I've been listening to Aesop since 2001.He is one of the greatest writers in the history of human pen dancing. The way he makes complex narratives suit perfectly to the drum and bass of the beat forms a beautiful paradox.Lovely disorder.
He is a Hallmark card for schadenfreude, a Egyptian bowing to the Ptolemaic pharaoh, an inescapable smegma smell after a saturday night drinking turpentine and Jagermeister. Paradox though? Au contraire my uneducated friend, there is no dichotomy in perfection weaved. No opposition in war and peace. I see you are at the start of your journey, so I will not berate you. Please read more Brothers Grimm if you are confused.
I remember it was a suffering hot summer, and I'm a winter person. The "good" time of year rolled around for me again, and it was that year's first snow, on a mellow hour of the evening, nonetheless. I had achieved my wheels back after not being able to afford a car for four years. Then I broke the ungodly 9 month long sober barrier. I took a nice cold cruise and rolled myself a giant. Then this "Fryerstarter" song broke into the speakers and I reflected about how I had just landed a secure job, had friends on my side, and how grateful I was about my new partner. I was instantly a child again and I felt as if everything bad in my life never happened. It was heaven on earth. Just me, the snow, the secluded shores of MD, and my victory.
Check my mixtape bruh Honestly, I don't even know what that means. Should I have said something like "dis shyt reel as fuk" like you do on all those rap videos? Because I can try.
To me, Aes is doing what Roger Zelazny did for Science Fiction. The work is extremely advanced for the genre. Where they separated themselves from the pack is through the raw intelligence. I come back to their works, and always find something new. Aesop Rock is continuing to evolve Hip Hop into the literary lexicon.
skelethon, float, bazooka tooth, non shall pass, the impossible kid, every album is fucking amazing and will hit you hard with nostalgia upon returning to these albums a year later
Can’t quite believe this album will be 10 years old this July 😱 the summer this came out, my whole life changed and I can’t thank Aes enough for this record which continues to excite and inspire me still to this day.
My life changed when I first heard Aes too, I only wear booger green and brown to this day. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky a baggy gray skull cap to match the five straggly gray hair protruding from my curled mustache.
I know he's been making music for a LOOONG time, but I only first found out about and started listening to Aes in 2008 when someone at my high school passed away in a car accident. Following his death, I checked out his MySpace page (popular at the time) and he had Aesop's "None Shall Pass" as his profile song. Immediately fell in love with Aes then, but after the release of Skelethon I'm convinced he's the greatest rapper alive. Whether it's flow, lyrical content, or production, his all around style is fresh and vibrant. I've listened to this record so many times I've memorized nearly all of the lyrics to every song on this LP and I still come back for more. So, so, so good. I can't wait for his newest full album.
I am the only one who loves the drums on this album? From their dirty sound, to how complicated and multi-structured the percussions are? Of course, all those small beeping keyboards sometimes popping up are cool as hell. I love how flexible Aesop can be with his production.
AESOP ROCK MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE HEARD "LABOR DAYS" AND "FLOAT" BY SOME BEAUTIFUL ACCIDENT AT 16 TO STILL BE FOLLOWING THE JOURNEY OF THE HIS GROWTH AS AN ARTIST FOR 20 PLUS YEARS....THANK YOU SIR.
Aes is honestly the most solid rapper I can think of today. Constant quality content, not a song I don't like. The Impossible Kid is an absolute masterpiece already. I remember when this album came out I played it non-stop for a whole fortnight and still blast it often to this day.
Impossible kid, no regrets and none shall pass are amazing too though. The new spiritual guide one is great too, but not as great as skelethon + the first three mentioned
fuckyeahlions Man.. I heard that song in the background a few times, hearing parts of it, and always got an emotional 'tinge'.. One day I sat down, cranked the volume and read the lyrics to follow with the song.. and literally burst into tears afterwards, out of nowhere. The build...emotion.. and story are so powerful!
