Well done on the scoop with the V2! A minor upgrade but some nice touches - I particularly like the bolts instead of screws ... a major plus if you regularly switch between wheels & floats. The big question though is whether those vortex generators help tame the V1's rather abrupt wing drop when flying without flaps? Also ... does the new battery plate let you put the pack far enough back? The V1 Colour Edition is nose heavy (due to the 'soft' wheels) and actually balances about right without a pack on board! It's a shame they've stuck with that noisy & inefficient carbon prop, but swapping to an APC is no big deal :-)
i 3d and hover my stock tundra .the tundra likes rudder in turns and stol and high alpha im sure the little addon will make it stable but a Apc is a must
Just received the v2 today, wheels aren't EPP, but what feels like very soft PVC coated sponge - unlike the hard originals (not unlike the beautiful Trexlers if you're old enough to remember them :-) . Comes with a pair of carbon horizontal stab struts and affixed clear polycarbonate sheet mounts - no info in manual as to _exactly_ how or where they should be fitted - left to the student to decide obviously :-). Doesn't come with candy dropper nor skis. Mentions the use of 'bolts' now instead of 'screws' - what they mean is M3 screws into brass inserts instead of skanky self-tappers into bare plastic :-) Battery strap is in a stupid and awkward position at the back - rip out the 2mm ply board and remount it nearer the front - or jiggle the strap around 'somehow'. Glue your tyres on to their hubs BTW - UHU Por is fine. The plastic 'screw caps' holding the wheels on aren't a wonderful idea - you're not going to take them off again (you need to remove the whole U/C assy to fix the floats/schwimmer anyway), so solder a neat washer on instead :-) Looks like a nice practical 'hack' model for chucking in the back of the car for some 'guerilla' flying !
Yikes! This one is £50 more than I paid for mine 3 or 4 years ago when they first added the reversing ESC. Not sure the improvements justify that much of a price hike, but the Tundra is a great first or second plane, and is aerobatic enough to keep anyone happy.
Yup, saves times, less chance of breaking fragile connections and zero chance of connecting things incorrectly. Good enhancement that one. Cheers - Dom (Essential RC)
Please no. If you can get CG with 3S2200, don't go adding way heavier packs. It just wont fly that well. Smooth? I dont like flying in straight lines much but if that's your gig...it'll fly smooth.
When I see someone fly like that , Well your going to feel sick if you can't get it! My Gosh I feel sick as a Dog ,that big massive model doing all of that! Amazing Flying Mr. Dom
Its nice to see HK revamp this awesome model but a few better mods to truly call it a V2 would have been nice. Plus there is not a lot of spare parts available for at at the moment which (to me) is always worrying... as my style of flying (or lack there of) requires more spares than batteries..... loving the purple and orange colors.. great review BTW.
Did the vortex generators help with tip stall? If they could get it to just drop square without dropping a tip or aileron reversal it would be perfect.
Essential RC I have the upgraded V1 in grey/orange and with a good flap/elevator mix it pretty much stops. Only big complaint with V1 is not enough washout so it tip stalls which makes STOL tricky.
It was windy so didnt need flaps and I didnt want to do anything excessively risky like a on verge of stall landing on the maiden. Next time out...yes!
I am building a Tundra V2 wanting it to be fairly long flights for shooting Video. I have yet to put the vortex generators on it. Do you think they would slow down the plane and make for shorter distances?
Hi there.. how would this compare to the Carbon Cub s2. I just sold my s2 after 3 flights as I thought it was a bit docile for my progression. Similar battery it seems, 3s. But this will take 4s also I believe. Design looks a little better, flaps built in, better landing gear, prop looks better also - s2 is quite flimsy. Any thoughts ? Thanks :)
I generally don't fly Horizon Hobbies or E-Flite RC aircraft as they are generally overpriced compared to the equivalent HobbyKing models. For that reason I can't make a comparison. I'm all about showing best bang for you buck...and sorry to say Horizon are a big miss when it comes to price. They do have models I'm interested in, like the new EDF Viper Jet. Might get one of those but got many other projects to finish first. Cheers - Dom (Essential RC)
@@EssentialRC no worries. I think I can see this one is a lot better. Prop was garbage on the s2. Trying to find the weight vs the tundra to see if that might have an impact on power. This one seems to climb much better.

