Barret-Roddenberry was also the official voice of the Southern Pacific and later the Union Pacific Railroads, as Southern Pacific hired her to do the recordings used on their defect detectors. After Union Pacific bought out the Southern Pacific in 1996, they continued to use her voice on most of their defect detector equipment, which is still used to this day.
That's awesome! In the UK we have Julie Berry - her voice is heard on almost all of our train services, at least in the south east of England. You could say she is the Majel Barrett of English railways! :)
Apple are just interested in making money. They couldn't make 100% profit using her voice so they made their own. It's a shame because the son of Mrs Roddenberry offered them to use all the audio for free. My only hope is that someone comes up with an idea of making an Echo device with her voice. I would buy one.
I remember it made me laugh so much when the computer went "Warning, last chance to be a hero Doctor," in Voyager! It was wonderful that Majel was a part of Star Trek for so long, and fantastic she is in the new film. May she rest in peace, a wonderful lady.
It is funny how actors and actresses become part of our collective history. She will be missed, but her voice will live on. Before she died she recorded a phonetic voice print of all the English sounds. She will live on in our memories and our devices.
Other TH-cam videos claim the the Enterprise was the most recurring star but it was clearly Majel. She played 3 different characters in 2 different series and the voice of all the computers. Pure talent!
I was very fortunate to meet Majel at the Detroit Comic Con some years ago, she autographed two of her photos for me. A very beautiful and gracious lady and we talked for a few moments about her work on the programs and movies. She'll be sadly missed, Rest In Peace, Majel...
this always got me, as the NCC-1701 had at least 3 different bridges. One form pilot ep. one from rest of tos, then movie one I think had 2 bridges before ship was destroyed
Ooooh, this is awesome. She's so integral to the whole Star Trek feel, such a constant. Gonna be hard without her :( I do like that the computer got rather a bunch of jokes, over the years :D
Mrs. Roddenberry was the best woman to play the X.O in "The Cage" then the Enterprise Infirmary Head Nurse (later Medical Officer in films 1 & 4) Christine Chapel in the Original Series as well as Lwaxana Troi in Next Gen and DS9 as well as the central computer systems in all Trek series, even films 7 thru 10 (plus the Abrams reboot she did the computer one last time). I didn't realize that she voiced the computer in the Original Series. I grew up listening to her voice. She will be missed.
@PhiloYT1 If I remember right, her voice was used for the computer of the Enterprise in the new "Star Trek" movie and that was actually her last "Star Trek"-related role before her passing. What they might do is use the actress who voiced the DS9 computer (Judi Durand) with some sort of explanation which would tell us why they changed ther voice of the computer.
She will be missed. STAR TREK will never be the same again. I am glad to hear she was able to do the voice of the computer for the new Star Trek move that is coming out in May 09. before she passed away. I've seen clips of the new movie and I'm not sure about it.. but will give it a chance.
Warning: Last chance to be a hero, Doctor. Get going! Majel must have had fun with those two lines. The latter sounded like she was channeling Lwaxana Troi.
The Voyager computer was definitely the most hilarious. "Warp core breach a lot sooner than you think." XDD However, my favorite moments of Majel were her appearances as Lwaxana Troi on DS9. I didn't even realize she had died. Too bad, she's a legendary actor.
The character at 4:00 was in the TNG episode 'The First Duty', season 5, episode 19. He was at the academy with Wesley Crusher and was expelled for doing the kolvord starburst where one cadet was killed. How the hell did he get back into starfleet?
She was fantastic, simply stunning. Her voice will be remembered forever. Of all the chars of Star Trek, while there have been many fabulous ones, my favorites are Lwaxana and Barkley. Very few are those talents that can span so many Treks so gracefully.
Spock: *shoots Nurse Chapel a dirty look mentally saying don't get any ideas* Chapel: *shoots a look at Spock back, mentally saying it's too late for that.*
They should really compile Majel's voice recordings from over the years and use the clips to generate a voice of the Starfleet computer, now and forever.