Absolutely. The first time i heard it, one thing stood out to me. The ambient noise builds slowly through the entire song, right up till the end where it all drops, and the first time i listened to it, i was so entranced i didn't even notice the increase in volume and chaos until it was gone in an instant, and it absolutely moved me to tearing up, a Fantastic effect.
The amazing thing about this album is that each song has a different tone/ meaning: Depressing, Funny, Introspection, Retrospective, Honesty, Apathy, Doubt, Guilt, Isolation, Exile, Nostalgia, Love, Compromise, Determination, Family, Understanding, Hate, and many more concepts and emotions. Aesop's realest album to this day. Great lyrics, great instrumentals. Great all around music. Truly a masterpiece... ♪♫♥
I think this song completely redefined what I am willing to call GREAT art anymore. Full roller-coaster ride from the opening tone swells... nostalgic familial comfort, to looming suspense, through sheer terror, to wet-eyed joyous relief at the words "good dog". Every time. It's like visual art for the ears. He took 2 minutes to do what Darren Aronofsky needed 90 minutes to build up to with "Pi" or "Requiem", but then landed it with a happy ending. Similarly (minus any happy ending), "Fumes" final line "no she didn't, yes she did" can hit me the same way sometimes.
Ruby 81, fits the beginning where the kid in the red 31 lol looked like an 81 to me. some of those racers looked pretty clean on that track. did aesop knock that kid back into the lead?
Aesop grows on you, the more you listen the more you will tune into his genius lyrics, though you'll probably only give him a chance for his incredible flow if you aren't a fan of decrypting music. After a while you start tuning into the connections and understanding the song bit by bit, line by line, untill you can begin to patch the lines together. At first it sounds completely random, but they are not random, i assure you. I'm a complex rapper as well and i can't get anywhere close to his vocabulary. Concerning written rap, no one can touch Aesop Rock lyrical and flow wise.
I love the way Rhymesayers is promoting this. I am 500% more likely to buy this album now that I've heard the whole thing in HD and they've made it easy for me to check out tour dates and the like. Music Promoters - THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT.

The Impossible Kid is such a fantastic album. So much so, that I completely forgot how wonderful this album is, regardless of how much time I spent with it in the past. For pure lyrics, I would have to say I much prefer this album over Impossible Kid. However, Impossible Kid feels like a much more complete and focused album. I highly enjoy watching and hearing Aes develop as an artist!

I love how low budget all of Rhymesayers album streams are. Keeping things simple helps the listener focus on their deep lyrics. Keep up the great work guys!
Took a long time to get here, but I'm glad I did. Getting to the core meaning of Ace's songs is like getting through a dense tropical forest with a butter knife. That shits hard work. But when you do, on the other side is Shangri-La.
First time I encountered Aes, I didn't like hip-hop. I related it to "artists" like lil wayne or gucci mane. I thought hip-hop was some overly corrupt branch of the music industry, much like alt rock or pop, where "artists" didn't write their own music or lyrics. Aesop, the first time I listened to him, was very jarring. So much so that I didn't like it. (labor days). Then I checked out The impossible kid and I fucking loved it. I listened to that album exclusively for over a month. Day in, day out. Then I started listening to his earlier work like none shall pass and labor days, I still found it a bit jarring, but I kept on listening to it, cause I knew the dude had fucking talent. I guess this sort of music is like jazz, where as you really need to understand the art before you can appreciate it, let alone love it. Aes' music introduced me to a whole new spectrum of music, and I'll forever appreciate him for that. Keep at it, Aes. You're kind of a hero of mine.
I've checked out a few of his song, thought I couldn't tell you which). I liked what I heard, but I keep coming back to Aes. I tend to do that when I find music I really like. I'll check MF Doom again though.
Putting a full album on the internet probably seems like a crazy idea to some record companies. It worked for Rhymesayers, because after listening to it twice, I will be getting this album tomorrow.
