The first few seconds on "The Wasteland" (11:17) took my mind straight back to the first few seconds of the "Frances the Mute" b-side track on the Widow single by The Mars Volta. That track creeped me out, too. I always think of one of those small Japanese ichimatsu dolls hiding in the dark and clanging a bell. I know that's probably just me, but it's still creepy and I love it.
