonna judge it but it looks intriguing, and neat...haha after the intro when the played Randy Dandy :D I was actually thinking about the song, and BAAM it just popped up, and wow....Well, i atleast loved Black Flag, so i don't think i will disslike this game :) I know people seem to be bugged with the naval combat...but for me that's just a bonus...from the everyday parkour and stealth assassinations :) I am not a templar, by any means..but i think this game will show the other side of the coin, as we actually get inside the templar order. And as said previous, no side are really evil, all they really want is peace, but there are just diffrent ways of getting there...i see the templars as somewhat conservative, christians traditonalist that have a pretty clear path of how things should be, and are keen on obtaining order. Assassin brotherhood is hard to box in, but they have definently liberal values...almost close to anarchistic at times, in my opinion. They want people to take controll of there own lives, and not be submitted with rules, i guess...there you have my point of you :)
......... the only bugs in Unity have been discovered that most of them were fixed with the day 1 patch. Which means people who still are experiencing bugs, just pirated it. Unity is anything but a failed experiment.

The problems are there even with the day 1 patch, i imagine that eventually they'll be getting slowly fixed, and some of the bugs have been improved since but the game is still dreadful to play at times as of now and doubt the game will ever run at a smooth 30 FPS as they "intended".

nah, this game should get a solid 7.5 to me, and AC Unity is a 6. this game got something new to the storyline for AC universe and it's a big improvements to all aspects from AC 4 Black Flag. it also more polished and almost bugs free. Instead, I am still really hard to appreciate AC unity because the MAJOR bugs and ridiculous microtransaction system while bringing back the root of the AC and some cool aspects like customization.

I played the game it wasn't bad it had less bugs than Ac unity. The story was very interesting and wasn't that bad. They could do better with voice acting but wasn't that bad. I gave the game a B-. the graphics wasn't that bad and New York felt more alive then AC 3. When The game gets cheaper try it out you might like it and it's your opinion to think about it. If they add more reason why he left the brother hood and turn in to a Templar that would make the game better.

I hear a lot of people prefer the ship based stuff to standard assassins creed gameplay..honestly i dont understand it because mechanically its a lot simpler..and there is less to see in the open waters and combat is standard point and shoot. I felt that with Assassins Creed 4 they needed naval combat and open world sailing to be involved because it was based on pirates. They incorporated the ship exploring and battles excellently for that game. I wouldn't want to see it in other games though to be honest. But it did make Assassins Creed 4 more fun.
I think the ship warfare takes away from the game. You are supposed to be an assassin, stealthy, and smart. With the ships you just blow stuff up, and while it sounds like fun, for me it just takes away from the assassin aspect. They should have called black flag pirate creed and not put it as a part of the assassins creed franchise
I know what you mean, but Kenway doesn't start out as an assassin and didn't become one until towards the end of the game. In land you have to be stealthy and in the sea you have to choose your battles and position yourself correctly. But like I said before no other assassins creed game should have ship battles and sailing involved. But that's my opinion and I understand exactly what you're talking about. I just disagree a little bit, but respect your opinion.

I think I'm done with Ubisoft for a long time. They are becoming the next Activision with all of their franchises. Far cry 4 to me looks like far cry 3 set in Nepal with a few new toys, it is nothing compared to the huge difference between far cry 2 and 3.

Wtf? What a bad review. This game has improved over some of black flags mechanics. The world ist huge and for explorers really a cool place to be. Sailing through the ice at night with the northern lights tingling over your head is fucking gorgeous. Shay is a quite understandable Charakter and his motivations are much clearer than of the other assassins or in particular Edwards. You will get to know that the templars are not just the mindless Fucks which kill everyone just for their own cause and that the difference between the assassins and the templers is really not that big because they have the same goal but different ways to get there. I think everyone which loves assassins creed black flag and 3 should give this game a chance.

But if they had just taken a little more time to make the missions a little more interesting and long, and complicated story, the game might actually be worth everyone's time. The game is good if you follow the franchise's story. But the game is clearly not for everybody.

For Ubi, EA, Activision, etc, 2D dont exist anymore, Nothing this year comes to mind for me. Especially in 2014, Indie games (Dust: Elysian Tail (I know 2 years ago on 360 was free for PS+, Velocity 2X, Strider, Transistor, Mercenary Kings, New & Tasty (classic for PS1), etc... were FAR BETTER then AAA games this year!