@@EssentialRC Just yesterday I received my Orange 10 transmitter and if I'm not mistaking that's what you have in this video. I'm excited to get a chance to use it.
Eh, because that's the recommendation and because you achieve the required CG by doing it!? Put in a heavier pack if you want. You'll get longer flying time but more weight means more stress on the landing gear and it just won't be as agile in the air.
This is probably a good plane and the improvements look great. However, these HK guys burned me on the Grand Tundra. Seems to be that thing is discontinued and no more wing struts or 6s propr available for example. They're not even able to provide an ETA on when those things would be coming into stock. I'm sticking with the tried and true brands going forward.
We all have different flying styles buddy. I tend to use rudder when I need it...4 point roll, knife edge, and in tighter turns coordinated with aileron.
@@EssentialRC Agreed......we do all have different styles. I'm not disputing your ability to fly at all, you are obviously very proficient, it's just at the very beginning of the video your first turns were a bit untidy........just sayin'
Maiden flight...literally very first flight...nothing goes perfect on a first flight. Every model flies different and takes me 3-4 flights at least to get the best out of it.
Essential Review?! What’s the flight time? How did the flaps work? How about the floats? I would call this a very basic review that’s missing most of the relaxant information imho.
Had loads of fun with the first version, still fly's but had to endure some abuse... 😂. Might buy this version too.
Now that is a performance Bush Plane! Love the Aerobatics, the Power, and of course the Big Tires ;-) Awesome! See you in the Air!
I love this video. I am glad I baught mine

DeadlyDiddly it’s mainly the £ falling against the $ over the past 3 to 4 yrs .
Wait a minute. What are the difference between bolts and screws
Very nice RC Flight!

A bigger (heavier) battery, and a healthy bit of exponential to smooth it out a bit?

Maybe upgrade the 'friend' to v2 first :-))

Love your videos m8 keep safe
FPV is possible, but you have to stick the FC back in there. You need small fingers and hands, and a set of long tweezers to stick in the duponts.
Can you recommend a stabilizer for this plane as I would like to purchase one but I am unsure of which stabilizer to buy. Thanks

Floats included in the box ?
Cheers !
I dont think so
How long are spares going to be available for ? They can’t support the current Trojan they’re selling
Did the vortex generators help with tip stall? If they could get it to just drop square without dropping a tip or aileron reversal it would be perfect.
I didn't stall it so can't say. You'll see that I use full flap a couple of times and it almost flies backwards. Fun flying it in a stiff wind.
Essential RC I have the upgraded V1 in grey/orange and with a good flap/elevator mix it pretty much stops. Only big complaint with V1 is not enough washout so it tip stalls which makes STOL tricky.
Looks like tail heavy at the beggining...and nice bumpy landing too LOL :-))))
Looked a little windy plane was being bounced around alot.
Was a little gusty...but hey if you live in Europe we rarely get a perfect calm day.
Nice video
How you did to adjust the prop nut correctly with the carbon prop?
Mine is so slippery that I can't get it tight.
Maybe use the washer to cut a sandpaper washer to go ontop
Would like to have seen you use the flaps for low speed landings.
It was windy so didnt need flaps and I didnt want to do anything excessively risky like a on verge of stall landing on the maiden. Next time out...yes!
Is the wing actually meant to be taken off each time or just during initial assembly? how well made is the wing take apart function?
Just 2 screws on each side to remove the wings. Takes a couple of minutes to do it if you need to.
nice machine 👍

If you want to minimize drag then maybe best leave them off.
This seems as powerful as the older tundra on a 60c batt..
Did you fly on 30c here and stock motor ?
Still awaiting delivery. Looks awesome !
Def would have used 30c packs or above. It's a great RC, only beaten by the larger Grand Tundra but that needs 6S5000 packs.
@@EssentialRC thanks :)
landing gear still bend outwards after a few hard or even not so hard landings?
Not at all and stronger with the new metal component holding the cross brace to the landing gear struts at each wheel.
Super like 😀👍
It looks like it handles far to lite, for my liking.
the wind was kicking it around a lot at first, and it looked wobbly and a tad tail-heavy maybe?

Works for me. Simple to use.
Looks a bit tail heavy to me. Look at a 2800 - 3200 lipo. Would make it a bit more stable for beginners or glider tow.

Yes

@@EssentialRC WOW ok, I'll keep my fingers crossed then. Thanks for the info!
What’s the flight time on this plane?
On a 3S2500 pack a good 6-8 minutes if you're cruising around but really depends how much throttle you use.
Essential RC and would there be any way you could get around 15 min?
Essential RC and is it hard to fly if I have only ever flown a small glider?
With a larger battery maybe. 3S3500 but no larger.
If you can fly a glider competently you should be fine with this.