New to the land of Aesop and his school of ah-ha moments but I gotta say I'm not typically a fan of hip hop etc but this dude is laying down some serious stream of consciousness and maybe its just me but this guy's a prophet. I'm just thrilled to be inundated with his material and how it makes me think. Amazed, really.
Aesop Rock is truly a real hip hop artist. If you listen to his albums often, you will learn to love the differentiating and innovative instrumentals spread throughout his career, but thats just the first and easiest step.
That Guy which i don't mind, but when people claim they are the best and no one comes close, that's when i feel like the ego bubble needs to be popped and that they need to be critically reviewed.
I have listened to every song, since this album came out atleast four times a day, and I STILL haven't got tired of any of it. Aesop Rock, I effin' love you.
I can't express how grateful I am that Rhymesayers and Aesop decided to do this. I wasn't able to purchase it on the release date and Aesop is my favorite artist. Needless to say ill be picking this up when I cash my paycheck today. Thanks again.
Jeez favorite track? I can pick about 6 of them that tie for first place in my opinion. Props to Aes on the beats. Best production I've heard in awhile.
I Love Aes his music has so much meaning and almsot every song is an awesome or touching story. Also big props to Rhymesayers for having enough love for their fans to release the whole album into a hour long video.
he goes in on 1,000 oclock. "Today a thousand sea lions got up and left a pier They had successfully invaded and secured for 20 years Some said it was the food supply or shifting weather patterns Truthfully a whole community of scientists are baffled" I remember when that shit happened, people in SF thought the world was ending. lol
What each song is actually about for those who don't get what he's saying or are too lazy to do some research: 1.Leisureforce - Living the life as a recluse, pretty much staying at home all day with your cat taking a nap or playing videogames. 2.ZZZ Top - The life of 3 different teenagers growing through life and finding out what they like. The first kid writes Zoso in his desk, meaning he a fan of rock. The second kid writes Zulu, he's a fan of rap and the third one Zeros meaning he's a fan of punk rock. 3.Cycles to Gehenna - Gehenna is a place at Jerusalem where they dump trash, dead bodies and other nasty ass shit like that. It's also the place where Jesus described as the Lake of Fire when the Apocalypse happens and the Devil gets burned. The song itself it's about a dude riding a motorcycle too fast and crashing and dying, hence the "Gehenna" 4.Zero Dark Thirty - That one goddamn time in life where you grow up and realize your an adult and has to deal with shit by yourself. The song rapid-pace is to resemble how everything changes really fast. 5.Fryestarter - An allusion to the Christian heaven, but actually being about a donut shop at San Francisco, CA owned by Bob. When Aes moved from NY to CA, the shop was one of the most comfortable places for him to hang out cause it hit home and was really "New York-ish" 6.Ruby '81 - The story about a Beagle dog saving a kid from drowning back in July 4th, 1981 during a family pool party. 7/8.Crows 1 & 2 - Songs about graveyards, a physical to "re-encountering" with your dead friends in this dark place that gets haunted at night. 9.Racing Stripes - Aes gets philosophical about getting a bad haircut. 10.1,000 O'Clock - When you wake up one day and feel tired of the routine and says "Fuck this shit" and wanna do something different with your life after everything gets boring. 11.Homemade Mummy - After your cat/pet dies, this is the best guide for you to mummify it at home and use it as a Halloween feature at your house, yay! Yea.. that's it basically. And its also about following your heart, and not your brain. 12.Grace - A song about how much Aes fucking hated vegetables, (specially green beans) as a kid and never wanted to eat them. 13.Saturn Missiles - What goes on in the mind of a kid daily and what he/she listens to it everyday from their parents when they do shit they ain't allowed to, it narrates from the beginning until the end of the childhood, when the kid becomes interested in.. other things. Saturn could be a vagina/dick and the Missile the aim for it. 14.Tetra - This is Aes official shit-talking song. It's basically a braggadocious track about how dope he is at rapping and how other rappers can't fuck with him or his bars. He goes in, dayum. ON ANOTHER NOTE, the whole song is a double entendre, could also be viewed from a depressed sociopath teenager who just broke up with his girlfriend and it's ready to kill somebody or in the worst case, kill himself. 15.Gopher Guts - An introspecting song about Aes' relationship with other people, such as his family members. He thinks that just because you may have a blood bond with somebody, it doesn't mean you have an emotional one, hence the mention of his mom on the first verse. He also speaks on how sometimes in his life he was asshole for people who cared for him and just wanted to help him but he always seemed to push 'em away somehow. Hope that helps yo
+god mode You're half right about Cycles to Gehenna. He wrote the song for his friend that died in a motorcycle accident, not just some dude. Hence the line "when you can't take your dead friends names out your phone".