The tech's here now, but I can't find any proof that someone compiled it into any of the AI voice programs available now, nor any videos that use the voice. Disappointing, that those techbros prefer to use them to steal the voices of living, working people instead of giving new life to those whose voices are no longer with us.
She was still the computer voice on the episodes that took place aboard Federation ships (such as the beginning of the first episode, which was in the video) But yes, the station DS9's computer was voiced by Judi Durand.
Great tribute! I'd have only one request that you'd add the TNG espisode that has Alexander where Lwaxana is talking to the computer when setting up a Holodeck program.
She did voice the computer in the animated series but not in the clip you showed. The voice was from a large non-sentient gaseous organism floating through space and devouring planets. Spock achieved a meld and convinced it not to eat a Federation colnized planet. I think I'm going to go watch it now. :-)
with even my personal experience with comparing voices i never knew she was the federation computer. Lwaxana Troi yes but her a computers voice? that would be almost unthinkable.
In the animated series, the computer was just acting as the voice for the giant entity cloud alien thing they were inside, the computer itself wasnt confused
You know... I wonder if the producers kept the original, unedited sound/wav/aif recordings of Mrs. Rodenberry portraying the computer's voice from when they were still making the show(s)...
@NoInfringementIntent This is true. You can hear Majel best in the scene where Chekov is failing to pronounce the letter "v". It was so natural to hear her voice that I didn't even notice until my second viewing. I would like to hear Ms. Durand. She was a good computer, and a familiar one.
Majel's voice for STNG was simply perfect ..
I wanna have conversations with that computer
Barret-Roddenberry was also the official voice of the Southern Pacific and later the Union Pacific Railroads, as Southern Pacific hired her to do the recordings used on their defect detectors. After Union Pacific bought out the Southern Pacific in 1996, they continued to use her voice on most of their defect detector equipment, which is still used to this day.
That's awesome! In the UK we have Julie Berry - her voice is heard on almost all of our train services, at least in the south east of England. You could say she is the Majel Barrett of English railways! :)
I loved her voice I only wished Apple could have used her voice for Siri
Apple are just interested in making money. They couldn't make 100% profit using her voice so they made their own. It's a shame because the son of Mrs Roddenberry offered them to use all the audio for free.
My only hope is that someone comes up with an idea of making an Echo device with her voice. I would buy one.
Now that wudda been awesome
Ravedaze any voice would be better then Siri’s
Ditto!
It got on my damn nerves. But it's an old show so I didn't really mind.
I remember it made me laugh so much when the computer went "Warning, last chance to be a hero Doctor," in Voyager!
It was wonderful that Majel was a part of Star Trek for so long, and fantastic she is in the new film. May she rest in peace, a wonderful lady.
Are you still alive after 12 years?
Captain Janeway: coffee, black.
Computer: make it yourself.
LOL at Data's face when computer says "Thank you, sir. I comprehend." Even the computer thinks Data talks too much! HAHA!
"warning, warp core breech, alot sooner than you think." ..a little comedy in there doesn't go unnoticed...
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Majel Barrett-Roddenberry was one amazing woman Star Trek would not have been the same without her RIP Majel
I can't believe I never realized that was her voice!
I read Shatner's book; "Star Trek Memories." Back in the nineties. That's when I knew she was the voice of the computer.
You aren't alone a lot of folks didn't know .
A little late, but thank me later : th-cam.com/video/DmHZ6dR4HhA/w-d-xo.html
" Warning: Warp Core breach, a lot sooner thank you'd think. "
" Warning: Last chance to be a hero, doctor! Get going! "
Which episode is that from?
@@CLC-1000 Voyager episode tinker tenor doctor spy i think
I prefer 2:20 where the computer sasses data
Who’s here after hearing majel computer voice again in star trek picard season 3 episode 9.
Lwaxana Troi! I'll never get your voice out of my head now.
It is funny how actors and actresses become part of our collective history. She will be missed, but her voice will live on. Before she died she recorded a phonetic voice print of all the English sounds. She will live on in our memories and our devices.
