    No it’s because the company that took on the name of six flags was in 2 billion dollars worth of debt

    Nope, that place was always locked down. At least the 21 years we had seasons tickets. Look up
    Kieran Burke. He was President of the board of directors of six flags and convinced the shareholders the property was worth 150 million dollars. It wasn’t worth half of that. He resigned/was asked to leave. That’s your reason

    I have a hard time believing it had to do with gang activity. Why would they tear down this historic and popular theme park because of gang violence? Im sure theres more to this story that they havnt told people. All I know is I miss astroworld so much :(

    • @seanlewis1148
      @seanlewis1148 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      grotesquegod91 Btw....look up a channel by RampagingRex in a two part series called: Astroworld, A Cyclone of Thrills to get more insight....VERY INTRIGUING!!!!

    • @seanlewis1148
      @seanlewis1148 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      grotesquegod91 Yeah, there was a gang problem, but not on a level that folks would want you to believe.
      The REAL problem was greed, which caused Astroworld to be demolished.
      The Houston Texans were the new kids on the block at the time, and they wanted a new stadium built for the new franchise instead of playing in an old run down venue like the Astrodome.....a fresh new look for a fresh new team if you will.
      So, to meet this demand the city of Houston had a new stadium built, Reliant Stadium(now NRG Stadium), which would not only host the many games that went on there, but also other events, like concerts, conventions, and the most prominent event next to the football games themselves, The Houston Live Stock Rodeo.
      So with all the events taking place in the newly built stadium, while the Astrodome stood empty and left to rot, since both Venues shared a parking lot, it was literally a traffic nightmare between those attending Astroworld and those attending the events that went on in the stadium, which prompted former Six Flags President and Premier Parks CEO KIERAN BURKE to demolish Astroworld, in order to fatten his pockets behind the land in which the park stood on being extremely valuable, with the newly built stadium SUPPOSEDLY rising the property value to the tune of $150M. And Burke thought he would hit jackpot for that amount in order to help Six Flags climb out of a $2.1B debt, BUT, ended up receiving only $77M..... $20M from that amount to level Astroworld!!!!
      So in the end, Burke only received$57M after it was all said and done.
      Six Flags fired his worthless ASS!!!!
      sorry for the long drawn out paragraph
      RIP Astroworld

      I said the same thing. Gangs had nothing to do with this. Houston has always had high crime, so why would it take "gangs" to move into the city, "whole gangs" began moving into Houston and came straight for Astroworld to destroy it lol? Nice if you could blame it on someone though right 🤷🏾‍♀️

    Gi Arlington! !!

  • @stevenvasconcellos5799
    @stevenvasconcellos5799 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Four reasons, The attendance was on the decline, parking issues with the NRG Stadium, the land value, and Six Flags crippled by debt. The CEO at the time assessed the land would sell for 150 million, is SOLD FOR A MEASLY 70 MILLION. In fact the CEO at the time Burke was fired partly over the closing of Astroworld. Six Flags lost money over it's closing. Houston lost it's only theme park. Nothing good came out of it's closing. It should have remained open!

      If Six Flags was trying to get out of debt, they should have sold AstroWorld to CNL Income just like they did with Darien Lake and Elitch Gardens. More money from a 3-park sale, less to spend on management as a result (enabling more money for debt payments), and Houston residents get to keep their beloved home park. Win-win.

      crime in that area was getting pretty bad not to mention the low season pass prices made the crime get inside the gates. it was pretty bad.

      Astrodome could be repurposed as a giant parking lot for Astroworld. Increased security could have helped with local crime. The fact of the matter is a bunch of rich dudes got greedy and took away a Houston staple and landmark because they could.

      Eric Matthews just an empty lot. Every March it is used for parking space for the Houston rodeo.

  • @Billyagave
    @Billyagave 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Actually because Reliant stadium was built and there was no parking space for football games, rodeo , etc etc etc and there was no parking spots therefore astroworld had to be closed.

      Nathan Rocha So it wasn't because of the gang problem?

    • @Eric345
      @Eric345 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sean Lewis No. The CEO of Six Flags wanted to sell the land it was sitting on because it was valuable. They believe they’ll receive $150M for it. But once they sold it they only received $77M for it. They ended up losing money. The CEO was fired because of this decision.