Well for Gopher Guts its a bit more in depth, the three snakes, frogs, etc throughout the song represent his brothers and him self (or all young people). The animals are disliked, disgusting creatures and are taken, told they are amazing then thrown into the real world without any real preparation for it. People only realize the flaw of this after its too late hence the "oh" after each chorus.
I've been listening to Ace since Float and for some reason I CANNOT spot listening to this album!! From the first to last track, this album is flawless. Every other album has maybe 2-3 tracks that just don't resonate with me. Not necessarily bad tracks, they just don't do anything special for me. Daylight is my second favorite and i can only think of 1 track that i typically don't listen to all the way through. Keep producing your own tracks Ace! I really think Rhymesayers is an awesome fit!
was just listening (for the third time, background music) and something caught my ear about Ruby '81. Backed it up, listened carefully... and got the biggest goosebumps from Aesop's presentation of that story! Re-God-damned-diculous talent.
No I have dug very very deep in the underground and have found some great artists on the way such as Atmosphere, Brother Ali, El-P, P.O.S., and many many more. But Aesop Rock is underrated dude. Lyrically who can top Aesop??
@@musaka2022 Can't help that the top rapper's are white dudes. Or maybe it's just that white folks are more relatable to other white folks. Are you a simple person? Either way: what kind of loser says "Caucasoid"?

Pretty cool of Rhymesayers to upload the whole album to give people a full preview instead of a ridiculous 30 second snippet from every song. Shit drives me insane.
the more hip hop you listen to the easier it is to understand aes' rhymes, if someone isnt use to a style like this they only glaze over what is being said
Yeah, when I started listening to Aes it was mainly the beats that grabbed me, the words were all flying by and I didn't really understand. It's great how the songs sink in over time and just keep getting better.
Patrick Brand uhhhh I grew up wit metal and can understand his verses he's metaphorical and makes known and vague vague references maybe it helps to have listened to hip hop earlier but meh not so much imo
I saw Aesop last night in Denver! The setlist started with Leisureforce, then a little 5 minute improv, Homemade Mummy, Crows 2, Smock, (Hail Mary Mallon) ZZZ Top, Grubsteak (Hail Mary), Rob Sonic did a new track called Thunderdome (I think, the album's not due out for a couple months), Fryerstarter, another new Rob Sonic track, Racing Stripes, DJ Big Wiz break, Meter Feeder, Cycles to Gehenna, Grace, Z.D.T, Gopher Guts, Big Bang, Night/Daylight. Thanx for the pic and Autograph Aes!
this song is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. i miss my childhood so much. i wish i can return to the days where i thought the world was perfect

Ronark if you Like the more abstract Side of hip hop you should check out mf doom the best Hip hop artist that ever lived in My opinion
I've checked out a few of his song, thought I couldn't tell you which).
I liked what I heard, but I keep coming back to Aes. I tend to do that when I find music I really like. I'll check MF Doom again though.
listen to madvillianary it is a classic
Hey peace Aesop, man it's Chuck D, yo man, keep doing what you're doing man, keep rhyming through those walls.
