Oh no, I dont think I would judge anyone for having been in a Mental Hospital. You see many, many people have had experience of that. I remember in the early 80s when I had a bit of a 'breakdown' (Only recently found that I am on the Autism Spectrum and the stresses of living as a slightly 'different' sort of person, is what results in my extreme anxiety and depressive states, what I would have given to know that then). So lots of people who seem 'normal' ( whatever that is), to all intents and purposes have had their own brushes with mental hospitals. A nurse told me at the time, that had it been a few decades earlier, I would have been committed for the sin of having a child out of wedlock, so would have been there anyway. So, please do not feel you would be judged for this, people keep stuff like that to themselves but in comments threads like this, their true feelings come out. I hope you are keeping well and safe xx

You are not alone. Don't be embarrassed, I was in and out of hospitals from the late 80s and through the mid-90s. I suffer from PTSD and my main diagnosis was MPD. Also I was in rehab by the age of 19. My most recent hospitalization was in 2020. There have been many changes in the care that you receive while hospitalized. This makes me sad because a lot of folks aren't getting the help they need. Don't let your illness be a stigma. It's not, as long as you maintain you're good to go. If you feel yourself slipping up then you be responsible and do something about it. But don't feel any shame. Stay strong be well and know you are loved

People always complain about millennials but they are paving the way for acceptance of mental health issues and making taking care of mental health as normal as taking care of a broken leg. I love watching old shows and especially documentaries. Not only the content is better but being able to 'see' and to a limited extent, experience life in a different era is awesome. Just seeing a 'bookstore', an office cubicle with no computer, and not one soul on a cell phone just going about their day is so simple and calming. Life HAD to have been more peaceful in earlier times........ The music doesn't bother me at all. Harry is darling btw. I love his furrowed, wrinkled brow. He seems lovely and tortured at same time.

I had a friend who was Schiz and Bi-polar. She would call me at all hours scared to death at things she was seeing in her living room. Strangers wanting pizza, dark shadow people, little rowdy kids, and at times monsters....all tormented her often. I told her to tell them straight out..."In the name of Jesus...I rebuke you, be gone." Things went on for years, she went back and forth and her life was shattered. She (in her mind) thought she was "gifted" to be able to see and talk to these things, and even call some by name....even though they were strangers. She said some had told her their names. She and I got along fairly well, but there were times I would just walk away and leave her ranting. She is gone now and I hope she was able to finally find peace.

He was a state psychologist for decades and discovered the roots of schizophrenia and the cure.

If you can see and hear voices and/or spirits, you are NOT alone or CRAZY ! Unless you dose on meth regularly, or had a serious head injury in the past. You are like me a person with a third eye/ear capability. We represent only about 10% of humanity. I myself was paranoid for sometime. But I did my own research. BTW, I am an Engineer with a highly analytical mind. Once I knew the REAL reason -Spirits- I was set FREE ! I even turned the tables on the evil spirits. I TORMENTED them with Worship Songs, Quoted Holy Scripture to them. Even called them names and mocked them. It drove them away. They'd come back a few days later but I gave them the SAME treatment. Eventually they gave up. I've been meds free for the last 16 years now. The spirits no longer bother me, because I'm NO LONGER FUN to torment. The spirits prefer fearful & confused victims.
Our physical and spirit worlds exists in parallel dimensions, separated by force fields. The spirits can see/hear us, we can't see/hear them NORMALLY. Anything that seriously WEAKENS our body, EMBITTERS our soul, and affects our FAITH in God, also WEAKENS our protective spiritual AURA and allows the evil spirits to communicate with us. Spirits communicate by MENTAL TELEPATHY - mind to mind - that's why ONLY you can see or hear them. That's why the spirits can READ YOUR MIND/THOUGHTS ! You can also secretly TALK/SHOUT to them by TELEPATHY - in the presence of other people. No one will notice and think you're CRAZY !
Spirits can also DISTORT human speech. For example if your friend says " Hello, What's Up ? " it will sound like " You're UGLY & STUPID ! " and so you'll get ANGRY. That's how spirits make you PARANOID & anti-social. The speech distortion happens only a few SECONDS ! The speakers face suddenly changes to an UGLY facial expression ! The Spirits TRUE FACE shows !! Then the face reverts back to normal and the speaker is NOT even aware of what happened. He'll wonder why you're angry at him ! Ive seen this many times !!
The evil spirits want to isolate you socially. You're their TOY ! Spirits can also SHAPE SHIFT - appear in ANY form (animal or people). They can IMITATE other peoples LOOKS/VOICES and pretend like real people. Spirits can also produce SOUNDS like knocking on doors, footsteps, crying or screaming people, scratching on walls, police sirens, barking dogs etc. Their plan is to ISOLATE you socially .. for themselves. Make people think you're CRAZY .. even if you re NOT. Resist them, Don't give up .. or you're really gonna end up crazy. Remember this, its NOT you but THEM (spirits) that's causing this. Fight them. Talk/Shout to them by Telepathy even in the presence of other people, so no one can hear what you're saying.. except the spirit. .