It never occurred to me the computer and Lwaxana Troi were the same person.
same
That's amazing.
Me either.
How?
OhManTFE
5:51 Snap!
Rest in peace, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.
Good old Majel Barrett with Star Trek the longest of any of them. Loved her portrayal of Lawxana Troi too!
"Thank you sir...I comprehend" xD
Even the computer tries to shut up Data...
Though I would love to hear it say "Shut up Wesley".
Her voice is perfect for this, I always loved it, she did a great job on it!
Loved it when the computer told janeway to make it yourself.
A joke from Q's son.
cell phones should say the same thing, people have become loose
"Coffee"
"Make if yourself!"
Hilarious delivery!
5:01 is the best of all....."make it yourself...!"
Who knew technology could be a dick...
Which episode was it in?
I love the Scene on the Holodeck with Scotty :D
Just heard about her. It's a great loss to the fandom. RIP, Majel.
You really honored her with this post. I enjoyed it .Thanks from a fan.
"six series" ITS SEVEN NOW
NCC - 1701; no bloody A, B, C, or D.
want a t-shirt with this on it.
certainly not a red shirt
This always brings a tear to my eye. RIP Scotty.
this always got me, as the NCC-1701 had at least 3 different bridges. One form pilot ep. one from rest of tos, then movie one I think had 2 bridges before ship was destroyed
Even though the A was his ship also lol
Majel is the ture voice of the Enterprise from the original to the Enterprise D, Voyager and Enterprise E. And other Starfleet ships.
Ooooh, this is awesome. She's so integral to the whole Star Trek feel, such a constant. Gonna be hard without her :(
I do like that the computer got rather a bunch of jokes, over the years :D
Mrs. Roddenberry was the best woman to play the X.O in "The Cage" then the Enterprise Infirmary Head Nurse (later Medical Officer in films 1 & 4) Christine Chapel in the Original Series as well as Lwaxana Troi in Next Gen and DS9 as well as the central computer systems in all Trek series, even films 7 thru 10 (plus the Abrams reboot she did the computer one last time). i love how the computer could tell data to shut up
Awesome.
Thanks for sharing, kids loved it too. 👌🏻
Janeway: "Coffee. Black."
Replicator Computer: "Make it yourself."
Priceless. RIP Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.
Captain Janeway's face PRICELESS.
Excellent video! Made me smile seeing all those clips and hearing Majel as the computer.
RIP Majel.
I didnt even realise how much of an icon she was for star trek until she died. She will be missed.
She will be missed. STAR TREK will never be the same again. I am glad to hear she was able to do the voice of the computer for the new Star Trek move that is coming out in May 09. before she passed away.
I've seen clips of the new movie and I'm not sure about it.. but will give it a chance.
Awesome! Thanks for making this video!
Thank you Majel, for all that you did for us. You will be greatly missed. You were a wonderful and beautiful person. It was an honor to meet you.
Nice cuts, friend. Worthy tribute to an integral character/ perfect actress.
Gene Roddenberry may have forged this world of Star Trek, but Majel caressed its words for all time.
Thank you
That was my thought exactly when I first saw the episode
Warning Warp core breach a lot sooner then you think. hahahaha
Warning: Last chance to be a hero, Doctor. Get going!
Majel must have had fun with those two lines. The latter sounded like she was channeling Lwaxana Troi.
EHH246 Yep, that's my favourite.
What episode is that fron?
r.i.p majel. you will be grately missed.
you are apart of star trek as much as the enterprise herself.
I felt so sorry for Scotty in TNG. Poor guy...
HA!, I completely forgot that the computer had a "Thank you, Mr. Data" moment 😃
Very nice homage to the Star Trek computer's voice! Thanks!
Thank you. Just for Number One, alone.!!
We keep losing the Great ones. God grant them peace and reunit them with those who love them. Star Trek is as old as I am and still part of my life
Thanks again. I needed to know.
The Voyager computer was definitely the most hilarious. "Warp core breach a lot sooner than you think." XDD However, my favorite moments of Majel were her appearances as Lwaxana Troi on DS9.