DOPENESS
I am honored to say i now own this amazing piece of art. Thankyou Aes, Thankyou RSE. You've made me a very happy man. Not for the first, or last time.
EL-P is in my top 3 rappers off all time and the only rapper who comes close to EL-P with deep lyrics and weird flow is aesop rock.
Putting a full album on the internet probably seems like a crazy idea to some record companies. It worked for Rhymesayers, because after listening to it twice, I will be getting this album tomorrow.
This is his best album in my opinion.
Even better than Labour Days.
Crazy this was ten years ago, still a daily play for me
Right?
Good lookin' out!
Happy 40th to Aesop Rock !
So much dopeness in 5 til 1, Aesop Rock's albums have a personality/flavor of their own. He's a real breath of fresh air.
Ruby '81 gives me chills every time.
nice aesop knocked this one out the park. one of the few artists that got better with age
Been coming back to this for yearssss. Easily one of my favourite albums
Aesop Rock is truly a real hip hop artist. If you listen to his albums often, you will learn to love the differentiating and innovative instrumentals spread throughout his career, but thats just the first and easiest step.
Aesop, simply put, could bury any rapper alive under bars of realness. He is a living legend.
This whole album is full of visuals. Greatness ensues when morning arises and this is eardrummin your brain.
Im confused. With people like Aesop Rock spitting hot fire, why is it that people like drake, bobby smurda, and 2 chains still have careers?
They appeal to more people.
That Guy i forgot people have no true taste in music anymore.
cosmicmelon Just because they like something different doesn't mean they have no taste, just different taste
That Guy which i don't mind, but when people claim they are the best and no one comes close, that's when i feel like the ego bubble needs to be popped and that they need to be critically reviewed.
Because all the mainstream artist found the Illuminati secrets in Excel.
This album is really good. I like all of his, but I feel like something extra special went into this one.
I have listened to every song, since this album came out atleast four times a day, and I STILL haven't got tired of any of it. Aesop Rock, I effin' love you.
The production on this speaks to me. Some of the best this year, not to mention an epic lyrical display.
this is my favorite album ever produced.
Ruby 81 always makes my eyes tear up even still. Dogs are just fuckin awesome!
Aesop Rock never disappoints me. Another masterpiece...
One of the greatest albums of its genre, holy fuck dude....
rockkiller124 actually its greatest
@@BoozertheArtist what about impossible kid?
I Love Aes his music has so much meaning and almsot every song is an awesome or touching story. Also big props to Rhymesayers for having enough love for their fans to release the whole album into a hour long video.
One of the best outros on a modern album
Insanely good album
Absolutely love this album.
aesop rock has this sound of nostalgia to me. like, i listen to him and i'm 17 again and thinking i'm invincible and the next napoleon bonaparte.
Good haha
It’s been 5 years, you conquer Europe yet?
Thank you Ian Matthias Bavitz!
You sir are a master of words.
I like you.
Such a great album.
Underappreciated. Shared and bought. Doing what I can as a fan. This skill deserves nothing less than an awkward standing ovation.
I'm so glad that this will soon hit 1 mil views.
This is a really good album. first time i listened i liked it . . the more i listen the more i love it.
Aesop Rock stands with the very best of any generation. Hes a master
I've had my head buried in the underground scene for the last14 years, my friend. It's mind-boggling how much great music people have not heard.
agreed
Second 'Agree' from me. So much of the best Hip-Hop goes unheard.
Ruby '81 paints such a mental picture!
he goes in on 1,000 oclock.
"Today a thousand sea lions got up and left a pier
They had successfully invaded and secured for 20 years
Some said it was the food supply or shifting weather patterns
Truthfully a whole community of scientists are baffled"
I remember when that shit happened, people in SF thought the world was ending. lol
labor days was his best consistent album i think, something i listened to without stopping without even noticing
What each song is actually about for those who don't get what he's saying or are too lazy to do some research:
1.Leisureforce - Living the life as a recluse, pretty much staying at home all day with your cat taking a nap or playing videogames.