@@cw9007 Read Jeffrey Seinfeld, Guntrip, and R.D. Laing. Expert psychoanalysts who made their careers working with schizoids, schizotypals, and schizophrenics. As someone who is schizoid myself and has had multiple episodes of psychosis, my ego is split, keep in mind, it is the ego, not the person's identity or personality. The ego helps us mediate and regulate between our impulses and our morals.. it also helps us to regulate our emotions in the real world. The schizophrenic person lacks a robust ego. One part weakly interacts with the world and the other lives in unconscious fantasy. This is why schizophrenics tend to be more spiritually gifted than others and more intuitive than others, they have greater access to unconscious processes that others are not familiar with.
A short explanation of how the ego is split... Between ages 0-18 months and by extension ages 0-5. The schizophrenic did not get enough love from their parent which would validate their reality, their existence. Rather than project hate towards their rejecting love object, as the borderline or narcissist does, they split off their ego, likely an involuntary unconscious defensive reaction rather than a purposeful one. One ego, lies in reality, the other was created as a way to maintain a fantasy relationship with their desired object.
When the schizophrenic is stressed or their reality breaks down and they go into psychosis, and enter the realm of fantasy for protection. Even if that fantasy is dark and scary, better that then decompensation in the real world.
Alot of this info comes from the three authors I listed above and my personal subjective schizoid experience.
Additionally, there is absolutely a biological component but it is not all biological. There is alot of evidence that the schizophrenic lacked nurturing from ages 0-5. My info also comes out of object relations theory.
By the way, the narrator of this video, if they are a therapist or psychologist, would have understood everything I had said, they would have been familiar with the psychoanalytic literature at the time, especially R.D. Laing.

Being completely alone and friendless. Amazing that lady had an employer that was understanding and willing to help her.. I feel bad for the elderly gentleman. He wouldn't be with us in 2019 but I hope he found some comfort and companionship in his time here.

The lady with the bowl cut was very lucky in that she had a boss and employer who understood her issues and allowed her to work hours and times which suited her. They were very progressive and people who do things like this really are unsung heroes. Sometimes you just need support and allowances to be made for your frailties but unfortunately these are not things which are encouraged or promoted / taught generally in society.

If you can see and hear voices and/or spirits, you are NOT alone or CRAZY ! Unless you dose on meth regularly, or had a serious head injury in the past. You are like me, a person with a third eye/ear capability.
That's why the spirits can READ YOUR MIND/THOUGHTS too !
Fight them. Talk/Shout to them by Telepathy even in the presence of other people, so no one can hear what you're saying.. except the spirit. .