I got this game on my birthday, played it, and I'm loving it so far. AC Rogue, is honestly, just as interesting as Black Flag and AC III, but we can do SO much more and it's WAY more challenging, as a templar. Assassin's are hunting you, capturing hideouts, renovate buildings and etc. I do see that people don't like the idea of "Assassin turned templar". Although, i can understand that, because we're used to play as an assassin from the very beginning of the franchise.
But, really... there's no point in giving Rogue so much hate, just because it starts off with a ship, or that you turn to a freelancer assassin, and then to an official templar. I start to love Rogue, because I thought it have a decent story and decent characters, AND ofcourse, to play as a templar.
I mean, Assassin's Creed, are about, NOT just Assassin's. But Templars as well. So why wouldn't Ubisoft think it would be interesting to play as an assassin that turned templar?! I mean, if we're just going to play as an Assassin for the whole franchise, it wouldn't be Assassin's Creed much, would it? In Unity we start off as a templar for a few minutes. In Rogue, we start off as an Assassin, but then turns templar for the rest of the game.
Speaking of AC Unity, it's been rushed by leaving MASSIVE game bugs and glitches in the game. Wich, of course, made Arno look like an faceless monkey. And my sister's been doing research on Unity, and it's pretty short when it comes to story and history wise. It lacks so much of it, but that's because it's Ubisofts first next-gen game of the AC franchise. So, of course, it would be lots of problems with it. While Rogue is not rushed, in history, gameplay and story wise But, i would imagine they fixed Unity's problems.. though, i'm not getting my hopes up.
Now that's out of the way. I, honestly, think Rogue is absoulutely BEAUTIFUL. It's got a fine story, decent characters and good character development, and great gameplay experience for a ps3 game. I will rate AC Rogue 8.7/10. Good job Ubisoft. And please, don't rush AC Victory.
Rogue really needed to be longer. Assassin's Creed III and Black Flag were the first games to show me that the Templars aren't actually all that evil. Sure some Templars abuse their power, but some of them are actually trying to do good. For example Benjamin Hornigold in Black Flag, pirate turned Templar. He changed sides because he saw that the life of a pirate was going nowhere and Nassau was doomed, but as a Templar with plenty of resources he could make the region safe from people like Charles Vane and Jack Rackham, the pirates that just wanted to plunder and kill. I adore Hornigold's character arc, I just wish we saw more. Woodes Rogers and the governor are also interesting.
Most Templars are not evil (it seems most people that play these games see the world in black and white, good and evil, no ambiguity) but actually trying to improve things. Everyone who is evil is a Templar, but not all Templars are evil. The Borgia family from AC II Brotherhood were evil people wanting control, that is true. Haytham Kenway is not the most likeable person either, but he's seen the Assassin side of things and chose otherwise. The Assassins in Rogue seem to be just as colorblind as many players. Put the title "Templar" on someone and they are instantly evil. Shay Cormac gets a chance to see the other side and joins them. Achilles and the Assassins were meddling with technology they did not understand and killed thousands of people in the process. But the Templars are also just as reckless in some cases! Both sides are capable of good and evil. Assassin's Creed should have more of that.
Rogue should have been longer and more fleshed out, because the characters as they are might be interesting, but very rushed. There could have been plenty of moments where the two sides battle through their beliefs, and Shay has a few moments where he wonders if he is doing the right thing. But nothing really comes from that. I want the Assassin's Creed series to take a few more risks with its characters, change it up like Black Flag did. Edward Kenway's character arc was one of the best I have ever seen to this day. He started with certain ideals, his beliefs were put to the test, and his opinions changed and his worldview would never be the same. He lost his closest friends and learned about himself and the consequences of his actions like no other character. Damn fantastic character and a very fun game. I think Shay Cormac could have been the same if the game was longer, with his evolution fleshed out.
Unity seems to just go back to the norm, back to the Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed II days. Back to what is familiar, but rushed to impress people with next gen graphics and whatnot.
For me Black Flag was a 9/10 because of characters and the amount of fun I had. Rogue is a 7/10 only because of how short it is. It would be an 8 to 9 if it was longer and more fleshed out. Unity is about 7/10 as well.

As a long time fan of the series I have to say Rogue is stronger than it may look when it comes to the story. I usually don't pick at reviews, it's all opinions afterall, but I think it should be noted that this games target audience is the loyal fan base. There's no introduction that summarizes the previous games and they expect you to be a bit invested in AC lore, to understand the significance of certain events. It's a breath of fresh air built on the well received platform that is Black Flag. Totally worth $60 in my eyes and a good farewell to Assassins Creed on my trusty old PS3.
And they say nintendo milks the shit out of mario. I like to see ubsoft excuse as to why this game didn't come to the wii u. Their excuse with unity is just pathetic, and this is coming from someone who doesnt even own or is not planing on owning a wiiu. What can I say, I dislike bullshit, coughcalldutycough.

Just completed this game a few minutes ago. Been putting it off because I heard bad reviews about it. In my honest opinion, those reviews are a load of shite. I enjoyed this game more than I enjoyed black flag, and I think it was on par with freedom cry. The characters were actually properly developed.
Ubisoft not just milked the cow but kicked the bucket. Truly a shitty year for AC fans.