The song itself it's about a dude riding a motorcycle too fast and crashing and dying, hence the "Gehenna"
4.Zero Dark Thirty - That one goddamn time in life where you grow up and realize your an adult and has to deal with shit by yourself. The song rapid-pace is to resemble how everything changes really fast.
5.Fryestarter - An allusion to the Christian heaven, but actually being about a donut shop at San Francisco, CA owned by Bob. When Aes moved from NY to CA, the shop was one of the most comfortable places for him to hang out cause it hit home and was really "New York-ish"
6.Ruby '81 - The story about a Beagle dog saving a kid from drowning back in July 4th, 1981 during a family pool party.
♡
+god mode Thanks
+god mode You're half right about Cycles to Gehenna. He wrote the song for his friend that died in a motorcycle accident, not just some dude. Hence the line "when you can't take your dead friends names out your phone".
Well for Gopher Guts its a bit more in depth, the three snakes, frogs, etc throughout the song represent his brothers and him self (or all young people). The animals are disliked, disgusting creatures and are taken, told they are amazing then thrown into the real world without any real preparation for it. People only realize the flaw of this after its too late hence the "oh" after each chorus.
Saturn Missiles are the type of firework that can be heard at the end of the track. www.atomicfireworks.net/Saturn_Missiles_200.bmp
I love that even after all these years I still remember the opening nursery rhyme to Crows 1
_Little baby blue eyes eyes turn black_
was just listening (for the third time, background music) and something caught my ear about Ruby '81.
You like King Crimson and Aes; kudos on your tas'. 😉
I also am racist and only listen Caucasoid
@@musaka2022 Can't help that the top rapper's are white dudes. Or maybe it's just that white folks are more relatable to other white folks. Are you a simple person? Either way: what kind of loser says "Caucasoid"?
@@VeniVizzleVici You're Italian, then you shouldn't be offended by Caucasoid.
@@musaka2022 Based and Redpilled. Aesop is a Juden though, just something to keep in mind while listening. Ian Mathias Bavitz. In one of his songs he implies that Jesus’s death was laid at the feet of Pontius Pilot.
Man, i had no idea that gokart track was still operational 11 years ago, im having serious nostalgia currently, i appreciate the heck out of this existing and for its creation (the music and the sick live vid) ❤❤❤
Pretty cool of Rhymesayers to upload the whole album to give people a full preview instead of a ridiculous 30 second snippet from every song.
Shit drives me insane.
Gopher Guts is one of my favorite songs
the more hip hop you listen to the easier it is to understand aes' rhymes, if someone isnt use to a style like this they only glaze over what is being said
Yeah, when I started listening to Aes it was mainly the beats that grabbed me, the words were all flying by and I didn't really understand. It's great how the songs sink in over time and just keep getting better.
I only recently started listening to him more and I agree with you, it's very hard for me to grasp what he says, but then again I'm German.
AES IS MELTING FACES once again, Incredible. Fantastic idea for a album preview as well.
he never quit
this song is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. i miss my childhood so much. i wish i can return to the days where i thought the world was perfect
Or you could do the right thing and help make the world a perfect place again....
ruby '81 fuckin gets me everytime, fuck. goosebumbs all overrr
everyone say "good dog"...
all 3 were great mixes. I loved how he could throw you off guard with the snippets and samples he chose.
Dumb rap is fun, intellectual lyrics are everlasting...
All of ace rocks albums are dope. If you truly enjoy aesops style, each album will grow on you in time. Aesop Rocks.
Still just as amazing 4 months later.
Also ten years later
Also ten years and 4 months later
Welcome to the fold! Aesop has a very impressive catalog to dig into. I think you're going to find some very worthwhile material.
this is the dopest thing ive heard
I listen to this at least 8 times a day, still haven't been able to decipher every bit of Aesop's genius.