Just came across these docs and they are fascinating and insightful. As a nurse it’s saddens me that MH treatment almost seems to have gone backwards. Getting rid of long term hospitals for these people was a mistake IMO. Like the gal said….it was a place for her to go when she felt extremely overwhelmed…..a place where she could go where she felt safe enough to stop controlling her inner self as much as she has to in every day life out in the world…a respite. And now, outpatient MH treatment and medicinal treatment can be a pipe dream for many because they don’t have health care insurance which results in them having little to no access to treatment And consequently, many turn to substance abuse to cope or they end up going thru the revolving door of the criminal system. It’s heartbreaking to me. Why after all these years have we seemed to get worse and not better……😢

Keep in mind the music isn’t intentionally distorted - if you listen carefully, you can hear that continuous sounds in the real-life environments are also distorted. That's why the spirits can READ YOUR MIND/THOUGHTS too !
Fight them. Talk/Shout to them by Telepathy even in the presence of other people, so no one can hear what you're saying.. except the spirit. .

Full of Sound and Fury: Living with Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia, one of the most common major mental illnesses, shatters persons. This sympathetic film presents the experiences of three sufferers of the debilitating disease. Tzvie, 50-years-old, articulately describes the anguish and loneliness of his marginal existence and his craving for a useful life. Sandy, able to maintain a part-time job, speaks of her daily struggle with delusions, fear, and isolation. Judy, the mother of a brilliant young schizophrenic, recounts the mental torment that drove her son to suicide. Although new drugs offer imperfect help, schizophrenics, with their pain and vulnerabliity, remain largely hostages to our compassion.

I have schizoaffective disorder. This film is amazingly hopeless and pessimistic. Things have changed in the way the media presents serious and persistent mental illness. Now its much more fashionable to show the story of recovery and overcoming. I kind of appreciate this film’s darkness because living with a schizophrenia spectrum illness is not a fairytale.

My best friend while growing up developed Schizophrenia. He started drinking heavily and died in the late 90s
Also have a friend whose brother had Schizophrenia. His brother died in a hospital.
Spent his last few days searching for and drinking hand sanitizer.
    Brutal disease.

The bendy wow and flutter from the tape soundtrack must be separate than the vocal sound track . I’m guessing this was filmed circa 1983 or 85

What you observe heals you, what you control/hide condemns you to more of the same. Perhaps this is the purpose of psychiatry. We can all listen without judgement, and in a small way we can contribute to helping those suffering silently around us? A little empathy is all humanity needs!

These people live about 10 to 15 years less than others. I'm not a physician, but the damage done to the body's organs by the medicines is significant. They also smoke. ( a lot )

You would be correct. Don't think for a second that any of the shit we ingest in 2019 will increase life expectancy. Especially Medications for the real Mentally Ill. Combinations of Prescription Drugs is the main killer. I've heard about the old Mental Hospitals would give the patients several pills to counter the effect of certain pills while to make the patient quite and calm. You already know the after effects of these medications

Thank you for sharing!!. I also started hearing the voices, along with the shadows. I started thinking about my life and memories brought me to the conclusion that I have always heard voices but never paid attention to where they was coming from. I am 31 and noticed the voices big time now. The voices ont feel fake, they even tell me it's nanotechnology and the people. For me it even feels that the whole world is in on this conspiracy that I like to believe schitsofrenia is made up. The voices tell me I'm targeted because I'm perverted and what not. My thoughts are read before I even noticed them. I search nanotechnology and it's a technology that can manipulate your mind and manipulate your feelings. Something positive I can leave you with is, find a way to love music, wear headphones! A good pair. Watch good movies that fill your heart up with happiness and tranquility. . Prepare yourself for one day your love of your life is no longer in your life. Save money for the rainy days. Love you !!

So... apparently that "unsettling" wobbling in the music has a name. It's called, the 'wow and flutter' effect, and it happens because of imperfections in the tape or turntable (vinyl): the live played music got recorded and "glued" onto non-straight platforms creating wavy music. This is the best way I could understand this chilling music, anyway. Thankfully, technology has drastically changed since!