To be honest I think Unity and Rogue are both good games. But I had more fun with Rogue because its open world sailing just like AC4.
I just want Ubisoft to upgrade the old-gen assassins's creed engine to contain the new-gen navigation system. This just makes the AC games better because they are only gonna change the parkour and not the graphics so the old-gen systems should probably be able to handle them.
A 6? I had more fun watching a rouge walk through on TH-cam than I had playing unity.

i have this on x360 and unity on ps4...i'm enjoying much more rogue than unity. Waiting for the fix on unity...this rogue is really good.
Black Flag is the most overrated game in years. I hate that shit. The only thing I liked about it was that it had sea hunting missions. Rogue surpasses Black Flag in almost every way. Hell, even the scenery was better looking in Rogue.

I'm looking forward to this game. I loved AC4 and the sailing, songs, and combat. I really wish they would make a pure pirate game separate from the AC world with all the naval combat and a good story.

I know its an old review. But damn are you wrong. The story is amazing. Absolutely loved the fact we could finally see the everlasting fight through the eyes of a Templar. Shay is IMO the best AC character next to Ezio.
also I can't be the only one that after playing this game (half way in ATM), that I feel like the Templars are going about things the right way and I feel like I wanna side with them now over the assassins
It seems when they aren't milking old engines relentlessly they are proving they don't know how to program with new ones.

For me the story is something new and exciting because you see yourself as the enemy and returning characters like Adewale,Haytham and Younger Achiles are a nice experience.The Naval combat is really fun for me. It is also intense to see random assassins pop out of nowhere and try to kill you. I really like rogue :D.

This score is way too low. Rogue destroys Unity, but it's not quite on par with Black Flag. I would put it on the same level as AC3, maybe not quite as good. But overall it's great. Big world, lots to go, awesome setting and unique take on an AC story. I'll be trying to get the Platinum for it in January 2017.
Assassin's creed is dying..
All the AC games are mechanically the same mostly since the very first game (maybe Unity not quite as much i dunno never played it) and Gamespot gave Black Flag a 9/10. I would agree that the game is a 6 or 6.5/10 far as bang for the buck is concerned that is for sure. If your a AC fan and have nothing else your playing or buying soon id be worth the purchase in my opinion. Otherwise wait for the game to go on sale cheap, I mean if you liked Black Flag their is enough new about Rogue that you will want to play it.
I did not like this review. Not because it had a go on a good game that should have had a higher score but the way the review was conducted from ones biased opinion. It was, dare I say unprofessional and rather of the point, whereas the game improves on Black Flag in many areas and where it also has what many would call a better story, which I also think it is in my opinion as a gamer. Yes, this game has the same mechanics practically, and the HUD looks very much the same, and those are the down sides of the game for some fans but they are not downsides that will have damaged your positive point on the cast, story and setting. Lets talk about the fact that Rogue improves on naval combat, admittedly it improves on a lot of things from AC 4 Black Flag and AC 3, but no, instead will focus on one's prospective on the game and share our biased opinions for GameStop's sake and let it be like this.

B: I hope you have improved your ability to perform voiceovers off a script in the past 7.5 years, because this performance has a massive case of TH-cam Scriptreading Voice. Lowering the tone of voice at the end of every single sentence is not pleasant to hear.

It doesn't matter..game reviewers especially Ign and Gamespot gonna always have somebody that gonna talk great about a game or bash a game. Ign is still giving Madden top scores when it's the same fucking game every fucking year. It seriously doesn't make sense that Black Flag with its naval combat got a huge score and another game that follows it progress but instead we arent an assassin. We're actually a Templar during that same time would get a low score. It's all his opinion and it's a easy way to get views comments and people like me scratching my head. Just go out buy the game and you be the judge. I sure will!! I love the fact that your playing as a Templar.

Reviewers like this will complain about Assassin's Creed's lack of innovation, but will give the new Call Of Duty, FIFA, Madden, Battlefield etc games a 9/10 every year, I'm calling bullshit, nothing wrong with those games I actually love all of them, but my point is game's don't have to amazingly innovative or cutting edge to be great games, they just have to play well, be fun and be engaging.
I don't know what to decide upon.. An AC game that's rich in gameplay and story but runs like absolute garbage, or an AC game that has a boring story and uninspired gameplay but runs well. Oh! I know! HOW ABOUT *NEITHER!*
I hate shay cormack. I’ve said it a dozen times playing this game. From the simple inability to do parkour sometimes to my least favorite character, this game is awful. It made me uncomfortable to play as the villain. 1/10 just for the ability to pet the dogs.
