I worked in the West Wing of the Capitol as a secretary in the 1970s. Beautiful place to work. I loved the cafeteria in the basement and the beautiful chandelier. The museum used to be in the basement before they built the Cultural Center. Our office put out the bid for leafing the gold dome in the 70s, and then when the new administration came in, they canceled the contract and had them paint it. Thankfully, they later put the gold leaf on it. It is so pretty.

I asked Melody last week -- Where is our #1 fan? I'm glad you were on vacation. The Outer Banks are wonderful (and dog friendly). So happy to see you back. Lou

Very expansive museum and grounds. I imagine I could spend hours in the museum. Not being from West Virginia, what's the story behind the Capital moving back & forth between Wheeling & Charleston?

At the time Wheeling was heavily Republican and a crossroads for commerce with the Ohio River, National Road, and later rail roads intersecting Wheeling. Charleston was heavily Democrat and more centrally located within West Virginia. I imagine politics played a lead role in the several moves back and forth between Wheeling and Charleston.