I didn't even realize she had died. Too bad, she's a legendary actor.
The computer is offline now but the backup files will remind us of the angelic voice that will forever be Star Trek
I loved Majel's mother-daughter chemistry with Marina Sirtis. Those two were great together.
The character at 4:00 was in the TNG episode 'The First Duty', season 5, episode 19. He was at the academy with Wesley Crusher and was expelled for doing the kolvord starburst where one cadet was killed. How the hell did he get back into starfleet?

Of all the chars of Star Trek, while there have been many fabulous ones, my favorites are Lwaxana and Barkley. Very few are those talents that can span so many Treks so gracefully.
Spock: "I'm inside you..."
Star Trek XXX :P
What a way to kill the mood.
groov dafied something a certain nurse/doctor we all know played by Mrs. Roddenberry aspired to for years.
Dirty little (quite literary) Spock.
Spock: *shoots Nurse Chapel a dirty look mentally saying don't get any ideas*
Chapel: *shoots a look at Spock back, mentally saying it's too late for that.*
Oh that's cool, great tribute.
They brought her voice back❤!!!
4:30..."Warp core breach a lot sooner than you think" precision timing unavailable...Majel was the best.
I love Majel soooo much... I wish I had the opportunity to see her before she died.
I am just now learning of Ms. Roddenberry's passing. May she goes where others have gone before.
We're there now with chatGPT, crazy times ahead
Cool video...!
Majel has done a lot for the Trek series...!
R.I.P. sweetheart...we're gonna miss you
Bloody hell I never knew she was the voice of that computer in TOS!! You learn something new every day!
They should really compile Majel's voice recordings from over the years and use the clips to generate a voice of the Starfleet computer, now and forever.
guess what
The tech's here now, but I can't find any proof that someone compiled it into any of the AI voice programs available now, nor any videos that use the voice. Disappointing, that those techbros prefer to use them to steal the voices of living, working people instead of giving new life to those whose voices are no longer with us.
That episode was set after 'Relics,', so perhaps since then there was an NX-01 program installed.
She was still the computer voice on the episodes that took place aboard Federation ships (such as the beginning of the first episode, which was in the video)
But yes, the station DS9's computer was voiced by Judi Durand.
Great tribute! I'd have only one request that you'd add the TNG espisode that has Alexander where Lwaxana is talking to the computer when setting up a Holodeck program.
omg! i had no idea she passed till i saw this, wow! im so shocked! i will miss her voice and her presence as Lwoxana Troi!
bless her
TOS sounded old fashioned with the "Duotronic" computers sound effects :)
I wonder if they have got enough recordings to keep having her voice as the computer.
jim doohan, de forest, the lady who was the navigator in star trek the movie, and now majel. rest in peace.
"i am inside you......"
"inside.. me...... ?"
Majel is also the voice on real-life talking defect detectors on the railroad.
The clip from "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy" is my favorite in this montage, but the whole video overall was awesome.
Your voice will always be remembered.
I love that even the computer got annoyed with Data rambling.
Part of the reason why Star Trek was never the same again. F
Rest in peacd Majel. You are greatly misssd.
I KNEW THAT WAS HER VOICE!!!
She was also Mrs. Rutherford on Leave it to Beaver.
I never knew this! That the voice computer was also a character in the series
Rest in Peace, Majel.
@SuperTrekNerd actually the Federation programed the computers to not think that Enterpise happened
WOW very cool!!!
Majel Barrett-Roddenberry :February 23, 1932 - December 18, 2008
She also did the computer voice as a cameo in Family Guy "Emission Impossible" - it was a great surprise when watching
Majel, you will be missed....
it did, Riker had an Enterprise program as was revealed in the last Enterprise episode.
Nice video
In the animated series that you cited, that is not the computer that Majel Barrett's voice was used for. She was playing an alien being.
Nurse Chapel!!!!!!!
It could also be that the computer files did not have a NX-01 program, so it refers to only the 5 ships including the D.
